Chapter 48: Information Leaks
Esined woke up in a panic. “Where is she?!” Her sister left and Esined was worried sick about her. But she still went downstairs to breakfast.
“You shouldn’t worry so much.” Lehcar waved her fork at Esined. “She’s fourteen, she can handle herself.”
“How would you know?” she snapped.
“I just do.” Lehcar put her index finger to her head. “Call it animal
instinct, I don’t know.”
“I say we go look for her!” Alegna said as she swallowed her food. “Come on!” Alegna and Esined stood up.
“Hey!” Lehcar shouted. “I’m still eating!” The two girls started out the door. Esined turned around. Lehcar stuffed the rest of her food in her mouth and ran after them.
They walked into every store and house in the area. Esined was getting extremely upset. The three girls walked by the docks, Esined went up to a man moving boxes.
“Excuse me,” she asked him, clearing her throat softly, “Have you seen my sister? She’s sh…”
“Look missy,” the man told her. He was large and very gruff. “I’d like to help but I don’t have the time. See that ship?” He pointed to a ship coming in to port. Esined nodded.
“Well, we have to prepare for its arrival. Someone highly important is on board.”
“A very powerful person?” Esined asked, gaining new interest into what eh man was saying.
“Yeah. I wasn’t supposed to say anything," the man's voice lowered as he leaned in to get close to Esined, "But everyone is saying the Great Ruler Ynar is coming. Here! Of all places! Can you even believe?”
“No,” Esined murmerred softly as she ran off. Her heart was beating high in her throat. She couldn’t find the others. The streets were too crowded with people hoping for a glimpse of Ynar. Among these people was little Einahpets.
“Hello Esined! Isn't this exciting? I bet Ynar has been all over the world and…” Esined grabbed the girl and covered her mouth.
“Careful!” Esined whispered harshly. “I can’t explain at the moment, but my friends and I don’t like Ynar and we have to stay inconspicuous. In other words, don’t do anything that might bring attention to us. This means talking. Got it?”
Einahpets nodded. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“It’s fine.” She grabbed the girl’s arm. “Let’s go find the others!”
Heh...this is where I begin to like Lehcar as a character a bit more. I don't know why, but she gets random in this part.
