This is the official Discussion thread for Chrono Trigger, you can discuss the characters the story, how much you hate it, how much you love it, how much you want them to add it on the Wii's virtual console, techs and dual techs, favorite team setups, the battle system, the 32 bit graphics(highest graphic rating for any snes game), the many different endings to the game (like 6 I think), your favorite time period, Wether Chrono should remain frozen in time or not, or basically anything about Chrono Trigger...I don't know how many people are in this guild, but if they haven't played Chrono Trigger, then it would be hard to classify them as a hard core RPG gamer.
Also, I haven't seen a single post in 2 days, other than my own and you response. I am a little concerned that I am wasting my time here.

I guess I could start the discussion with the obvious, Who is you favorite character and why?
Magus is number one in my book, he has to be the coolest black mage ever to exist. He originated in the dark ages under the name Janus. He was a member of the royal family of the magic kingdom. When Lavos was awakened by queen Leene, Janus was sucked into one of the many time gates that spawned from the overwhelming power of Lavos. He was transported to the year 600ad where he reigns as the only magic user and is worshipped by many people in the world. He is the only character in the game who can utilize every magical element including his own specialty, Shadow Magic. While he cannot learn the most powerful attack for each individual element, his Dark Matter spell is the strongest in the game. Also, he is one of the most complicated parts of the story line as he travels from being your enemy to one of your most powerful allies.

Corporate_Jerk Also, I haven't seen a single post in 2 days, other than my own and you response. I am a little concerned that I am wasting my time here. I was out recruiting for a reason. This place DESPERATELY needs some more activity and people in it. At any rate, Magus is awesome, true, and for years, he was my favorite, as well. But recently (past year or two), my favorite character has become, believe it or not, Marle. Yes, yes, I know she's incessantly cheerful and not terribly bright. But there's something about her simple, yet completely indomitable faith and devotion that sets her apart, to me. She has ideals, she sticks with them no matter what, and she'll immediately put herself up against any foe, no matter how dangerous, just because it's the right thing to do. She doesn't worry about the consequences to her own well-being, she just DOES it. She's a constant beacon of hope and encouragement to her entire team, never giving up and never accepting something that's wrong as unchangeable fate (Lavos's destruction of the world, Crono's death, etc). Is she smart in this? No. Are her iron-clad beliefs and hopes realistic? No. But that, to me, is what sets her apart from most other characters in RPGs, even the ones who share the "hopeful encourager" character type. Her faith, confidence, and dedication are not merely strong, they are pure. They're unhindered, unchanged, un tainted by unpleasant experience and reasonable expectations. In being so intractably naive and unbending, she becomes as pure a pillar of faith, confidence, and morality as any character you can find. And so, she has become my favorite--because as great as the rest of the cast is, their personalities' worths just don't really compare to hers.

LoL, really...Marle. I will rank the playables by there combat ability now:
1.Magus-shadow 2.Chrono-lightning 3.robo-none (machines can't use magic) 4.Frog-Water 5.Ayla-none (she is from the year 65000BC, before magic existed) 6.Marle-Ice 7.Lucca-Fire
My favorite Dual Tech is Spire (Chrono and Frog) and my favorite Single tech is Shock (Robo) and best of all is the triple tech Omega Flare (Magus w/ blue rock equipped, Lucca, and Robo).

Frog was my favorite for a long time, but some time ago Robo booted Frog out of that spot when he got trashed by his six brothers, rebels against the Mother Brain, and spends 400 years regrowing a forest with Fiona... (That sidequest always tears me up, when they reunite in the new 1000 AD.)
...I'm going to have to replay Chrono Trigger sometime soon, because the plot's just one huge blur in my memories, and that's just shameful. (And all the alternative endings probably didn't help either. XD)

XD Lol, I got the rom sometime ago. I was so happy I nearly peed myself. I had already beaten like 5 times on snes but I still loved every minute. Needless to say the plot is crystal clear in my mind. I like the fiona side quest also...That boss is nothing to sneeze at either. BTW, It is great seeing someone other than me and Ess Tii in here. Maybe I didn't waste my time making this thread after all.

Patience, Corporate. An active guild is not made instantly. Creating the bases for discussions that will occur as people check in now and then is the first step, but we can't expect too much all at once.
And yeah, Robo is a really under-appreciated paragon of personal sacrifice for the sake of human love and friendship, concepts that he, as a robot, doesn't even necessarily HAVE to feel or support. He really gives his everything for others.

*still wandering around* Robo was an instant favorite of mine from the moment I first met him in the game. I think the one thing that really struck me about him was his theme music - it's probably my favorite piece in the game and I think it alone says volumes about his character and role. heart
Lucca's my absolute favorite character, however (and possibly my favorite female character out of all the games I've played), and that just means I'm even more touched by their relationship and all. That Fiona sidequest is practically burned into my mind. I still quake after completing it to this day.
CT just executes every aspect of its characters and plot with such a subtle and powerful simplicity. It's a real masterpiece, especially when paired with its rock-solid gameplay. 3nodding

For the longest time Ayla was my favorite character. For a group of people who almost all have magic (even Spekkio comments that Robo's lasers are shadow-based) it was refreshing to have someone running around bashing stuff with her fists.
Now though, Lucca is my favorite. When around the group she gives off this "Mad Genius" persona and shows off a lot of self-confidence, but, during the times with Robo, you see that caring, lonely, side, treating Robo as a person instead of a machine. I can't recall much, it's been a long time since the last time I played but it seems that she was more broken up over what happens to Robo than she did when Crono, her best friend, dies by Lavos.

Amen to that. X3 I freakin' LOVE watching Ayla smack things. She's certainly an asset during the Blackbird minidungeon! And... well... just about the entire rest of the game when you can use her. XD;

XD; I think Ayla's the reason I love Hawkgirl so much from the JL cartoons, her answer to every little problem in life is to bash it with a mace. And nine times out of ten it works. mrgreen I have no idea why, but for some reason that is the only place that I'll have Lucca Marle and Ayla running around in. It's like, that's their special little girls only adventure, using girl power to escape from Dalton and then be confronted by Magus. rolleyes

Lol, no love for Chrono. He wasn't the most personable spikey haired hero Square ever dished out I guess. I do feel that he only exist in relation to the other characters. I mean, after he gets frozen in time, you don't even have to go to Death Mountian to revive him...however, from a gameplay perspective he is still probably the overall strongest character.
