 . . . . . .
"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." Davis could swear his heart started going faster the moment he heard Emily answer from the other side of the line. Controlling his nerves, he spoke. He tried speaking as relaxed as he could. "Hey! It's Davis. From the mechanic garage. How are you and your car doing?" he figured he would have to ask her about herself before he went on and asked her out right away. It would be improper. So far, Davis hadn't even told Carter that he was planning on asking his sister out. Sure, he probably should, but Davis preferred keeping it a secret in case things went wrong. Once Emily answered his fist questions, he finally went on to ask her her out. That was the main reason of the call anyways. "Hey,.. umm.. I w-was wondering if you're free today or some other day this week?" It was clear where this was conversation was going over to, and Emily knew perfectly well why Davis had asked to keep her number. The only hope was that she didn't find him lame enough to not go out with him.

Emily smiled when she heard Davis speak. He couldn't see it, but he could probably hear it in her voice that she was glad to be getting his call. "Oh, hey! I'm good, and the car's fine." She was worried for awhile that he wasn't interested, but as she was fairly new to the dating scene, she wasn't aware of the standard three day waiting period. Not until Amber filled her in of course. She could always trust her for good advice, especially when it came to guys, and dating. After a little while of what seemed to be polite, but otherwise idle chit-chat, they eventually came to what they both knew was the main reason for the call. He was asking her out, or at least attempting to. "Well, actually I kind of have this thing this afternoon" Realising how vague that sounded, and not wanting to run the risk of making him think she was making up an excuse because she wasn't interested, Emily quickly went on to elaborate a little. "A friend and I are helping run a bake sale..." She had become slightly distracted when Amber made her way onto the porch and was trying to silently signal her to ask him something. "It's just a small event....At the local animal shelter...If you wanted to come hang out or, something..? If not, it's okay." Judging by the way her friend rolled her eyes and slumped her head in defeat, Em hadn't done a very good job of interpreting the message. There was no way of fixing it, but she wasn't that bothered by it. Besides kind of liking him and wanting to get to know him better, Emily had other intentions for wanting to hang out with Davis. Ever since she had seen that phone at the mechanic's garage she had had her suspicions about him, and she figured it was the least conspicuous way of getting information.

 . . . . . .
"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." At first, Davis thought that Emily wasn't as excited as he was about the phone call, but just a few seconds in the conversation he happily realized his assumption had been wrong. Emily seemed just as happy as he was about this phone call. When he finally got to the point of the conversation, he felt a big hit on his heart when Emily pretty much told her she was busy. At first it truly seemed like she was merely making an excuse so not to meet up with Davis, but after elaborating a bit more on the situation, everything seemed more truthful. "Oh, that's pretty sweet." he said that intentionally because of the sweets of the bakery but also because it was pretty cool. It was his dorky side coming out making puns. It just sort of came out without realizing. "Hmm,... sure I can go. " Maybe it wouldn't be a date but at least he could go and help her out by buying some cookies. Plus, this way he could demonstrate to her that he still had interest in her. "Oh, you must be really busy right now huh? I think I should hang up and let you continue your work. See you later!" he said confidently and hanged up right after her. Davis was actually quite impressed with himself. He had managed to maintain a phone call without getting too nervous. He just hoped that he hadn't ruined it by actually accepting the offer for the bake sale. Being a nervous wreck, Davis began having doubts in his mind. Wait! What if she just said that to be polite? What if she was just turning me down?! Nooooo! Why do I always have to over think stuff! now he was unsure. For a couple of hours, he was not sure if he should really go or not, but at last he had made up his mind and decided to go. There was nothing to lose except maybe Emily's interest.

