Ah, yes, Non-Player Characters, also known as NPCs...we all love them, and they can be damn useful little things. If you have any NPCs, go ahead and send me a little description of them like this:

Name – occupation; nationality; age; relationship to PC(s)
General Appearance: hair; eyes; complexion; build; height; face and anything else you’d like to add
If the character is Playable by All, we also need a short personality description

Make sure you tell me where they're located, because to make it easier for other people to find your NPCs, I'm going to list them under you, then under where they live.

Mini-FPQ: NPCs

What Is an NPC? An NPC is a character that interacts with Player-Characters (PCs) in the story to help flesh out the RPG world and give people social connections.

Who is an NPC? An NPC can be anyone: a Church Employee, a family member, a close friend, even the local bartender of your favorite pub.

What's the Difference Between an NPC and a PC? In a lot of RPGs, the big difference is that only the mods can play NPCs... but that's not how we roll here. whee In "Lux Nova," NPCs function very much like normal characters, except for two big limitations:
(1) They cannot move the plot in any strong way. They might deliver messages that could have large impacts on PCs, but that's about as intense as it gets.
(2) Unless they are interacting with a PC, NPCs are basically ignored. In other words, you'd never write a post of them just hanging out on their own somewhere, slugging down a beer and picking up chicks - if their actions don't affect a PC, then we're not gonna hear about 'em.

Do NPCs "Belong" to RPers? Some do and some don't. There are some characters, located under the "NPCs Playable by All" post (the first one below) who are flat characters that anyone can use when they need them. However, there are other characters who interact deeply with PCs and have distinct personalities and histories. These NPCs "belong" to the RPer who created them, and should be treated like PCs. The list below will help clear up which is which, if you're ever confused.

NPCs Playable by All

These are the NPCs that were created by a member of the RPG, but have limited personalities and connections with other characters. They are therefore playable by anyone who needs a quick NPC to run errands, ask for a favor, etc.

Ishmaels Theatre Troupe

Aaron Sean McMurdo – set builder for The Ishmaels and assistant to Nathaniel, 20
General Appearance: Sandy blonde hair just long enough to hang in his eyes; hazel eyes; slight tan; 5’8; a bit ferrety-looking, with a pointed nose and a lean physique.
Basic Personality: A bit of a loud-mouth, but generally a decent guy. Aaron is flirtatious, but usually only with women who aren’t in the troupe (they’ve all turned him down); that doesn’t stop him from calling them all “baby” and “honey,” though. He does his job well, but he can get impatient when the helpers for building the sets don’t know what they’re doing.

Manhattan: Members of Raven's "Flock"
*Note: All names in this section are bird nicknames unless otherwise noted*

Chaco – male doctor who lives on the corner of Central Park & 5th Avenue; Hispanic-American; early 40s – married to Dove
General Appearance: Thinning, neck-length dark brown hair; brown eyes; tanned skin; soft, slightly chubby build; 5’10”; sports a few wrinkles around his mouth & eyes as well as a moustache-and-goatee.
Basic Personality: Constantly grumbling and a bit surly, but he’s a big teddy bear at heart. Possesses mild Earth Craft which he uses to help mix medicines and herbal compresses for his patients

Dove – female doctor who lives on the corner of Central Park & 5th Avenue; American; mid 30s – married to Chaco
General Appearance: Dirty blond hair that falls in tight ringlets to her chin; grey eyes; slightly tanned skin; slim build; 5’5”; with slightly unattractive features (long nose, wide-set eyes) made ‘cute’ by her willing smile
Basic Personality: An extreme pacifist with a very chipper personality – so chipper that it can sometimes be a little exhausting. Possesses no Craft, but she graduated from Philadelphia University with a Medical degree before escaping the city on charges of heresy some 10 years ago.

Feng – runs a butcher shop on 8th Ave. & 49th St (lives above it); Chinese; mid 40s
General Appearance: Straight black hair with a few grey streaks, braided, falls to his shoulder blades; hazel eyes; tanned skin; medium build; 5’8”; with a hint of both wrinkles and a slim moustache on his otherwise smooth features.
Basic Personality: Very mild-mannered and easy-going, willing to help out pretty much everyone for small favors in return; doesn’t speak the best English, but he understands it well. Possesses Innate Fire Craft.

