In America, committing suicide or attempting to commit suicide is no longer a crime. However, helping another person commit suicide is. The One and only exception is the state of Oregon which, since 1997, has allowed people who are terminally ill and in intractable pain to obtain a lethal prescription from their doctors and physician to end their prolonged suffering. It is also done on persons in a Persistent Vegetative State This is called "Physician Assisted Suicide" or PAS. So my question become why is there not more rally in support of PAS. If these people do feel like suicide is there best bet. many states are trying to pass PAS and are failing. There have been four failed ballot initiatives between 1991 and 2000
1991: Washington state: defeated narrowly 54% to 46%
1992: California: Defeated narrowly 54% to 46%
1998: Michigan: Defeated overwhelmingly 71% to 29%
2000: Maine: Defeated very narrowly 51% to 49%.
Between 1994 and 2006, there were 75 legislative bills to legalize PAS in 21 states. All failed
Also how do you think the god will interpret Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia Many people have said only god gives live so only god can take it away, and there are passages in the bible Both Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17 appear in the King James Version of the Bible as "Thou shalt not kill." Meaning that we should not murder another human being, except in cases of self defense or war. but dose it include suicide. Many Christians are divided over if it does or not. Religious conservatives say that it does not, while many liberals believe that there are circumstances where suicide is morally justifiable.

Hm...this is definitly a heated topic.

I don't know how God would see any of it. I've never been a good judge of what God would do or judge or say. It's never been my cup of tea, really. It feels too...presumtious.

But I can say how I feel about it. I think that assisted suicide should be legal, but only in cases of severe illness. I mean, if you know that you're going to die anyway, isn't better to do so with dignity? To meet death on your own terms? Especially in this age when we're extending life and death to a previously unheard-of extent, sometimes you just want to end it the way you want to end it.

Part of a doctor's job is to be a bearer of mercy, after all...

If attempting suicide is not a crime why have i been arrested twice for it???

I am for assisted suicide BTW if the person is ill -even if it is not at the terminal stage but they are in horrible pain that can't be stopped any other way. I just think that maybe family permissin could be a possible requirement , or suggestion in getting it aproved...maybe..that would suck for some people though. Also they must make sure the person is either of "sound mind" or so completly out of it they don't know the difference. Of course vegetables are candidates as well..but i guess they already do that

Well, you have to realize. We put them into the plug. I'm not Christian, but since this guild really is... It reminds me of a South Park episode where Kenny was in a PVS. Everybody protested when they were going to pull the plug, saying the doctors could not "play God". Angels heard this, and were shocked, because the people had played God in the first place by putting him on life support.

Well, what I mean is...say that the patient is an older person dying of an internal disease who no longer has the strength to, say, slit their wrists or even take pills by themselves. If they know that they are going to die in a month, but that they will shrivel away into unrecognizable husks before that, isn't it better to let them die a few weeks earlier and spare them from that kind of struggle?

Hm...I can't think of any other word that would fit, except maybe 'honor', but that only seems appropriate for martial arts masters and stuff...

I Live in Arizona!!!!!!!! Why would i say that about America if i lived somewhere else????
The 1st time i had commited a crime , i broke my own window..i don't see how that is domestic violence but whatever.....The 2nd time i was holding a knife and hiding..apperantly you can get arrested for that as well ( BTW I DIDN"T DO ANYTHING THREATENING OR REALLY ANYTHING AT ALL WITH THE KNIFE!!!)Sitting outside, behind your own ******** house holding a knife is not ILLEGAL!!! so yeah i got arrested for that.
Nobody ever told me why i was arrested MEANING A LEGITAMATE REASON and the probation officer made me pretend to feel guilty and appologize to my parents and hug my mom...i got nothing..exept 2 stikes any little thing now and i'll be in juvie till i'm 18 and possibly locked up longer. And yes i went to the ******** mental hospital..I'm Susanna Kaysen HELLO!!! I have spent 22 days total ( the 2 combined) but it feels like a lifetime..you go in one person and they send you out something else..something unnatural....but really what is anymore?
