Ruri put the last few touches to her flag. The wonky picture of a Meditite stared up at her with a stupid grin, as far removed as possible from her own Pokemon, which was glaring at her steadily from his position on the arena floor. She drew one last squiggly blue line before sitting back with a satisfied grin. “There, all done!”

Lore was getting annoyed. Already she had refused to battle one trainer, even though she was the one who’d left a message at the Pokemon Centre in the first place, all because she wanted to finish her stupid flag first. Apparently it was supposed to give him more determination in battle.

Ruri stood up and gave it a test wave. “Now we’re ready.” She said, giving Lore a grin and completely ignoring his large scowl. “So… where are all the trainers?” Hands on hips she looked around, as if trying to figure out why there wasn’t someone there right that second.

Falcon strode across the battlegrounds' fields, heading towards the arena where- apparently- someone was waiting. Kiliina had finally used up her seemingly infinate energy by bouncing around Falcon and chasing every movement she saw; and was asleep, curled up in Falcon's arms. Falcon knew once the little Skitty evolved she'd have difficulty carrying both her Pokemon.
So it seemed today Cale would be battling. The Dragonair was sprawled across her shoulders; the rest of his long, serpentine body flowed down her back and wrapped around her waist. He found the movement of her hips as she walked soothing; but the laid-back Dragon was alert today. His head was up; next to Falcon's own.
Falcon looked at the card in her hand, which the Trainer had left at the Pokemon Centre. There was no name; although Falcon hoped it wasn't the arrogant Trainer with the Meditite. They were nearly there; soon she'd see-
It was the arrogant Trainer with the Meditite. Falcon blew a strand of black hair from her face as multiple options ran through her mind- one including turning around and walking away; another going up to the Trainer- who was holding a poorly-drawn Meditite flag- and telling her what she thought of her.
But Falcon was here to battle; and that was what she would do. She tenderly caressed Cale's face; twisting her head to look at him.
"Win or lose, it doesn't matter; but be sure not to let them think they can push us around, okay? There are more important things than power."
The Dragonair nodded and nuzzled Falcon's face; before starting to unwrap himself from her body.

Lore noticed Falcon first, instantly perking up. He recognized them of course, or at least he recognized the Skitty. One did not get knocked out by an Iron Tail to the head and not remember who did it. But it wasn’t the little cat Pokemon who was battling today, instead it was the Dragonair. No matter, Lore just wanted to fight.

“Medi… Meditite? … MEDI!”

“Wha?!” Ruri finally looked around as Lore shouted to get her attention. “What is it? Oh… Great!” She didn’t immediately recognize the other trainer, being a bit too scatterbrained. “Hey there!" She waved happily before giving Lore a brief nod.

“Ready?” She asked as he positioned himself cross-legged on his side of the field.

"Med."

Cale floated into the ring; his dark eyes lazily assessing the situation. He stoked the draconic flames within him; and wiggled his entire body to loosen him muscles.
"Okay Cale, use Dragon Breath!" Falcon called.
The Dragonair took a deep breath; and he used it to send a beam of the blue and golden draconic flames at the Meditite.
(Dice Roll)
But not yet warmed up- mentally or physically- Cale's attack was powerful, but poorly aimed. Falcon shook her head; it didn't look as though the attack would hit at all.
"Focus, Cale! Do your best!"

Dragon Breath? Ok then. Ruri thought quickly, assessing both her Pokemon and the opponents. “Use you mind to create a force field Lore. Don’t let it touch you!” She called, waving her homemade flag with enthusiasm.

Lore nodded, closing his eyes and using his inner powers to create a field around him. From the point of view of someone watching, he glowed blue briefly before the flames engulfed him.

When the flames had drifted away, Lore was still sitting there, completely unharmed and unfazed. There was a ball of light gathering near his chest even before Ruri called out his first attack. “Use Psybeam!”

On command the beam of rainbow light shot out at Cale.

"That's a Psychic attack, Cale! Prepare yourself!"
The Dragonair's eyes narrowed; how did one prepre for an attack of the mind? He tried to put up mental barriers; but when the attack came, just the knowledge that it was going to happen relieved some of the damage. Still, the Dragonair drifted towards the ground as he threw his head; the pain within it was strong.
He managed to shake it off quickly; although he was left with a headache.
"That's great, Cale! Now, head in fast and use Body Slam!" The Dragonair lifted himself higher from the ground at her command; and he dove through the air at the Meditite.
(Dice Roll)
The pounding in his head distracted his aim slightly; although Falcon was pleased to see he put plenty of effort in despite that. She pumped the air.
"That's great, Cale!"

Not the strongest of attacks, but that was simply because Lore had put his focus on protecting himself from the Dragon Breath. He continued to sit calmly, until he heard Ruri shouting from the sidelines. “Dodge it Lore!”