Sparrow – parents run the area’s “electric company”; she works as a spy for Raven; African-American (of Hai-uri descent); mid-20s
General Appearance: Black, wiry hair cropped about an inch from her scalp; dark brown eyes; dark brown skin color; wiry build; 5’1”; small and agile, almost “spider-like” in appearance, with sharp features that are just short of pretty.
Basic Personality: Snarky and fun-loving when not at work, but takes her job very seriously and absolutely will not tolerate poor performance from herself or anyone else. Possesses mild telepathy that allows her to mask her presence from any other telepaths in the area; also Hai-uri abilities (description coming soon).

Redtail – “captain” of Manhattan’s unofficial police force (Raven relies on him and his gang to keep the general peace and help out with little incidents, and sometimes she'll ask for their help with the big crimes, too); American; late 20s
General Appearance: Auburn hair falling in a messy mop into his eyes and down to his neck; hazel eyes flecked with amber; lightly tanned skin; medium build; 5'10"; attractive, broad-shouldered and muscle-toned from head to toe, with a half-smirk almost always present on his sometimes-shaven face.
Basic Personality: A bit rough-and-tumble – he loves his liquor, his women, and his gambling –but fair and calm in his judgments; excellent shot with a gun and deadly in a fistfight. Possesses mild Metal Craft.

Goshawk (called “Gos”) – one of Raven’s subjects; currently working as security at the Drunken Penguin; American, werewolf; early 30s – Mouse’s lover
General Appearance: Curly brown hair cropped close to his head; green eyes; “coffee-with-cream” colored skin; medium build; 5’11”; average-looking features, but his confidence makes him seem sexy.
Basic Personality: Cheerful, friendly, and boisterous; likes to go out of his way to perform acts of chivalry for anyone in need; deadly with knives or fists.

Titmouse (called “Mouse”) – one of Raven’s subjects; currently working as security at the Drunken Penguin; Swedish-American, ¼ elf ¾ human; late 30s – Gos’ lover
General Appearance: Short, straight blond hair parted in the middle; blue eyes; pale skin; slim build; 5’9”; with slightly pointed ears and a clean-shaven, mildly attractive face.
Basic Personality: Soft-spoken and always the perfect gentleman; sometimes comes across as a bit “boring” compared to his other half, but he can tell an amazing story when prompted and has a great singing voice; excellent aim with pistols or throwing knives

Manhattan: Citizens

Coral Macintyre – a waitress at the Sassy Cavy, 23
General Appearance: Her hair is usually dyed a vivid shade of purple and trimmed short in a “pixie” cut; green eyes; ivory skin; 5’4; has a heart-shaped face and a smallish pear-shaped figure; both ears are pierced five times and she has a silver hoop nose ring.
Basic Personality: Coral seems pretty apathetic most of the time, like her mind is on something else or like she doesn’t need you or this job. She’s never rude to the people she’s serving, but she isn’t exactly pleasant and polite to them either. If you’re nice, she’ll even get your order right.

Gaia Picture: User Image

Lilly Karan – the new, unofficial owner of the Drunken Penguin, 25
General Appearance: Curly, black hair, usually pinned up with copper hairpins; sharply perceptive grey eyes; fair skin; curvy—a bit on the plump side, but pleasantly, even seductively, so; 5’8; has a cute button nose and an oval-shaped face
Basic Personality: Lilly has the kind of straightforward and businesslike attitude that gets things done. The people working at the Drunken Penguin like and respect her, and immediately do her bidding because of her commanding air. She’s friendly enough, though, and if it comes to an attractive, roguish, young man, she can be pretty flirtatious.
(appears on IC pages 14 and 15 first, in Pyskwynn’s posts)

Manhattan: Members of the Church

Father Enoch Björnsen – one of the priests under Medina at St. Patrick’s, 34
General Appearance: Cornflower blonde hair cut short with bangs; light brown eyes; beige-toned skin; just shy of six feet tall; muscular; well-defined features and a square jawline.
Basic Personality: Father Björnsen is a stoic figure, but easy enough to get along with. He doesn’t try to cause trouble, and instead prefers to meld with the background. It’s a bit of a mystery why he’s so skilled with a gun and so familiar with interrogation techniques, but he seems to be well-acquainted with Father Fuller, who is skilled in similar ways.

