which do you perfer to use?
fans: some use electricity or can use man made energy (your arms). they circulate the warm/cool air already existing in the room. supposively doesnt use as much energy as an A.C.
air conditioner: use electricity cause theres no other way for it to work. they use the air from outside to make cool air that irresistable, but uses alot of energy raising you light bill to the sky.
i use both sadly enough. during the day its the fan and during the night its the A.C. but if it was up to me i would use the A.C. only. actually i should leave it on all day while im in the house cause i pay my own light bill. sweatdrop

How much energy A.C. uses can actually depend heavily on how well insulated your house is. My first small apartment had higher A.C. bills than my second apartment which was over twice as big because the insulation in the first place sucked. Also air conditioners (such as those in cars) are much more efficient if they use recirculated air once it is reasonbly cool inside. I am pretty sure home A.C. always use recirculated air.
In desert climates like Utah we also have swamp coolers. I mention it because at my old job a coworker from Minnesota had never heard of swamp coolers. For those like him, a swamp cooler is a lot like a fan, except it blows the air across a pad that is constantly wetted by water. These are usually on the roof. They work well, and are mostly energy efficient, but tend to make your house very humid. Older houses with swamp coolers can have bad mold problems.
My car doesn't have an air conditioner (it did but it broke because my car is old). Now I use my 4 X 45 air conditioner, except my car has only two doors/windows so it is really a 2 X 45 A.C. I suppose.

Sometimes the fan just doesn't help you cool down, you can't always rely on it. But the AC will always be there for you.

I sorta agree with you Phoenixrag, except when we have a black out then your left with a manual hand fan.

I guess I don't use much of either unless I'm in a car. I like to use the AC while in a car. If on my home, we don't have AC so the electric fan it is. mrgreen
