We do armed and unarmed. Everyone is welcome to join the team, but when we go to competitions, we bring the minimum required for the event, so you have to try out. Less people=less chance of a screw up. The people who go are the people who were the top for the "knock-out" competition. A knock-out competition is when everyone stands in one rank, and the instructor calls a command. If you don't execute it perfectly, you're knocked out. We do both rifle anf unarmed, because one person may be better at one way of drill than another.Last 6 standing are our squads, and last 18 is our platoon. I've never missed a competition. ^^

Yup, our 1st Sergeant was a drill instructor at Parris Island....

and we do have teams, plural, too

every ROTC unit does I believe

freshmen squad unarmed
freshmen squad armed
freshmen platoon unarmed
freshmen platoon armed
squad armed
squad unarmed
platoon armed
platoon unarmed
individual armed
individual unarmed
exhibition armed
exhibition unarmed
color guard
freshmen color guard

those are the subcategories of drill and color guard teams

We also have a PT team, rifle team, academic team, and orienteering...with their own subcategories, of course. wink

You go to competitions that differentiate between male and female colorguards?
Our categories are varsity and freshmen, and we just put whoever's best on them, male or female.

All our school has is Unarmed Basic, Armed Basic, and Color Guard. We don't have any trick drill teams, which would have been cool. Last year, we tried to get a Sabre Team but the principal wouldn't let us. We separate our drill teams into an A team (for competitions) and a B team (in case an A team cadet can't make it) if we have enough people. Everyone is welcomed to join. At competitions (and someone mentioned this before), we have this "knock-out" competition. Even we don't have enogh people on the team (which is my situation), we can still participate. I was the fourth to last person knocked out once.
