I was horribly disappointed with the final book and even found some faults in the other books. I know that no one is perfect..so what do you think J.K. could have done differently?

I think she could have worried less about making it so that no one could write a sequill and actually given us a decent ending. Seriously, the end felt so out of place. It was unrealistic. I think she should have killed off one of the trio, just to make it all seem more real. It was too idealistic of an ending! good triumphs! i mean, that's been done, lets have some new twist to it. make it all not so happy! I think she was more concerned with keeping Harry Potter hers (which isn't it anyway due to copyrights?) and "ending" it finally, that she messed up horribly.
Other than book 7, i don't think she did anything wrong at all. The other books were great, the story flowed well, a little cliche in parts, but still good.

I have to agree with you. In my opinion the ending of the book was horribly rushed. You didn't have time to acknowledge all of the deaths that happened..and Ginny and the others just happened to beat Bellatrix Lestrange at her own game...I don't see it. Strong will or not, I dont' see it

me either... Bella's death was only acknowledged for about half a page, and for all that she had done, i felt that was horrible. she deserved a big show, course in the movie it might be good, cause Voldemort's anger snaps again and ppl are blasted away, so it will be better in the movie, but then the whole series was leading up to a final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort, and the actual fair, one-on-one duel was one curse each, and "the end" No struggle like in book 4, no nothing. it was just so anti-climatic! that was the whole high point of the series, and it was pathetically done. Which only angers me since in that absolutely pathetic excuse for a duel (i think we can all agree on that right?) my favorite character dies, which just makes it all the worse. I can understand people dying, it was war, but some of the deaths were just over with so fast or were so poorly executed (haha executed... punny) that it was just infuriating.

I know what you mean. I think that all of the great characters shoudl have had some kind of blow-out death..but i mean c'mon look at what she did to Snape. None of the characters that died were good characters..they were great. Some not necessarilly good, but the things that they did were of great power and standing..Good or evil that shoudl have been recognized in the book.

The GreatSalazarSlytherin She could have given snape a more dignified death I second that, but I suppose his was probably one of the most painful.

Begin transmission:
She changed Ginny's character way to much to fast. First she was this innocent little, quiet shy girl, then you read HBP and she's snogging guys left and right. Some characters that played a major role did not get well developed in my eyes, and like some said, the important people didn't have a really "WOW" death like they really should have. Then the kids names? Don't even get me started on some of them.
End transmission.

Sweet Rebellion I must admit none of my favorite characters died in the duel... Lucky... If i was to name my favorite characters, they all died in Deathly Hallows, in about 100 pages of each other or so, with one exception, who died earlier in the book...

I agree, Ginny has always bugged me for some reason. She just never seemed to have been written correctly, if that makes sense... I agree also that she changed so quickly and so dramatically that it just didn't feel real. Did anyone else feel as though Ginny was a Mary-Sue -ish character?

I read in an interview JK did with MSNBC news (or whatever) that the original ending (if you meant the epilogue) was longer and much more detailed, like providing information on how Harry and Ron became Aurors and how Hermione is high up in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. However, she decided to change it because she thought she was "cramming almost a lot of things into just that one chapter", and plus, she wanted to leave viewers in a "standing in the mist" viewpoint, so I think that was why she edited the epilogue.
