hmm.. there was some guy on the 'introduce yourself' topic that had that show on his top 5 Anime.
*nudge nudge* That would be me...Yuu Watase created a memorable epic with the series. I can find no weaknesses with the story, save that Inuyasha fans may be turned off of the concept of the "transported to world of the past", despite the fact that FY came out 6 years prior to Inuyasha. Each character, even the villians have extremely well fleshed-out characters, with strength of character development typically seen in shounen (a suprise, since this is shoujo) manga/anime. The characters, while having magic powers, are not so ridiculous as to commit "Dragonball Z syndrome", in which they fell even the strongest of opponents with a single blow (which unfortuanately is all too common in anime). But the conflicts are not what make the series- it is the ever-changing bonds between characters that we all love shojo for. Miaka's journey takes her to meet many new people, who all interact on and off screen, whose relationships with each other constantly change, creating strong 3-dimensional characters. This anime will make you cry, it will make you laugh, it will make you fall in love (or hate) with each and every character. I recommend this anime to anyone and everyone.
Edit: My favorite character? Chichiri, of course. Wise and strong, with a mask that makes everyone smile.
