Alright, well my dad bought me a Spanish book so I can learn it.

I'm looking through it, and learning some basic things.

And I was wondering...

1)It says: ¿Cómo se escribe su appellido?
In French, "écrire" means to write, and "appeler" or something means to spell.
but why are both in the sentece?

2) What's the difference between "Mi" and "Me?"

3) What does "as" mean? Is it like plural?
Like in Cuántos/as.
And what does "os" mean?

I'm going to try my best to help you thou I am warning you I have never teached anything before so I might not be a very good teacher. sweatdrop
1.) says : How do you write your surname? French and spanish sound a bit a like in some things (I have a cousin from Versailles) appeler is not the same thing as appellido thou "éscrire" sounds a lot like escribe

2.) I don't understand do you mean why they sound the same but are not spelled the same if they sound the same? I'm sorry I don't think I can answer this one I'll just confuse you more ^^;;;;

3.) "as" is singular and second person for "¿tu as cantado?"
Translating to : "you have sung (before)?" so it means sort of like to have from what my mom explained to me. and "os" is castellano wich is a different form of spanish I think and it means told like "¡os te dicho que no agas eso!"
Tanslating to: I told you not to do that! I'm sorry "os" I don't really use when I'm speaking spanish I think only people from Spain use that they have a slighty different spanish.
I really hoped I helped you and if anyone finds any mistakes with most likely my spelling ^^;;;; please correct me it's been a long time since I have written in spanish.
Books are good for studying when learning languages but not very useful if you don't have a teacher in my opinion ,I mean you could try learning the stuff yourself but sometimes you might be pronouncing something wrong and never know it because you don't have a person who actually can correct you (happens to me with Japanese and chinese ^^;; wink

2 - Mi it's like "This is my room" - "Este es mi cuarto", "my name is" - "mi nombre es","Where's my brother?" - "¿Donde esta mi hermano?".
Me, it's like English me i think (I'm from Argentina, and my english is not the best) "Don't touch me" - "No me toques"

3 - os/as is plural in some words, like "Dogs" - "Perros (Masculine), Perras (Femenine)"

It's "Has" in "Tu has cantado". "As" in spanish means Ace. About "Os", it's not that, but as I said, my english is not the best, so I don't know how to explain it :S

I.) Apellido means surname.
II. Mi is used either after a preposition (a mi, para mi, etc), or as a possessive (mi coche). Me is like, objective, or the short-hand way of saying a mi/para mi. (Me odia, he hates me. Me lo as comprao? Did you buy it for me?)
III.) Os is something we Spaniards use. It's the objective form of vosotros. 3nodding You don't really need it if you're in the Americas.
