Chapter One discusting teeth and introductions...
Clang! Our swords bashed together violently. These were the negotiations of the harshest sort, the only way I do negotiate.
The pirate advanced on me, his intentions clear. He wanted the pocket watch returned to him. He opened his mouth to speak, revealing the yellow, decayed cage that was once a row of teeth. Actually, it was probably never a row of teeth. “Ye best hand me treasure back now ye bloody thief!”
“Or what? You’ll hit me with that rusty oversized knife?” I sneered. “Judging by the look of that so-called sword, its about to fall apart any minute.”
He smiled a wicked smile, one that can only mean certain death for someone like me. The hero always wins right? Wrong. I win, but I’m no hero. “I’ll not be needin’ teh hit ye, not when I can summon…”
I stepped back in fake surprise. “Summon? But you’re not a witch doctor!” I lunged; feinting slightly so as not to really hit his throat but to appear to. In truth, It’s really the sword, not the watch that I am after. It’s an ancient artifact that I have been tracking for a long time, leading me to this era, years into a future far from my own. My own? I am from year 2007a.d., Earth. For me, there is no limit of time, because that’s what I do. I track down artifacts through where and when. I am the bounty hunter codename Zero: I work for the mysterious R3z and the Gallery Of Time.
The man in front of me was desperate. I have learned by experience that desperation is equal to the fact that I am close to victory. Well almost. At least I knew what he would do in his last leg. He raised the sword. “Now! I summon ye! The vengeful Maegara!”
At that moment, I was grabbed from behind. I had been duped. The sword was worthless. The pirate needed only the slightest distraction, but he had thus proved that he knew of the sword, but used the knowledge to fake out opponents. “Let me go!” I yelled in fury. Somehow my plans always go wrong to some degree.

Chapter Two The Heart of a Pirate
[i apologize for this chapter bieng so long, i know that a lot of you have some form of attention deficit, but i couldnt find a place to stop, also, i seperated the paragraphs to make it easier to read.]
The pirate that grabbed me tightened his grip. “You’ll be giving us the trinket back now, or ye’ll walk the plank.” They both sneered, as if their threat was new and exiting. Apparently times in the far future were about as original as the latest in emo.
“Yeah, nice job, did you think of that yourself?” I laughed as I continued to struggle. “Honestly, its pretty cliché.”
They turned to each other and laughed. “Ye seem teh have forgotten, tis an airship yer on little miss.”
Crap! I knew that he didn’t have the sword but I couldn’t just give the watch back! It wasn’t even that expensive looking but if they found out where I put it, they would know what I was really after. Also, there had to be a reason that they would agonize over something so small. “Um…right, but if you toss me over the side, who will tell you where the pretty gold watch is?” I had to talk my way out of this fast! The rest of the crew would be coming back soon.
The pirate in front stared at me fiercely. The other was relentlessly constricting me. “Ye don’t even know what it is, wench! Think ye could jes stow away and be knickin’ our booty? Think again, fer what ye have stolen is worth many a life.”
Aha! So that was why they were going to go through so much trouble to get something so worthless back! Then it wasn’t just an ordinary watch. Now I had to keep it.
“Well then, you wouldn’t want to kill me, or you’ll never get it back.”
The one binding me sighed. “We cant let ‘er get away then can we?”
“Ay, lock ‘er in the Brig then. Let the captain deal with this.” And with that, the man strode off into the cabin.
“Best get movin’ now, girl” the pirate shoved me towards the door that led to the inside of the airship. “If you decide to change yer mind about givin’ us the watch, use the small phone in the cell. Call fer ‘Farfax’ as it be me name.” He said as he locked the prison door.
“Hey Farfax?” I asked. If I wanted to find out about the sword I had better ask now. “What do you know about the Onyx Sword?” As long as I was locked up, I changed my mind about revealing my intentions.
He turned around to face me. He had a large, sturdy body and his features were dull. He did not seem to be a very lively person, but was more of a prime example of the average bodyguard that might overhear things said by people higher up. Not only did he seem as if he might know something, but there was a kindness in his eyes that other pirates don’t normally have. He seemed to be the perfect way to get some information.
