Gaia fails at taking economy classes, I think. Discuss this new piece of work.

Hello, Gaians!

We're delighted to report that Marketplace 3.0 is coming along very nicely, and we're gearing up for a launch sometime soon!

Before you use the new Marketplace, be aware of this major change: There is now a 2% listing fee for all items in the Marketplace. This means that if your item is sold, Gaia will take a 2% cut of the selling price. This will help stabilize the Gaia economy by controlling inflation and preventing abuse of the Marketplace. However, this means that we no longer have to require vending licenses, so everyone who has previously bought one will have their 1000 Gaia Gold refunded.

My point is, obviously, wouldn't charging a 2% tax (that's what it is, basically) really make inflation worse though?

Because, hell, if I were a seller in the marketplace, I'd just up my price by 2%. That's what people on ebay do. Ebay takes part of their profits, so sellers integrate that percent of fees into their prices. And if everyone ups their price to accommodate for the tax, then items keep getting more and more expensive. Also, if people are willing to PAY those higher prices ... eventually the item just gets more and more expensive.

I wonder. Do they realize this or is there something I'm missing?
