How in Erebus did we get the idea that children are the beacon of innocence? Because unless they were sheltered until a certain age (like yours truly was, but even then), they are definitely guilty of knowing "a thing or two."

I recently worked with kids in a summer camp, as a counselor. Some of the things I saw and heard from their mouths were definitely not something a romantic would think of when he/she thinks of children.

Kids can be the most selfish, disrespectful, ungrateful little critters you've ever seen. They will hurt each other, lie, and throw fits to get their way. One child refused to listen to my directions because I was "only a volunteer" (the other counselors there were volunteers too, punk).

Most times, they're "nice" and "polite" just to serve themselves in one way or another, whether they fear the punishment from authority or they know that politeness is rewarded.

Censoring the television and other media won't work: they'll just learn foul things from their friends and/or peers. Have folks never read Lord of the Flies?

What might work is a little something called parental intervention. Apparently, and unfortunately, this seems to be an entirely new concept among some folks. Blaming the media is not going to help squat. What parents need to do is take control of their kids' behaviour. If they bend like ******** daisies in the wind to their child's demands, then that kid is going to be one hell of a harbinger to not only the parents, but the teachers and babysitters and anyone who interacts with the brat.

For some strange reason, some parents just totally shift the blame from themselves to other people (e.g. Marylin Manson, video games, movies, Hilton, etc.). But why would a loving parent be so damned inept? If it's one thing that really irritates me is irresponsibility, and those kinds of parents are at the top of my list. The parents should be teaching their kids fiction from reality; wrong from right. Unfortunately, some just let others, be it peers, media, etc. teach their children for them.

Kids need structure for a reason: if they didn't have it, the place would be a goddamned mess. Parents need to provide that structure and education.

There's supposed to be a show on Fox where "kids rule". I'm guessing it'll do one of two things:
1) Prove that children are the beacon of innocence, or
2) Prove that children really are evil critters as depicted in Lord of the Flies.
I'm really rootin' for the latter. So don't let me down, Fox.

Oh, apparently, it's not Fox, but CBS. You'd think it'd be Fox, though, the "pioneer" of reality television.

I suspect I might become a serial killer at some point just because of how disgusting, filthy, obnoxious, and putrid those little worthless creatures are.
