Well, im pretty sure you all know these guys, they kinda are in the mainstream.
I prefer them in the Spiritual Black Dimensions stage, although i like them anyway.

I suppose its one of those bands u either hate or love, no middle ground.

Melodic/Symphonic BM, for those who do not know what im talking about...

stormblast was really the only album by them that i respect as true BM. the original that is, not the re-recorded.

don't get me wrong, they're a good band, i just don't consider anything else they did to be black metal. i call it symphonic metal.

That's fair enough. They changed quite a bit since Stormblast...

aye, that they did.

i still like death cult armageddon, but calling it BM is a bit of a stretch for me

I guess I just keep calling them BM after all because of what they did in the past and the influences they still have... But your point is completely understandable.

Well the riffs are still quite reminiscent of Black Metal...
I call them Pop Black Metal...
They dont have any pop sound or influence, but...
Dimmu is catchy, and more modern than usual black metal
Its easier for people to get into Dimmu than ur usual BM
The symphonic part is just chocolate on the cake
Altough early material really was BM
Its still a band I like a lot

I loved the puritanical euphoric misanthropia stage, and earlier, well, death cult was good, and the serpintine offering off ISD was ok....vortex made it good.

I have to say, I like ICS's clean vox especially.

I do too. I like the earlier Dimmu Borgir better than the newer stuff they've put out. DCA was alright, that's what really got me into Dimmu, but then I started getting their earlier stuff and liked it better. The newest album is really blaaaaaah, all the songs sounds just the same, the album is like one song. confused

I've seen them twice, I liked them better in 2005 when they played their older songs too and didn't yell 'DO YOU WANT TO HEAR SOME MORE TRUE NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL!?!' all the ******** time like they did this summer....

I still call them BM. Straight and flat...Black metal.

I know people disagree but i can really hear it, and i think they still have a LOT of black metal aspects to them. If you look at their record label for their latest albums (where th most change was), Fredrik Nordstrum, you can see that a lot of them start using more MIDI tracks, etc, making them seem less BMish. Atleast that's my excuse. They also have the popularity effect against them.

I play guitar and playing their stuff and any other black metal bands' songs, there isn't to much difference.

But yes I do agree that their new stuff has changed a lot...but I am still in love with it. Shagrath and ICS vortex rule. Plus their lyrics are always sweet.

They're okay, I just don't know enough songs to say they're good.