Damn. He hadn’t been focusing! The Body Slam hit him pretty hard, sending him flying backwards. Lore gritted his teeth and quickly righted himself. Darting forward he lifted his hand, bringing it down at Cale in a Brick Break attack.

Ruri sighed. He wasn’t listening to her again.

"Be careful, Cale!" The Dragonair flipped and started to rise into the air; but the attack landed on his lower tail. He rumbled deep in his chest at the attack; it didn't really hurt, though. Falcon nodded; he was still focused on the battle.
"Okay, Cale! Use Slam!"
Cale spun his body; bringing his weighted tail around in a wide arc to sweep it into the Meditite.
(Dice Roll)
He didn't really have time to aim it properly after avoiding the last attack; and Falcon frowned when she saw it'd be lucky to land at all. Still, she could tell that he was trying; even if he wasn't having much success. And that was more important than winning.

“Too weak Lore. That’s what happens when you attack before I tell you to.” Ruri was standing with her hands on her hips, looking exasperated. “Now dodge that Slam!”

Lore was looking very annoyed after his attack had only managed to hit Cale’s tail, doing such little damage. He quickly darted towards the side. The Slam caught his arm slightly but the bulk of the Dragonair swept past him.

“Confusion.”

Lore spun his body around to face Cale, the area around him rippling purple. He focused his attention on the Dragonair, pushing with his mind.

"Cale, another Psychic attack!" Falcon's call alerted the Dragonair; but he didn't have time to prepare himself beyond the knowledge that the assault was coming. He threw his head back as his mind twisted; sinking to the ground, he tried to throw the affect out of his head, with a little success.
He rose shakily from the ground; his head pounding even more now. He let out a little noise of discomfort; but awaited Falcon's order.
"Okay, keep focus! Use Dragon Breath!"
Cale was glad to not have to physically move much for a brief moment; and he took in a deep breath, fueling the flames within himself. He narrowed his eyes; and, determined to do his best, sent a beam of dancing blue and gold flames at the foe.
(Dice Roll)
Falcon clenched her fist; seeing Cale throw his all into the attack, her eyes welled with tears of pride. He poured more and more energy into the attack; giving his all.

“Lore!”

Lore didn’t have to time to get himself together using Confusion, his eyes snapped open to see a wave of blue and gold flames roaring towards him. Eyes widening, Lore attempted to move out of the way but failed.

“Meeedi!”

The attack hit him badly. When it was over he was crouched on the ground, his body singed and shaking. Eventually he shook his head, struggling up and glaring at Cale. “Medi!” ‘Is that all you’ve got’, he seemed to be saying.

Ruri gasped. No, they had to be strong! She jumped up and waved her flag vigorously. “”Let’s go Lore, use Cross Chop!”

Lore gathered his strength and ran at Cale, lifting both hands into the karate-type fighting move.

Falcon brought her clenched fists up to her chest as she called out to Cale.
"Dodge that, Cale; and immediately follow it up with Slam!"
The Dragonair moved backwards through the air; although the Cross Chop slammed down near the end of his serpentine body. He flipped in the air once he was clear of the Meditite; and swung his entire body. The orbs on his tail became a dark blur as his tail swung in a wide arc; heading for the Meditite.
(Dice Roll)
Cale managed to get a lot of power behind the attack; although the accuracy wasn't great. Falcon called out to the Dragonair.
"You're doing great!"

Lore was still reeling from the last attack. He was in a great amount of pain and it distracted him from his own attack and then Cale’s next one. The blow caught him in the side, Lore putting out a hand to ward it off as best he could.

Ruri stopped her flag waving. This wasn’t going too well. But they could still do it… of course they could! “Use Psybeam!”

The Meditite wavered a bit where he stood before straightening and quickly sending out the multi-coloured beam. Lore put as much as he could behind it, letting his anger rise.

"Cale, another Psychic attack!" The tired Dragonair tried to lift his mental defenses; but the attack twisted his already abused his mind and he cried out in pain. Falcon bit her lip; they needed to work out a way for him to avoid damage from psychic attacks.
"Come on, Cale!" Falcon called. "Do your best; use Body Slam!"
The Dragonair shook off the affects of the Psybeam; and he dove through the air, hoping to throw all his weight on the Meditite.
(Dice Roll)
But he could barely see straight; and to his confusion, Cale could see three Meditite. His eyes narrowed; and he tried to head for the middle- and likely the real- one.

Lore saw the attack coming and stumbled to the side. It missed for the most part, except for Cale’s tail whipping around at the end and catching him by the legs, causing him to fall backwards into a heap.

Unlike some his last battle, he wasn’t tired or exhausted. No, it was just the pain. It coursed through his body, disabling his movements. Again he struggled upright. Forget physical attack, Lore didn’t want to move.

“Focus Lore!” Ruri called, knowing this would all come down to his determination to win. “Then use another Psybeam.”

Lore moved into a mediation position on the ground. He let out a soft breath, feeling the power within him and then bringing it outward in that now familiar rainbow beam.
