It has come to my attention that some characters are a bit Sue/Stu-ish.
A horrible, not very dangerous, but quite bo-ring type of character.

A MarySue (or GaryStu, if it's a guy) is a RP character modeled after the desired hopes and dreams of the player. They're basically perfect, but unoriginal.

Yes, it's a bad thing.
But not deadly, you can put your pitchforks and torches down.

If you still don'thave a clue on what a MS/GS is, I'll give you a little example:


Name: Katie Smith
Age:16
Year:7th
House: Gryffindor
Parents: Pure
Appearance:Katie has long blonde hair and blue eyes. Lots of guys think she is very pretty. She is average weight for girls her age.
Personality: Caring, Sweet, Always thereto lend a helping hand, never angry, loves teachers and is very smart. The only thing she doesn't like is situation where people get mad at her. She is loved by her parents and they give her anythign she wants because she's a little angel.
Quidditch: Yes: she is very athletic and can play any position.
Background: Katie grew up in a normal household. Her parents have lots of money. She is an only child. At Hogwarts, she skipped a grade because they thought she was so smart.
Other: She is an Animagus. Her form is a dove.

Problems:
1. Unoriginal Names- try to put some meaning into yourcharacter from the first moment you create them.
2. "Perfect" Appearance- creating your character isn't always just about looks. If you label you're character as "Pretty," well, that is just vain... and someone is going to come around and say they aren't because they have a different view of "Pretty". Unless of course your character is a Metamorphmagi.. which are VERY RARE.
3. "Perfect" Personality- Where's the problem? Unless your character is an alien, they will have a problem as all humans do.
4. Bleh Bio- Making your character automatically rich is unideal. At least have somebackground to that... And as far as I know... A student has never skipped a grade at Hogwarts. Put some flair in your bio- make people want to read it! Start of with how the parents met, any trouble they had, where they live, etc.
5. The Animagi Thing- This, indeed is a very touchy subject. Last time I checked, Animagi training takes years... any student who is an animagi would have to start anywhere from the age of 2-9... not likely.

And don't think this MS/GS thing doesn't apply to "I'm an orphan. I hate the world. Don't talk to me," also. Because it does.

We're not the Baudelaire orphans, people!
Keep that in mind, too.
Here's another lovely little example!


Name: Jack Taylor
Age:15
Year:5th
House:Slytherin
Parents:Pure
Appearance: In the Muggle world, he would be labeled as 'emo'. Jackhas long black hair that covers his eyes. His clothes are always messy and untucked. He usually wears black.
Personality:Jack is very quiet. He doesn't like to speak to anyone for fear of getting hurt. If you get him really mad, he'll beat you up.
Quidditch:no.
Background:He was abandoned when he was 7, he lived long enough with his parents to know that they were Magic. He lived on the streets for 2 yearsbefore the Muggle police put him in a orphanage. He says he has no family, and no one wants to adopt him because he's got a terrible disease that might be cancer.
Other:HE HAS NO FRIENDS.

(reece edit smile Please try to remeber that this is set in England. Try to refrain from giving your characters Japanese/Chinese/asian names just for the hell of it without explaining anything in your bio.

So if you need anymore explination, just ask.