"Great! I'll see you there" After she hung up, Emily and Amber headed back inside to the kitchen. As they resumed their baking, she told her friend all about the phone call. Amber was pretty persistent to know all the details, even though Em insisted there was nothing to really tell. The two girls continued to talk and laugh for a couple of hours while they mixed, baked, frosted and packaged away all their sweets. At the end of it all they were feeling a little exhausted. Em wanted to sit and rest for a few minutes, but there was no time. They still had to transport everything from the kitchen to Amber's car so they could get it to the animal shelter, and they were already late. Just as they were arriving, everyone else was finishing setting up the rest of the stalls and attractions. There were a few other food and drink stalls set up and even a little bouncy castle for the little children. As well as an area for a few of the shelter animals so people could interact with them, and hopefully a few would get adopted. That was one of the main reasons the whole event had been planned. It seemed to be working out quite well too, as quite a few people had shown up. Fortunately the staff parking had been reserved for the people helping run the fundraiser, so the girls wouldn't have to walk far from the car. Amber pulled into one of the closest parking spots she could find, and the girls proceeded to unload their baked goods from the car to their designated stall. "Let's hope we baked enough sweets for everyone!" Amber chuckled as she came back from locking the car. They both occupied the stall together, one would deal with the money while the other handled the food, but occasionally they would take it in turns to go on a quick ten to twenty minute break. Amber had just left to start hers, leaving Emily to keep running things on her own, but she didn't mind since it wasn't particularly busy.

 . . . . . .
"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." Davis had other things to do before going to the animal shelter, so he at least didn't have the thought going around his head all day. By the time he had to leave, he had just arrived home from buying some groceries. He looked at the time and realized he should start getting ready. Taking a quick refreshing shower, Davis changed into a pair of jeans, white shirt, and put on his black jacket (what he is wearing in the picture). Of course no glasses or nerdy regular self. Just Davis the mechanic in regular normal people clothes. He made sure he had his wallet and his phone with him. Once he checked that, he walked out of his apartment, locked the door, and then got on his truck to drive to the animal shelter. He could tell it was sort of a big thing going on seeing how there were quite some people and almost no parking space. I guess I'm walking. he thought as he finally managed to find a spot about a block and a half away from the shelter. Once he arrived, he looked around everywhere. There were lots of things going on, and all of it for the benefit of adopting an animal from the shelter. It was nice to see that all this people care. Just looking at the animals made Davis really happy. He would adopt one if he didn't leave in an apartment. Pets of all kinds were prohibited, except fish. A couple of girls looked his way, checking him out as he made his way around. Being as naïve as always when it came down to girls, Davis didn't even realize it. Instead, he just kept walking. Either way the main reason he had come was to see Emily. I can't see the bake sale anywhere. he thought sighing. He kept walking around, looking at the animals they had so that people could visit. There was a really nice male german Shepard that caught Davis's eyes, but there was nothing he could do about it sadly. He hadn't even realized it but he was really close to the stand where Emily and her friend were at. Standing at 6'1", Davis wasn't that hard to find, especially with his physique appearance.

Amber had come back from her break a little early, carrying two small bags of kettle corn she had brought for the both of them to snack on. While she was away, Emily had managed to sell three boxes of cookies and a cake. She had been so focussed on making the sales she hadn't even noticed Davis arrive until Amber pointed him out to her. "Who's that cute guy over there?" She asked as she nodded over in his direction. Em glanced over and was surprised to find she recognized him. "Who? Oh, I think that's Davis" At her reply, Amber almost chocked on her mouthful of kettle corn. "That's Davis?! Wow...Well what are you waiting for, go talk to him. I can handle things here" Emily nodded, she knew better than to argue with her friend, then started to head over. She was feeling a little nervous since this would be the first time she would be talking to him in a casual setting. As she was approaching him she noticed his attention was drawn towards one of the dogs. A German Shepard to be exact. "He's cute isn't he?" Her voice was soft so as not to startle him, but clear enough for him to hear her over the small crowd of people that were gathered to see the animals. Emily stopped walking and stood a little off to the side, she didn't want to be too close or too far away that it made things awkward. "His names Casper, you can go into the pen and meet him if you want." Em knew a little about the shelter and the animals there because she spent some of her time volunteering there. The dogs where her favourite animals to work with, she enjoyed taking them for walks and training them new tricks. Mostly just basic commands like sit, or stay and to come when called. People were usually drawn towards the dogs that were already at least partially trained.

