She bit her lip. "Can I do anything for you in return?" She sincerely hoped she hadn't offended him--he did a marvelous job, even if he was a bit out of it. It was a very awkward moment.

"What? No. Of course not." He started to bob up and down and the miniature chair disappeared without warning. His hair swayed as he moved and confetti fell out of it like multicolored dandruff. It was strange, his movement; it was so confident, as if he didn't even need the cane he'd brought with him. Likely he didn't.

She beamed. Her smile was probably nowhere near as shiny as his was, but he was a Dentist, after all. "Oh, okay. Thanks again--you really are a magician!"

Mission accomplished, she skipped out of the tent. She would definitely come back if she ever needed to--this guy was a master!

Jabber wandered into the army of tents. They were all very gaudy and strange and looked like the sort of thing that would try and taste you. The biggest one she figured was likely the most important but didn't want to go inside because if the tents looked hungry, the actual dentist would probably unhinge his jaw and swallow her.

So she called from a good six feet away, "HALLOO! I accidentally threw my lamp at a puddle of mud and now there's mud inside him and it's pretty gross! Squaw cleanum lightbulb! Makeum heap shiny!"

She strummed her fingers in midair, waiting for a response.

Someone yelled and the Dentist poked his head out of his tent almost sideways, his hair only barely fitting through the tent's door, although some strands caught and sprang up when they pulled free like springs or rubber bands or rubber springs. "Halloo yourself!" he cried out. "You're facing the wrong way! That tent is full of elephants and cotton candy and other things that make your teeth ugly! Cotton candy is composed of sugar and elephants can crush your pretty little bicuspids into nothing!"

The Dentist stuck his hand out [reaching through his hair like his hand was on a safari and his hair was a jungle -- an orange, gravity-defying jungle] and waved before withdrawing into his tent, muttering something about kids these days! and mud is blasphemous! and squaw fetchum firewood!

The Dentist!

The little bulb nearly hurt himself, pushing into the crook of her elbow and twisting in the fabric of her jacket, planting himself much like some sentient seed. Judas knew where he was going, and he understood the possible danger that lurked ahead in the form of some massive crazy man. He stood straight, twisting and digging into his companion's arm; Verne carefully pulled him from her coat sleeve, shakily delicate now that she was frightened to hurt him further. The lamp child showed no fear of her touch, but only the steps they took towards the tent.

Verne strode nervously to the door of the tent, looking for somewhere to knock. She found nothing, and so [with a lamp trying to slide up her sleeve now] cleared her throat and called out, "Is there a, uh, Dentist in here?"

She admitted there was reason for Judas to be afraid, now that she saw every glint inside the tent.

A clatter and a crash and the Dentist was suddenly there, something that resembled a bear trap clamped around his leg [instead of the sharp metallic edges, however, it bore straight white teeth and a tongue]. He seemed slightly grumpy as if disturbed.

"Who taught you manners, young man!" he cried out, hopping with one foot rendered useless. His grin looked turned literally upside down, comically enough. His eyes squinted and then landed on the peeking Judas.

He took in a deep, long gasp.

"What..." he stuttered, "what-- has happened to this innocent th-- You! Here! Seat!" He waved frantically at a chair which wasn't there just minutes before, and moved about as if to gesture Verne over to it.

The Dentist!

She couldn't fathom how this Dentist functioned. He was ... exuberant, to say the least, and high-pitched like a young girl, and she wasn't sure if his talents were worth trusting. Judas, however, glowed a little, light sort of pouring out of the gash in his side, and he crawled slowly out of her sleeve. She took his lead and quietly sat in the chair, letting Judas onto the counter nearby.

The Dentist, hopping still and ignoring the cane he could easily use to help him limp about, stumbled towards the lamp and lady like some sort of intoxicated orange bear. He fell, caught himself on the counter, and then took up the lamplet with a flourish and held it to the light.

"Tsk," he said. "Tsk, tsk."

His eyes swept the tent, and then landed on some frightening mechanical appliance. His grin flipped again to a smile. He bounced and tripped towards it and pushed Judas into a small hole in the base of it. "This won't hurt, little thing! The Dentist promises!"

He hit a switch and the machine whirred and shook lightly. He waved his hands over the bulb -- suddenly, the broken piece had returned and Judas seemed as if he was never hurt. The machine turned itself off and the Dentist pulled Judas out.

"Um!" he said. "A bit stuck, see!"

The Dentist!

Judas wriggled and then with a sudden pop he burst from the machine, seeming rejuvenated and excited. He made his way around the counter surface and back onto Verne's arm, where he twisted and turned as if to show himself off. Verne couldn't fathom it.

Just couldn't fathom it.

"Thank you, I think," she said, brow furrowed, confused. "I'll, um, yes." She gestured towards the door, then left.