He chuckled. He was right in doing so. The Onyx Sword is a very powerful artifact. “Now, what brings a young lass like yerself to ask about a thing like that?”
I shuddered slightly. I would have to play it just right to gain the trust of this man. “Well, the truth is…I lost the watch.” I took a breath, I wasn’t sure if he would believe it. “And I really didn’t mean to take it, I just wanted to look at it! And then I dropped it over the edge. You guys found me in the cabin, and then the watch turned up missing, but I’m really sorry! I told you I had it so you wouldn’t kill me! Please don’t tell the other guy!” I pleaded seemingly innocent. I was lying through my teeth, but as long as he didn’t find out, I would be fine.
“Don’t ye cry now. I won’t tell, I swear on my honor.” He stepped in closer to the cell. “But why is it that ye be askin’ of the Sword?”
Keeping up the act, I leaned forward as if to tell a secret. “Well I thought…since I lost the watch, I could get something better and I heard that the Onyx Sword is very valuable.”
“That’d is, that’d is. All right, I’ll tell you what I know of this ‘Onyx Sword,’ it seems you do want teh help. But not now! I’ll tell you later when I bring you food.”
“Do you want to know what’s in it for you?” I asked coyly, to ensure that I get my information.
He smiled good-naturedly. “Naw, I don’t mind. Ye look jus’ like me daughter yeh see…haven’t seen her in years. Truth be, I hate piracy, but I have teh send money home, so I’m here. ” And with that, he turned and left.
End of Chapter Two
[so, for those who want to know more about the sword, it will be revealed in chapter three which is currently being written. although it is important to the story, the story is not really about the sword, so dont worry about it.]

Chapter 3 A Tool of Evil
The cell was well built and fairly new and there was no chance of escape. Even if I did there wasn’t anywhere I could go. If I went back to the gallery empty handed, I would regret it. All I could do was wait for Farfax to return with information about the Sword. In the corner there was a wad of blankets to serve as a bed, well I hoped they were a bed, but in the time being, I could never be sure. The cell also had a small square box on the opposite wall. A box that I could only guess to be some sort of plumbing system in their time, there seemed to be no other explanation. Near the cell door was an intercom, for communications to other places on the ship, there was one in every room. Hours passed and a small button on it began to flash. I instinctively pressed it and Farfax appeared on the screen.
“Jus’ bringin’ some food down from the galley.” He announced with a wink. He said something else I didn’t catch and then the screen went blank. ************************************* “So, yeh want teh know about the Onyx Sword…” Farfax sighed… “Where teh begin…”
I moved in eagerly. The information that was about to be divulged was priceless and crucial to my objectives. “How about what it does.” I suggested. “Let’s start there!” I had some knowledge of the sword, but not enough to be deemed even proficient. What I knew was only what I had been told by R3z, a source not to be trusted in any matter. This was my chance to test the credibility of what I had been told.
He scratched his head. All crude speech was gone from his face, he now spoke with the voice of what he truly was, a man educated specially in all areas, including this particular subject. “The Onyx Sword” he began, “Is a summoning Sword, a great Evil. In any hands, if it is used great destruction will follow. Luckily, only a skilled magic user or heir of the blacksmith Zansen has that ability. The real danger however, lies in other properties of the sword.”
I gasped. This, I had not been told. I had learned from the few missions that I had been on already not to trust R3z, her motives were her own, but I was beginning to understand how far the deceit ran. I was only to be told what was completely necessary and nothing more.
Farfax continued. “It is said that one swing of the Onyx Sword once slaughtered 1000. The legend as it that Zansen himself made a pact with the Hades, binding the vengeful spirit of Maegara to the very Onyx stone it was carved out of. When Zansen died, Hades gave it to a young soldier by the name of Akilis Coaron, who was to fight in the Neo-Crusades.”
I looked up sharply. “Neo-Crusades?” the name was unfamiliar, definitely not before or during my time.
He sighed. “You’re really just an uneducated thief with guts aren’t you? In any case, that was the war of 100R.E. (the period of time after A.D., although some still refer to it as A.D.) The sword caused so much destruction that Hades took it out of the possession of men and put it in a place that is nearly unreachable, until airships, that is.” “Is that the real reason then, why you became a pirate?” I asked. This man was definitely not in it for the money. He was a professor of some sort, I could tell. “Never mind, where is the sword now?”
