Ryan nodded, leaning against a nearby shelf that suprisingly didn't collapse. He handed the crowbar to alice, feeling almost naked without its presence. Don't be stupid, he told himself, it's right there. Not like she's going to run off with it.
That was when he heard the slight 'whumf' of the officer falling, and saw some dust rising in a cloud. He bit his tongue in an effort not to yell, seeing the tip of Cybil's boot around the isle's shelving unit. He reached over to tap Alice on the shoulder, pointing.

Alice was very cautiously about to open the fridge door, weather it was jammed or not didnt matter, but she didnt want to go reaching her hand in, and touching weird things, wen suddenly she heard the crash of something, and a tap on her back. letting out a small squeak, she spun around, heart beating rapidly. "Oh god, is that...?" Alice asked, praying it wasnt the officer from befor, she had seemed nice, and at least normal. She swallowed hard, and handed Ryan back the crowbar, and hurried over to Cybil's side, gasping slightly at the state she was in. "I thought she had taken medication for this." She whispered.

"So did I," Ryan mumbled as he shuffled over to join Alice and Cybil, one eyebrow raised. He paused, then dropped down to one knee painfully, before noticing something like black smoke crawling along the ground. His internal radar going off, the man craned his neck to see backwards, behind him- it was coming from the open fridge door! The mist writhed, curling around the fallen officer and then focusing on the other two, seeming to pay special attention to Ryan's wounded leg. Not noticing, the author thought for a second about closing the door, but then it'd be a pain to pry it open again if they needed to search it.
He turned back to Cybil, the blood on his face seeming to darken his eyes and make deep circles around them for a second, but the expression was gone. "Another puzzle piece," he mused, and glanced up at Alice as if asking what to do.

ALice looked over at the fridge, that wasnt good a sign, but Cybil needed to be tended to first.
"She probably was attacked by something." Alice said as she bent down to examine the fallen officer further.
"Mrs. Cybil, are you awake, or alive?" Alice whispered gently, giving her shoulder a light shake.

Ryan nodded in agreement, sighing slightly. "I'm worried about what might have happened before... Yannow- she seemed so weak, then. And the darkness seems to spread rapidly- what is even the medicines don't work any more?" He paused, wishing he didn't write horror novels. He could so easily see how this could go wrong and deadly...

Cybil's eyes couldn't get a grip on anything in particular, but she could see two hazy forms leaning above her, and they were making sounds...strange, yet familiar sounds. Oh, God, she thought, her breathing increasing. What if they're monsters? I can't defend myself if I can't see, and I'm weak enough already.
Suddenly, she blinked, and the two figures came into focus. It was the two younger people from before...what were their names again...?
"R-ryan...? Alice...?" she choked out, her voice raspy and strained. "What...why are... you here...?"

"I should ask the same question of you," Ryan murmured, relieved that she was alive at least. "Are you okay? What happened to you?" He batted some of the black smoke away from his leg and Cybil's, accidentally breathing some of it in and coughing violently, head spinning.

Cybil shook her head. "N-nothing. I'm fine." she said, struggling to sit up. She winced and put a hand to her stomach, her face screwed up in pain.

"You sure, Cybil?" Ryan asked, after his coughing had subsided. "This mist is really getting obnoxious. I wish we were in my apartment..."

Cybil nodded slowly, breathing heavily through her nose, as she sat up shakily and leaned against the refrigerator for support. "I... I need... to tell you something," she said softly.
She looked down and took a deep breath, also getting a head-knocker of a whiff from the air, just like Ryan did. After the coughing subsided, she looked straight into Ryan's eyes and offered a sad smile. "... I'm pregnant," she admitted.

"You're... pregnant?" Ryan repeated, stupefied, and then frowned deeply. "Man, officer- I mean- damn. You shouldn't be exposing yourself to this kinda stuff, much less the little guy and/or girl growin' inside of you!"
Well, hello plot twist, he thought to himself.

Cybil flinched at Ryan's harsh tone, and lowered her eyebrows in embarrassment. "I didn't have a choice," she said, looking away. "There wasn't anyone else to go investigate, and Tracchio - my boss - wouldn't give in. He didn't care that I was pregnant. He just said to go."

"Sorry to hear tha', Cybil..." Ryan sighed, shaking his head in disbelief. He sighed, though- "Come on- I didn't mean to be so harsh, yannow... But we should really try gettin' going. It's gotta be bad for your kid, breathing in that black mist 'n stuff..."
He paused, offering a hand to help her stand. "You can use my crowbar like a cane if you need to..."
