wellll...i've wondered about her too...but she hasn't been mentioned that much; i'm assuming that she's gonna have little prominent role in the series...

Most likey she's one of The Fire lord's coqubines(sp?) that he just choosed to have his son.
Plus the fire nation is based on Chine which it was common for the emperor to have countless wives and mistesses (and sometimes boyfriends)

There are four air temples: North, South, East and West.
The North and South are exclusively male.
East and West do have female airbenders.