 . . . . . .
"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." Davis had been quietly admiring the dogs, taking pictures of them with his phone when suddenly a familiar voice broke through the loud noise of the crowd. He turned around to look at Emily. A shy smile spreading through his lips. "Oh, hey. Yeah, he is." his attention returned to the young shepard. It looked to be happily be running around its pen playing with a ball along with other dogs. "Casper. I wish I could adopt him, but my apartment has a strict rule of no pets." He would go pet him in a bit, but he would rather wait until he was about to leave to do that. Otherwise he would be left smelling like dogs for the rest of the time he was there. Again returning his attention to Emily, he spoke once again. "How's the bake sale going? I couldn't find you so I sort of stayed here." He admitted with a nervous shy laugh. "Are there any cupcakes left I could buy? I was sort of looking forward to them." he admitted too.

"Oh, that's too bad." Emily pouted slightly when he told her about no pet rule at his apartment. She had been wanting a pet for herself for awhile. More specifically a dog. Unfortunately she didn't have the time to really take care of one. She had considered getting a cat, but her father was allergic. Even though their circumstances were different, she understood a little of how he felt. "I'd take them all home with me in a heart beat if I could, but sadly that's not possible." She chuckled slightly. She wasn't feeling as nervous any more, partly because she had noticed he was a little shy himself. And for some reason that was comforting in a way. When Davis mentioned that he wasn't able to find their bake sale stall, it made her giggle a little. Although she tried to keep a straight face so it didn't seem like she was laughing at his expense. "It's just over there" She said turning slightly and pointing to a stand that was just a few feet away from them. "I think we have a few left. Although they seemed to be quite popular. Along with the cookies." Emily slowly started walking back to the stall. "I'm glad you could make it, by the way. I was a little worried you might not come" As soon as they made it over to the stall, Amber walked out from behind it and took the first opportunity she got to introduce herself. "Hey, I'm Amber. You must be Davis, right? I've heard quite a bit about you. It's nice to finally meet you." After she got through with the introduction, she side stepped over to Emily slightly and pretended to whisper something in her ear. Though it was quite obvious she fully intended on him hearing what she said. "You didn't tell me he was this cute!"

"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." Davis blushed lightly and looked away while Emily and her friend spoke. Davis was not used being called cute so it clearly made him feel a little flustered, but not in a bad way. He still looked like a tough guy. Clearing his throat he looked at all the things at the bake stall. Everything looked quite delicious. Davis did have a weakness for sweets so he knew he was going to buy quite some stuff from this place. "Everything looks great, but my budget only allows me to buy just a couple of things. I think I'll have 3 of those cupcakes, 5 of those cookies, and a slice of that cake." He really did have an appetite, but he usually burned them all up at the gym, which would explain why he was so toned and lean. He smiled at the girls as he took out his wallet ready to take out the money. Davis was only waiting for them to tell him how much it would be. "You know, I think it's really great you're helping out with the animal shelter and all. You're a good girl, aren't you?" he teased with a smirk. This side of his personality was completely sincere. Davis has always been the teasing type and at times at the garage, his co-workers have called him out on being the sarcastic type too. It sort of fitted with his bad-boy appearance and why most of the women who happened to come to the garage came back and asked for Davis.

Emily and Amber started giggling quietly when they saw the light blush on his cheeks. Then her friend started whispering in her ear again, although this time she kept it a secret, only Em could hear. She seemed a little surprised by something Amber said and gave her a quick jab in the ribs with her elbow. It wasn't a hard jab, so it didn't hurt, but she definitely felt it. "Hey! I was just kidding" Once they were through kidding around, they turned their attention back to Davis. It seemed he wanted to make a purchase. Em quickly added up the cost of everything he wanted to buy in her head. "That'll be $11.50" She stated while Amber set to work putting everything in a bag for him. She was all set to hand it over in exchange for the money. "Oh attractive and he has a sense of humour. Nice. Seems like a keeper, Em" Amber smirked, and winked slyly at Emily, who just smiled and rolled her eyes. "Well, I think I can handle it here, so you two can go and enjoy the rest of the afternoon." Em looked at Davis and waited to see what he might want to do. A few of the other stalls had already started to pack up, but that was mainly because they were all sold out, or the people running them had other things they needed to do. The fundraiser was still set to run for at least another hour or so.

