Professor Alan Agro Dei
Care of Magical Creatures

A centaur without a herd

Is no centaur at all

I am not without a herd

I've simply traded one for another

User Image[They've always called me]
Alan Agro Dei

[The young one's address me as]
Professor or Professor Dei

[I've seen many winters]
Twenty Eight

[My Herd]
Austria's Institute for Fine Young Wizards
He of course, never attended the school but his loyalties lie with them

[I was born a]
Stallion

[I am no wizard]
Centaur is the only blood in my veins

[I will shape my own future]
As a centaur Alan possesses a certain elegance and grace, not to mention a good deal of pride. He's not as bad as his fellows though, mind you, his time spend among the witches and wizards, the kindness he had manged to observe in some humans had tamed him a bit. Though you shouldn't let him hear you say that, comments about taming a centaur would usually get you on their bas side unless you were very close. While Alan is not as fanatical as some of his counterparts he will not be compared to a common horse, nor will he stand to play some kind of servant to humans. As far as he [and many other centaurs] are concerned, his kind is just as intelligent, if not more, than the humans and are nothing if not equals.

Beneath the pride and grace though, Alan is a generally sweet creature with a rather up beat disposition. He has the ability to be witty though at times his humor is a bit... above his auddiance and the humor in some jokes is lost on his refined nature. Despite the fact that Alan grew up in the forest he is refined and classy, but also skilled in the hunt. Mildly bookish the man craves nothing more than knowledge but will almost never be found in the library, the indoors weren't made to acomadate him and he has always preferred the fresh air anyway.

[The stars have already molded my past]
Alan Agro Dei is a centaur. That fact, in and of itself, declares that his past was something not shared by most witches or wizards, and yet the fact that he now works so closely with humans suggests that his history was not common to a centaur eather.

When Alan was just a foal, young and naive, he was taken out on a hunt with the herd. He was foolish and fell behind, getting lost in the large Austrian forest. Needless to say, a young centaur is not safe in the forest alone, especially not one who has wandered into the path of a hungry forest troll. Even then Alan was well aware that Trolls ate raw flesh and they didn't much care what creature it came from.

He'd done his best to run, not watching where exactly he was going as he darted around trees and leaped over fallen logs, injuring his right front ankle along the way. It wasn't until he found himself breaking though the forest edge that he realised he was lost. He'd never been outside the forest at that point, no older than fourteen at the time. It didn't mater where he was though because the troll was thundering after it's meal and Alan had no more obsticals to slow him down. For a long moment Alan had thought for certain he was a done for, even as he hid himself behind the shed in the open area. He knew the troll would sniff him out, he could hear it grunting to itself... and that's when he heard it.

Latin

He can no longer remember the spell but he remembers it being cast, he remembers the jet of bright light that took his predoator down, but no doubt he'd only exchanged one danger for another. After all, humans weren't to be trusted, he'd been told so over and over again.

Alan opted to keep silent at the time, certain the wizard had not seen him and was only working to be rid of the troll on his grounds, unfortunetly, he was quickly proved wrong.

"You can come out now little one."

He remembers the voice still. So calm and kind, as he limped out from behind the fountain, eyes burning with a certain defiance. He didn't trust the wizard, not one bit, but he had refused to show fear. The wizard, who turned out to be the Head Master of Austria's Institute for Fine Young Wizards, had only laughed at him. At first Alan had been offended but long story short, the wizard healed his ankle and sent him on his way. Before he left though, he was asked to kindly to visit alone next time or give some warning before bringing along any troll friends.

Needless to say, Alan had been in shock, but honor bound as he was he did the only thing he knew to do; he thanked the wizard and said simply that he was in his debt. It was only then that he sprinted back off into the forest to find his heard once more.

It was another six years before he saw that wizard again, when two children had gotten themselves lost in the dangers of the forest Alan was quick to return the young children to the school after defending them from an Erkling [which are only particularly dangerous to children]. He was about twenty at this point and yet that same wizard still referred to him as little one, as he had those six years ago. The centaur found this man odd but paid little mind as he returned the children to him and left without a word except to explain that he was repaying his debt. It was then that problems arose between himself and his herd. His association with the human had cost him dearly, tempers flares and many differences between himself and his herd came to light causing them a strained relationship. It wasn't long before things grew worse and it wasn't long before things got out of hand. Violence and arguments were frequent and expected in his presence amongst the other males.

It was only a few months later that the final brick was layed and the stars decided his future. The Head Master of the school on the outskirts of the forest came searching him out. He asked Alan for his help, claiming the school was in desperate need of someone with his knowledge and that the students could do with the experience someone like him could lend. It was an attempt to bridge the gap, they both knew, the wizard had made the first step by saving him and Alan had continued it by saving the children. Alan could see that this man was educated, better than most and not seeing the centaurs as simple beasts that could be broken or tamed. The young Centaur wished to help, to inform the young witches and wizards, maybe be rid of some of the ignorance, educate them and in doing so form a sort of alliance, perhaps good faith and show his herd that not all humans were untrustworthy.

Unfortunetly, the mear mention of it had been the final straw for his heard. He was exiled and run out. The creature was left alone, without a herd and it was then that he really had no choice. The school took him in and he took up the role of teacher for Divination at first but was quickly moved to Care of Magical Creatures when the idea was mentioned. Who better to teach the children of magical creatures than a magical creature?

Professor Dei has been with the school ever since, eight long years of students and classes and being away from his herd. He made a new herd though, within the staff of the school. It was smaller, only a select few he called friends, but it was a herd never the less. Now, the school has closed down and he was very glad when some of the teachers were accepted along with the students. After all the centaur had no where to go. He wasn't fond of starting all over once again, never having been too fond of change, but he could adapt. He will adjust, unique centaur that he is.

[My magic is something else]
Centaurs don't use wands or anything of the sort, rather their magic lays in the skill of divination that their race possesses and other forms of wandless magic, such as potions and the like.

[I seek to instill knowledge]
By teaching Care of Magical Creatures

[There are some things that cannot be forsaken]
+His teaching position
+The outdoors
+Knowledge
+Clear nights

[And others I'd rather be without]
-The loss of his herd
-Spending too much time indoors
-The lack of respect some wizards show
-Ignorance

[A most valued part of the herd]
Alan is not so primitive as to keep pets, though he did take care of many of the creatures from the surrounding forest at Austria's Institute for Fine Young Wizards. It was with his gentle care and respect that they allowed themselves to be observed by the students. Of course, those creatures stayed behind in Austria and Alan has much work to do in order to gain such trust in a forign wood.

[I do not wish to overwhelm you]
Anything else
