If anyone else has read Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy, please talk with me about it. She wrote them under the name A. N. Roquelaure, and they are entitled The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty's Punishment, and Beauty's Release.

THEY ARE EROTICA NOVELS, SO IF IT DISTURBS YOU, DO NOT EITHER READ THE BOOKS OR POST IN THIS TOPIC!!!

I myself have only read the first one and half the second, but I found them to be beautiful pieces of writing in themselves, regardless of the theme.

What are your thoughts?

Eh, it's not about that. I am a big fan of fairy tales, and I still love Disney with all my heart, but the true-blue, original tales were much darker than Disney. For example, The Little Mermaid doesn't marry the prince, she dies giving him up to the one he does love. Tom Thumb dies by spider-bite. Chicken Little and all his friends are eaten by Foxy Loxy. I hear rumor that the original Grimm Brother's tales are even darker.

But I love twists on the stories. There is a Korean manga twist "1001 Arabian Nights" and I've read part. The prince is sadist and loves to kill, the person telling the story isn't female, it's a male who first tries to pass as female because the prince did something nasty to his sister.

This was simply another twist on a tale. Long before I picked up these books, my girlfriends and I would talk about the old fairy tales (mostly because I own a book entitled "The World's Best Fairy Tales" and it has 69 tales) and we were reading the Sleeping Beauty one. That one ended with the only thing the prince did was walk into the tower where Beauty slept. We were comparing that with the "prince's kiss" version. When said friends happened upon the Beauty trilogy I sat and read it.

I recommend you read the rest. It is not just about sex.

Really? Maybe i'll pick up the next one... but erotica isn't much my style anymore... so i probably shouldn't be critiquing it, huh? x"3

I attempted to read the first book but grew tired of being forcefed sexual act after sexual act...be it with people, statues, or god knows what else. I'm sure there IS more to the trilogy and that is why I tried to read it in the first place. I got the impression that the series was more of a social comment about how relationships and human interaction differ from the idealized fairy tales that we tell our little girls...but I can't confirm that theory since I couldn't make myself read the entire book due to its over sexualized writing.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I should have made another thread for this but since I saw her Erotica novels mentioned I thought I would bring up 'Belinda'..
Has anyone ever read that? I am currently and it's holding my interest and actually rather fascinating. Yet I would never pass down a book by Anne. This novel is under "Anne Rampling".
Anywho... I really wanted to stop by the guild an show my love, I haven't been around in months. sweatdrop

A friend of mine read Belinda and told me it was the most boring Rice book she had ever read. She said she only finished it because at the time she was on this quest to read every book in the library and she was on B. Could you go into slightly more detail about the story?