He chuckled, reverting back to his pirate guise. “Aye lass, ye’have figured me out. But the on’y way to the sword lies with you…And the Watch in yer pocket.

Chapter 4 The Captain
“That’s impossible,” I sighed. “The watch doesn’t open, so I thought I could sell it to a merchant as soon as I escaped. It looked really old and valuable”
Farfax Shifted in his chair “Ah, but have you tried-” he was cut off suddenly as a loud alarm sounded from the intercom system.
“ALL HANDS TO DECK! ALL HANDS TO DECK!” It screeched, piercing the sound barrier with its blaring wail. “REPEAT, ALL HANDS TO DECK WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!!!!!”
Farfax rose abruptly and turned on a dime, running towards the long hall that led to the stairs.
“Wait!” I cried. “What about me? I can fight! Let me help.” There was no other chance of getting out of the cell, but if I joined the crew and proved my worth, they would have to let me stay on deck. As pirates, if I offered to help a cause to save the ship, they couldn’t refuse my service.
He hesitated, but he couldn’t stay still long. Safety came in numbers and he was unsure of how many strong the opposing force was. “Fine.” He agreed as he pressed a button and unlocked my cell. “But if you try to get away…”
My eyes came up to meet his. “I won-”
“…You’d better take me with you.”
I jumped up eagerly to join the fray above; this was a chance to prove myself. At the top of the stairs there was a weapons rack. I took a sword, some daggers, and Blaster gun for good measure.
The fight on deck was much worse than either of us had expected. The pirates on the ship were outnumbered by more than 3 times their amount.
“Its good you came!” The Captain called to us in between attacks. He was dashing, with long red dreadlocks tied back in a ponytail and dark coffee-colored skin. His eyes were very big, and a deep color of green. Above all, he didn’t look a day over 16, only a little bit older than me. He was a valiant fighter, but sadly outmatched.
It was 5 against 1 when I jumped in to help him, and we fought side-by-side, dodging the crushing blows and dealing them back two-fold. “Captain!” I shouted, as my sword hit another with a loud, clear ring. “I apologize, but I didn’t happen to catch your name!” The sword against mine was leaning dangerously toward my throat, and I finally managed to heave it off with a metallic sliding sound, just as he replied.
“Redbird,” he chuckled good-naturedly, parrying sword and bullet alike, letting nothing into his vital area. Through his fighting, I could see that although young, he was experienced in these situations. “Skull Redbird” he finished, smiling a deep and dashing smile.
I smiled back. “And what a pretty red bird you are.” I laughed. And threw a knife at a man behind him, planting it neatly in the center of the would-be attackers forehead. “Who is this attacking?”
“No idea” he shrugged. “I only just got back myself. I-” He stopped talking suddenly and shoved me aside, a rocket whizzing past my head.
“Thanks, that was a close one!”
“Don’t think were out of hot water yet, lass!” I jerked my head to face the direction he was looking in. The mast was falling, and fast, in our general direction.

Chapter 5 A Display of Power; The Element of Surprise.
“Well don’t just stand there!!” He yelled. “If we get caught under that, were dead!”
I searched for some way to escape. There was no way we could move fast enough to get out of the way. Then I spotted something. “There!” I pointed. “That gate! Help me get it open!” There was a small hole on the floor, covered by a metal grate. We dashed for it, and with all of our strength, tried to pull it free. Again, I would like to say that things happened differently than they did, but alas, the grate refused to budge.
The young Captain groaned beside me in defeat. “It’s no use!” he shouted over the creak of the falling mast. “It’s stuck tight!”
“There’s no other way!” I cried in panic. The huge mass of wood was nearly a foot away from our heads, but before I even realized what I was doing, I was snapping my arms up to meet it. For some strange reason, I was acting on instinct.
“Are you crazy?!?!” Skull Redbird gasped in shock. “That’s 2 tons of a solid wood metal combination!!”