"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." Davis chuckled at the two girls as they spoke as he even wasn't standing right in front of them. He found them to be acting very cute in a shy manner. He just smiled and waited for them finish talking so he could pay up. "Keep the change. 50 cents can make a difference." he said with a smirk as he handed Emily $12. Davis couldn't help it but laugh a little more at Amber's next comment. He thought she was pretty friendly and cute so he didn't really mind her. "It's alright, really. If you are busy we can leave it for another time. If you're still willing to hang out with me." he said rubbing the back of his head while smiling lightly at Emily. "Have you girls eaten anything yet?" he asked genuinely curious. He figured that they had been so busy with the bake sale and setting up everything that they probably skipped a decent lunch at least. He wouldn't mind bringing them something. After all, they were doing something very nice for the community so he could help them out with at least that. Plus, if they did want to eat something, maybe Davis could use is as an excuse to go buy something with Emily.

Emily took the $12 and put it into the ice cream container they used to hold the money. "Oh my, he's generous too? Pinch me, I think I'm dreaming" Amber joked in response to Davis paying them an extra 50 cents. Seeing her friend acting so casual with Davis was good, she was glad they seemed to be getting along well. Normally anyone new Em met would be receiving the third degree from Amber, but it seemed he was okay by her standards. It probably had a lot to do with how good-looking he was. "Oh don't worry. It's not a question of if she wants to hang out with you, just when." Amber reassured him. As the subject of food was brought up, the two girls shook their heads. "The only thing I've eaten since we got here was that bag of kettle corn" "Same here" Amber agreed. "I guess we were so busy with the sale we kind of forgot."Fatal Striker Mind is drawing a blank, sorry.

"And I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be." "That's no good. I've got an idea. How about I bring you some food, but in exchange you have to go on a date with me?" Davis was making it more explicit this time by actually calling it a date. He was trying to be more bold this time so it appealed with his appearance. Just as he spoke, his phone began ringing. He didn't want to answer but he realized it was from Carter. "Uh, excuse me a bit." he told Emily and Amber before he stepped away a bit to speak. He and his friend started talking about how there was a new game in stock at the store and how they had to go buy it now before it was too late. Naturally, Davis wanted it as well as Carter. "Alright, then meet you there in an hour. Yeah, I can go pick you up. See ya then." he hanged up then and returned to talk to the ladies. "So? Have you decided? You won't hurt my feelings if you say now." he teased. Davis held his phone in his hand, but the screen light was on since he had just received a text message. It clearly said in big letters that it was from Carter. Davis, however, wasn't putting attention to his phone. [OOC: It's alright. I'm sort of too xD]

Emily was all set to answer him until the light from his phone caught her eye, drawing her attention down to the screen where she saw in big clear letters Carter's name. Her gaze didn't linger long, there was no mistaking it was his name, but she didn't want anyone to notice that she had seen it. "Uh...Amber. Can I talk to you for a minute?" Amber tried to put up a protest but was swiftly dragged away by Em. She had taken hold of Amber's hand and lead her a few meters away until she was sure they were out of ear shot from Davis. "What the hell is going on?" She didn't answer right away as she was taking awhile to process things in her head. "This might not make a lot of sense right now, but just hear me out, okay?" As she was talking she made sure not to look in his direction so she wouldn't tip him off that they were talking about him. Emily went on to explain to Amber everything that she knew. From the broken cell phone, right up to when she saw her brother's name come up as a contact on his phone when he received the message. "So what you're telling me is that, that really hot mechanic over there is actually a giant nerd and he's your brother's best friend? That doesn't exactly make a lot of sense Em. But let's say it was true, what are you going to do about it?" Em shrugged her shoulders and sighed. "Well, we can't just keep him waiting, come on."Once they were finished talking the girls headed back over to Davis. They were smiling and laughing along the way so it didn't seem like anything was wrong. "Sorry about that, just some important girl talk" Amber glanced at Emily, she was curious to see what she might say. Without giving it too much thought, in case she ended up talking herself out of it, Em spoke whatever first came to mind when she thought about his request. "Okay, I will go on a date with you."
