Sashay Scarves

I can't find a pattern that best fits the way we made these, but I will post a link to a video for a Sashay scarf when I find one that's close.

I was very fortunate to find a "one day online sale" at Herrschners.com. All Sashay yarn was 99 cents and I was able to purchase all the yarn we needed to make the scarves.

My daughter and I made 24 Sashay scarves for Mother's Day for our church. I'm so thankful I had a ten year old who wanted to help make them.

Supplies ~
Worsted Weight Red Heart Super Saver yarn
Hook size E
Polyfill
Scissors
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Notes ~
I made one using maroon colored yarn and then because it was for my niece, I embroidered it with her college's lettering. The one thing I did do wrong was I twisted the chain and didn't keep it straight before I connected it. cat_emo I was in a hurry to get it finished before she drove away. cat_eek I don't even know if she actually liked it or not because I handed it to her as she was leaving to catch a flight back to school. cat_sad Anyway, I hope she did. *crosses fingers*

~Penguin Pillow~

I used some left over stashes of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight yarn in white, black and yellow with a size E hook. I didn't like the look of the crocheted eyes, so I used some small black eyes that I had bought from Hobby Lobby. I also used faolon's pattern for the feet.

The pillow turned out quite small: 9 1/2" wide & 24" around. I guess I was crocheting tighter than I thought I was. lol.

After watching the video and seeing the direction of the flippers Sabrina Sun attached to her pillow, I was curious to see what penguin's wings really look like. After seeing several pics of them online, I decided to make the longer edge of the flipper face towards the top of the pillow and the shorter edge face the bottom.

~Vintage Christmas Ornaments~

Details: Following the pattern in the link below, I made two ornaments and then sewed the edges together leaving a 2-2 1/2 inch opening on either side(see pics). The little pocket is great for hiding a tiny gift like cash or a gift card. I also thought of making some more ornaments by lightly stuffing them and completely sewing the edges together to give them a more 3D look. This is a very easy pattern.

Supplies:
~I used half of each of 3.5 oz worsted weight skeins of red and white yarn to make 6 ornaments which I sewed together to make the items pictured above.
~H size hook
~needle
~scissors

Details:
This pattern was intended for sport weight or 2 ply yarn. I used worsted weight yarn and it ended up weighing in at over 5 lbs. cat_eek It's a good thing it was always meant for my hubby, who loves the size and weight of it. For me this was a more difficult pattern to learn. One reason is the pattern was first published in 1915 and it took me a little while to figure out what it was saying. It could just be me though. Enjoy. heart

~ 17 - 5 oz. skeins (85 oz) of "I Love This Yarn" Autumn Stripe worsted weight yarn
~ J hook

Description:
This was a kit that I purchased from Lion Brand Yarn. They don't offer the kit anymore, but they do have a free download for the pattern and a list of the items that was included in the kit. It was fairly easy. You work with 4 strands as you go, so the only struggle was keeping the yarns from tangling. I love the pattern and want to make one with my own color choices. cat_biggrin