With a sickening crunch the wood smashed against my hands. I was sure it was over. But all around me, I heard the sounds of surprise. Those fighting seemed to drop everything as a wave of silence fell upon everyone around me. The wood, not my bones was what had cracked. Skull had told me that it weighed so much and it was quite heavy, but seemed manageable. “2 tons?” I asked. “Were you exaggerating?”
“N- not at all” he breathed. “When we stole this ship, the mast was knocked over. It took 80 men to lift it.”
I lowered it down gently and turned to face the Captain. The men behind him were starting to get over the initial shock, they’re weapons raised in challenge. “Captain! Behind you!” I warned, and his sword came up, clashing with his attackers. As if on cue, the brawl around me continued.
I fought on, but wondered why I even opted to stay. I had a chance of figuring out the watch on my own, and could be gone before anyone knew what was coming. Double crossing had always been my forte, my best chance. So why was I still there? ********************
R3z paced, bathed in the light of wall-sized monitor. In the top left corner the screen glowed with many graphs and notes surrounding a photo. The rest of the wall was covered with surveillance screens of every type. The rest of the room was filled with many rare trinkets and curiosities, the shelves jam-packed with artifacts, but although there were many things to keep her attention, R3z was focused on one small screen. She chuckled softly. “Ah, nicely done Zero. I am afraid I have underestimated your abilities, but there is much to be improved on yet. What power lies dormant I wonder?” Behind her, the door creaked open and the dark shadow of a person entered the chamber. “R3z, what you asked has been done. We have moved this entire Gallery to another time and we are out of reach, for now at least.” “Are we secure from the inside?” she inquired with a lazy glance from the screen. “The Gallery of Time will never be completely unreachable, but the protection that is obvious may not always be what is really necessary.” The assistant smiled. “Are you leading me to believe that others can infiltrate the Gallery from within?” R3z’ good nature suddenly disappeared, replaced by a brooding frown. “No, but while I am in control now, others share my abilities. You seem to forget, Time belongs to no one. What is stolen shall always be returned. I still must find a successor or all that we have done will be for nothing.” He nodded. “You are wise as always, but you over-think things. It is all taken care of. The newest children are in for you to choose from. Maybe one will have the right qualifications. Is the sword in yet?” “No, not yet” she answered darkly. “But it’s no rush, during this mission she will build character. We just have to continue building our resources, grow in alliances, and very soon our goals will be achieved.” He began to walk out the door “There is no match to you R3z.” he announced in a parting laugh. “Your ambitions are second to none. But I wonder how far you will go. How many more people you will force that girl to kill before she cracks?” R3z just shrugged. “She likes it. That’s her nature. She wanted something new. She wanted to be superior, like I am.” She turned back to the monitor. “When people like her suffer, they seek to pass it on. I’m more worried about whether she can cut it. I’ve just recently noticed a change. It’s irritating, I need a liar and I need ruthlessness, but I wonder if I was wrong believing she was right for this job.” The assistant was long gone before she finished the sentence, but she never noticed. The biggest characteristic of R3z was always her self-centered attitude and twisted morals.