Father Benson Fuller – one of the priests under Medina at St. Patrick’s, 32
General Appearance: Curly, short-cropped, black hair; grey eyes; dark brown skin; 5’8 ½; average-looking, with a lean build and an oval face.
Basic Personality: Like his friend, Father Björnsen, Father Fuller doesn’t seem very priest-like. He’s very efficient when he has a task to complete, but he’s much more talkative than his friend. He has a fondness of classic Russian literature and chess, and he has a kind, open demeanor.

Brother Raguel Kent – one of the monks under Medina at St. Patrick’s, 26
General Appearance: Dark brown hair; dark brown eyes; sun-tanned skin; 5’9; a handsome young man with high cheeks and an athletic build.
Basic Personality: Brother Kent is essentially a good-natured anthropologist. He volunteered to come to Manhattan because he wanted to study the unique group of people living there, and while he tries his best not to judge, there are times when his Church-centered upbringing get the better of him. He’s learning, though, and is currently in the process of gathering material for a book.

Father Joel McNair – one of the priests under Medina at St. Patrick’s, 37
General Appearance: Prematurely grey hair; startlingly blue eyes; fair skin; 5’10; thin build; long in the face but not bad-looking, with a few light acne scars.
Basic Personality: Father McNair is very bitter about being sent to Manhattan, and mostly keeps to himself and reads. There was something of a scandal involving him and another priest, and everyone thought it best that he be sent someplace far away until the incident blows over.

Brother Roald Meath – a monk who came with Father Medina to Manhattan, 27
General Appearance: Red hair, cut short with bangs; bright blue eyes; freckled all over; 6’2; lanky, with a long, pleasant, but not very attractive face.
Basic Personality: Brother Roald is friendly and talkative, and clever in his perceptiveness. He’s generally a sweet young man with a healthy sense of humor, and he enjoys gardening, cooking, and reading.
Other: He’s the official chronicler for St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and he has a nine-year-old sister who lives in Philadelphia with their parents.

Boston

Gregory Allen - dedicate in the Order of St. Peter who often gets sent on errands; American; in his early 20s
General Appearance: Short and curly strawberry-blonde hair; blue eyes; very pale skin; chubby build; about 5'7"; constantly seen with a sour expression on his face
Basic Personality: A pompous a** who thinks he's above everyone and everything.

Cynthia "Cyndi" Garcia - nun in the Order of St. Mary, currently works as a representative for the Order in the main Church HQ; Mexican-American; in her early 30s
General Appearance: Straight black hair that falls to her shoulder blades; dark brown eyes; tanned skin; average build, fairly well-endowed; about 5'6"; moderately attractive, with soft features
Basic Personality: Smart and curious, she can be very diplomatic when necessary. Is totally dedicated to the Mother Superior and loves to bad-mouth Cardinal Jenner.

Robert "Robby" Lang - layman who often operates the front desk at the main Church HQ; African-American; in his late teens
General Appearance: Wiry, curly black hair cut close to the scalp; black eyes; dark skin; slim build; about 6'0"; almost always seen wearing a friendly smile
Basic Personality: Ivan describes him as "a cheerful, pleasant man as far as lapdogs went, painfully naïve to the Church’s inner workings but friendly to even the heretic prisoners that came and went." That's really Robby in a nutshell. sweatdrop

Rebecca Ann Sutherland - a somewhat lower-ranking member of the Order of St. Joseph (Inquisition), she's in charge of keeping track of the records concerning known demons, witches, and heretics who need to be captured or disposed of, and also dispatches orders to freelance hunters who might be in the area; American; in her forties
General Appearance: Chin-length, graying hair (formerly blonde), curled so it rests against her cheeks; blue-green eyes; pale skin; heavyset build; about 5'3"; she also wears blue-rimmed, oval glasses.
Basic Personality: She's always smiling and keeps her voice pleasant and sugary-sweet, but the tone is obviously fake, and she laces her so-called "friendly banter" with subtly scathing remarks. Despises all that the Church stands against, and looks down on freelancers. Adores Cardinal Jenner. (So, basically she's Professor Umbridge. 3nodding ) I also recently decided that she was a racist.
