It seems everyone who has ever played Dungeons and Dragons has had a favorite character that they created and played.
For me it was Demis Khan - a cross class rogue sorceror. I liked him because he was so different from the typical rogue. This wasn't entirely intentional at first since he was the first rogue I ever made and I didn't yet know how to be the rogueish type. His character description said he "liked exotic food and exotic women." His back story said he was the son of a barbarian chief and ran away from home where he became a rogue in the city (and a freelance artist - I used skill points for ranks in painting) because he hated the barbarian life; He had no barbarian levels. The kind of character he really was came out best in a particular situation where our adventuring party wanted to open a locked trunk. Everyone called on Demis to do it because he was the rogue. "I have a crowbar." I (Demis) said. Then someone asked, "Why don't you just pick the lock?" Then I said, "Why? I have a crowbar." I don't think I had a thief's toolkit. As a side note Demis almost had his brain eaten by a mindflayer. The party's cleric (played by my wife) was hesitant to save him because he had been hitting on her and annoying her. Ultimately good alignment overruled personal grudgery - thank goodness (no pun intended)...
Those were the days.
So who was/is your favorite character?

My first and most favorite are my three death-touched Fate brothers and no, I didn't actually plan on making three, it just happened. The first was a necromancer named Dimitri with his human skeleton named Brandon. He's very clingy to Brandon and very rarely uses anything other than battlefield manipulation spells. Next comes the eldest of the three, a cleric named Faust. After a little play time I made Faust into a gentler and saner version of Dr. Faust from Guilty Gear, but rather than have a bag over his head, I just gave him a permanent narrow/squinty-eyed smile (I think it's called the kitsune smile...). The newest member is the middle child named Ziggy, a shapeshifting druid who worships a neutral evil god of hunting.
At first the story was Dimitri was journeying for fun and Faust to find a way to cure the death-touched "affliction". With the addition of Ziggy...nothing really changed except now they try to find others that are rejected by their own.

Ah, the crowbar, just like my portable crane... In any case, as the group I play with will attest, my favorite so far was Topaz Briar, a dwarf warrior who used a urgrosh to devistating effect. He ended up becoming insane (killing a sheep in one episode) and taking many things randomly. Before he ascended into destructiv minor godhood, he gained a sword that grew to 20' once drawn. Countless bosses fell to the mere unsheathing of the weapon. The rest of the party had more fun on other aspects, fireballing (the sorcerer), sneaking/climbing/otherwise going through places the DM wouldn't want (rogue), and RP/negotiating (bard). The latter was often cut off by one of the others plying their trade. Overall, he was unique and always evolving. As a side note, he did take up fire breathing with pure alchohol... twisted

I really have only played two games of D&D for any real length of time in r/l, though I've done a lot of other rps and such. Favorite D&D character though is Xian, he was an outcast drow DreadNecromancer. He was an outcast because he didn't worship Lolth as the a godess, he was dedicated to the drow goddess of death and necromancy, I forget the name. He did have a zombie pet squrriel for a while... picked it up in the World Tree, but it got crushed in the Abyss, so it's spirit will now never know rest since it was absorbed into the wrong plane. Xian feels a little warm fuzzy inside when he things back about that squirrel it was his first zombie too.

My favorite character was actually the inspiration for my Gaia handle.
Darius Flint was originally from an RP on the UGMadness forums. He was a homeless vagrant. Not terribly bright or particularly dangerous, he was balanced out by his alter ego: the de-throned God of Monsters (who may or may not have been a hallucination.) He would perch on Darius' shoulder and give him advice, often in the middle of a conversation. Darius, of course, would talk to the God as if everyone else was just choosing to ignore him.

It's hard to pick a favorite even though i've only had a few long games, but i guess, my favorite character was a ranger who used primarily a longbow. His name was Thomas Vals, after a time he became a bloodhound. I had to love the whole tracking and subdual attack portion of him, and his character wasn't bad either. I mean the ranger was the people person in the group... he spent most of his time in the woods, but because of that he had a very neutral attitude, and became the mediator between a barbarian, paladin, and from time to time an elven girl soul-bound to a demon. Somehow it worked... He was always telling the demon girl to lay of hitting on the barbarian, and teasing the pally, while trying to stop the pally from killing her. It was an interesting predicament to work through.