Chapter 6 Evasion’s End
I parried blows and cut all challengers down for what seemed like hours, but they just kept coming. It was like the other ship had and unending supply of troops. I sighed, the extensive length of the nonstop battle beginning to take its toll on my body. “Damn it!” I cursed. “What ever happened to the good old days of running away?” My opponent’s sword smashed onto mine with vigor again and again, slowly wearing me down. He seemed to know that with even a second’s rest, I would be good as new, but something else troubled me about these strange warriors almost as much as their relentlessness. The man’s sword hurtled down towards me, the sheer bulk of his physique enough to overcome many but I simply knocked it aside, lunging upward with my own weapon and ramming it through his overly large chest. His eyes were wide with shock and his towering body slumped to the ground with an audible smack. Unsurprised, I noted how, just like all the others, this man had not shed one drop of blood. Then, through the chaos and pandemonium a voice rang out and all those who were fighting us froze in their tracks. The voice, loud and commanding was a voice I knew all to well. Its familiarity was in the person behind it. The silence around us thickened, like it was trying to choke me. I felt awkward and panicked, like a little kid who’s just been caught stealing a cookie. It was then that she decided to speak. “I thought I’d find you here.” She announced triumphantly. “Wherever there are murderers and thieves, you seem to turn up just as they’re planning to score big.” She shook her thick, black, lustrous hair from her shoulders and began to take steps toward me, piercing me through with her dark searching eyes. “Talon.” I breathed. “That’s the name, happy to see me? I’m just so glad I found you!” she laughed. “Now I wont have to locate the sword myself! Hand it over and there won’t be a problem.” I smiled. “Sorry, I’d hate to burst your over-inflated, self righteous bubble, but as a matter of fact, I don’t have the sword.” I retorted darkly. “So get lost!” “Come on Zero, why would you lie to me like that?” Talon teased. “We are friends after all.” “But I’m completely serious! No joke, I don’t have it.” Her frustrations mounted and Talon closed in. “don’t you have any idea what you’ve gotten yourself into?” she hissed. “Why don’t you tell me? How many? How many people have to die before you finally get it? R3z is altering time in the worst ways and I can’t allow it. She seems to be just a collector, but she knows what she’s doing.” “The objects have to be removed.” I said simply. “They tip the balance of mortals to the wrong side of the scale. Humans cannot deal with certain privileges.” “Humans huh? Mortals? Remember when you used to be one?” she demanded furiously. “Oh wait, you still are!!!” Then she attacked with out even the slightest warning, waves of energy radiating from the fist that she punched with. My sword shattered under the immense power and I went flying. It was like Dragonball Z, only worse…. Much worse, and with one more kick, she sent me toppling over the railing.

Chapter 7 The Gifts and Curses of Death
Talon smirked. “That should buy some time,” she murmured to herself. “Troops, back to the ship!” she ordered. She walked up to Skull Redbird. “Excuse me, but may I please borrow the Pointer? This is important, the safety of all eras hang in the balance.” “The girl had it.” Redbird replied. “I was told that she stole it.” Talon smiled. You’re after money right? Maybe we can help each other…”
************************* When I woke up, my body ached. Everything seemed to hurt, especially my face where Talon had kicked me. The fall from the ship had been long but not nearly as unpleasant as the landing that had sent me back to the gallery. My whole insides felt jumbled and sick. I hated dying on a mission. In best conditions, it was uber horrible. Whoever said that death was painless lied. “Ahhhh…. My head” I groaned. “Does anyone have an aspirin?” I waited dumbly for an answer that was sure not to come. Instead, the dreaded monotone chant of R3z came into earshot. “You have failed me!” She sighed angrily, her strange accent seemingly sinister. “You had a job and you let your feelings get in the way!!!!! What have I told you!?!?” the rough disappointment clouding her usually aloof demeanor. “So what?” I huffed. “You’re just going to send me back anyway. You don’t even give me anything to go off of. You expect me to succeed on the small little wisps of information you want me to believe!” with great effort, I rose from the ground and brushed myself off. Waiting for R3z to come into focus, I stood my ground, cautious, but unafraid. As I expected, R3z strode out of nowhere, looking exactly how she was, dangerous. “I gave you one simple task!” she snapped. “All you had to do was find the location of the sword and get it if you could! It is no fault of mine that you are incompetent!” “Well, don’t bother to ask me how I feel after being kicked to kingdom come!” I screamed. “that would be way to kind for a selfish brat like you to even consider! I can’t help that she is stronger than me!” R3z stepped forward, placing herself just within my bubble, her face about an inch from mine. “you listen to me, and listen well!” she seethed. “No Bounty Hunter of mine will lose a fight to those Opposition pricks! You will go back there and get the sword, and you will pay the agent that kicked you back for that blow!” I recoiled in shock at this sudden outburst. R3z, as volatile as she had potential to be, had never lashed out at me before. True, I was a fairly new Agent, a novice of sorts, but I had been trained well and was still the Gallery’s strongest ally. “No, something must be wrong,” I thought. “R3z must be stressed over something.” The argument seemed hopeless, so I nodded my head in defeat. “fine, just send me now.” I sighed. She smiled, suddenly sweet as honey. “well let’s see… last I checked you were…FALLING.” R3z giggled dreamily. And with that one word, I was dropping through the darkness like a rock does when you throw it into the water. The last thing I heard was her laughter, maniacal and sinister, echoing through the room’s perpetual night. “Well put Zero.” She laughed when she was sure there was no one left to hear it. “If you will stand up to even me, there is no doubt you will be truly beaten by anybody. Although I could be wrong.” She murmured in delight.

Chapter 8 To the Death?
The time it took me to “Return” was both long and short, since there is no tangible limit on time. Though it seemed to take forever before I reached the place I was being rewound to, in reality I was there before even blinking. The actual timing of it all was less than a second. I appeared in midair and began to fall. I almost panicked until I saw the ship nearly a foot away. I sighed in relief. Luckily, that had been how I had gotten on to the ship in the first place. I grabbed a dangling rope and braced myself for the shocks of pain that soon ran through my arms. I had been falling so fast that stopping myself nearly dislocated both of them, but as I pulled myself up the rope slowly and painfully, it was clear that nothing had really been hurt.
************************************
Skull Redbird looked at the girl cautiously. “Alignment?” he asked in a dull, unenthusiastic voice. Talon answered instantly, barely thinking. “Good, if you were asking about which side I’m on. You?” “Neutral” Redbird answered. “I only do what is warranted by certain circumstances.” He looked at her as if repulsed, then continued. “Though I have always leaned towards a somewhat darker way of life. I prefer Evil.” Talon grimaced. “Well then, as pirates, you are under arrest for, well…piracy” She stated blandly, obviously having said it before many times. “I’m sure it’s presently a very serious crime, and it’s dangerous to have you out and about. We can either do this the easy way or the hard way.” She smiled as she lengthened her silvery fingernails to six inches long. “Take your pick.” ****************************************
With immense effort I threw myself onto the ship’s deck. “I think you have been here long enough, Talon. You should just give up and leave! You’re no match for me!” I yelled. She turned in my direction. “It doesn’t look that way.” She laughed. “Last time I checked it was you who went flying off the edge of the ship after one punch.” “I went easy on you.” I muttered. “That time didn’t count!! I get a retry!” “Whatever,” she laughed. “There’s not really much you can do now. The Captain was just about to offer his services to the greater good. I presume that I was more than persuasive enough, but if you want to try and make them think otherwise, then I think you should get a fair chance. Go ahead and try, but dude, don’t forget the part about stabbing them in the back afterwards.” Before I could even reply, Captain Redbird got a blazing looking his eyes. With a small spin, his body turned, bringing his sword along in a line with Talon’s throat. “You presume too much!” he whispered under his breath. And, considering what his day had been like and all the other things he might have said, he was nothing less than a gentleman. Although she stopped the blow easily, she was still somewhat taken aback, as though her efforts at being somewhat intimidating were lacking. “That was so not cool,” she sighed, losing her perfect composure. “As the good guy I, I- never mind!” and then attacked Skull Redbird. There was a loud crash as sword hit nails, and by the sliding screech of the two metallic weapons, one could tell that they were almost evenly matched. They went at it with amazing force, Talon swirling in a flurry of attempts to cut down her opponent. It went on for quite some time until finally, with another earsplitting screech of steel, the Captain’s weapon was knocked aside. The broadsword hit the floor with a clatter and skidded to a halt near the side of the ship. For the first time in his life, Skull redbird was shocked. Knowing he had lost the fight, he kneeled and awaited his death. Although he was a pirate, he was adhering to his own code of conduct, a behavior that set him apart from the rest.
Talon looked at him bitterly, she had hoped that he was a bit more lacking in honor. She knew that he was waiting for his head to roll, but through although she spoke and fought, Talon hated to kill. “I have no time for this,” she said continuing her front. “Your pride is wasted.” She raised her sword and brought it down with amazing speed and force…on his head. well i am not sure that i want this character to die yet. although if he did, Zero would be made the new captain according to thier customs. they would have a brawl to decide so it would go to the strongest on the ship. but i dont know. i kinda wanted him to die in a more shocking way.

I think that she should knock him out, and then toss him off the ship. they'll think he died like Zero did, but later he comes back?
