Nerus watched as the girl caught the pendant and observed it, turning it a few times. As he had figured, she wasn't able to open it. He sighed and looked up at her when she asked what it was.

"I don't really know what it is," he admitted truthfully, "I don't know anything about where it came from, what's inside it, or anythign at all. The only thing I know is that I've had it on me since... I don't remember, It's just always been there."

The girl sat down, obvious frustrated at the pendants conundrum, but Nerus didn't really care. No one knew anything about the pendant or how to open it, and he never expected to find someone who would. He looked at the girl again when she said that he was dead, but he did exist.

"Can you really be sure of that?" he asked methodically.

Akane listened quietly, then slowly glanced down towards Kuro. The cat tilted his head back, staring curiously up at her. "...he exists," she said after a moment. "I can be sure." Gently, she took the kittens paw between two of her fingers and set it on her arm. Then she slowly began dragging it down across her skin, leaving five long gashes in her pale skin.

They began bleeding, and she silently watched the blood trickle down, before lifting her head to face Nerus again. "If he didn't exist, how could he inflict bodily harm?" she asked, locking her red eyes within Nerus'. For her, it was impossible to think that the man before her didn't exist. Simply impossible. He was there, talking to her. She could touch him. He could hand her things and take them back. He could talk and speak his mind. Therefore, he existed.

Nerus observed the girl as she picked up her cat. He wasn't sure what she was doing, but he didn't really care. She was beginning to annoy him with her constant insitance. She claimed to know the truth about his own existence, but she had nothing with which to really prove it, and so he was not satisfied. He had grown to expect the feeling, and was mostly indifferent towards it. He sighed and watched her some more, as she drew the cats claws accross her own skin. She asked him how harm could be inflicted if existence was not there.

"Well," he began slowly, "if he can harm you, then maybe the both of you actually exist, but as for me, maybe I alone am part of someone's imagination. I can't say for sure whether or not I truely exist, and frankly I doubt it, if I did exist, the would be something to show it right?"

Akane glanced back down to her arm, listening to the reply Nerus gave. Again, he just kept on insisting he wasn't really there. She frowned, closing her eyes for a moment. Kuro had leaned forward, licking the place on her arm where he'd been made to scratch her. The cat didn't understand what was going on.

After a moment, Akane finally looked up again. "Well then..." she said quietly, extending her arm towards him. "Can you harm me? If you can, then you exist. But if you can't, I guess you really don't." But she knew he'd be able to. Every other ghost she'd met had been able to harm her. How could he be any different?

"I could revive you, if you gave me time to figure out how," she added softly. "Would you believe you're here then? If you had a real body?"

Nersu looked at the woman as she spoke. He observed her cat breifly then turned his attention back to her. She was still being rather insistant, but he couldn't understand why. At her question, Nerus said nothing, but stood up. He unsheathed his sword and slashed at the woman. However; his sword merely phased through the girl and her cat, leaving both of them completely untouched. He sheathed his sword and looked to her.

"I guess I was right then," he said with a sigh, "at least according to your standards; seeing as how I wasn't able to harm you."

Nerus sword had not been made to phase through the girl by his own accord, it did that on it's own, and thus far, even though he could use it masterfully, he had never once encountered anything that it did not pass through, other than it's own sheath. He felt it matched him perfectly, since it completely lacked contact with the real world. Nerus completely missed the girls question about revival.

Akane just stared right at him, not moving as the blade hit her, though she was fully expecting to to slice her open. Even if it chopped off her arm, she'd be able to fix it. So, she jsut sat perfectly still. However, it went through her. She blinked, then tilted her head back as she stared up at him. For the first time, she looked confused.

It hadn't cut her? How was that possible? She'd never encountered anything like that. "...You try it. With your hands, not with your weapon," she muttered. She was stubborn when she wanted to be. That much was obvious. She stood so she was facing him, holding Kuro in one arm, her other one extended towards him. It was still bleeding heavily, but she ignored it.

She waited to see if he'd take up her offer, but he said nothing about it. She just frowned to herself, ears flattened back as she watched him.

As Nerus observed the girl's reaction, for the first time he saw a look of confusion on her face. Apparently she couldn't understand what he had just done, or perhaps why she hadn't been harmed. Nerus let out a sigh, wondering why the girl was bothering to be so persistant. He turned his attention to her cat again, although he wasn't sure why, but looked back to her when she told him to use his own hands.

"You just don't quit do you?" he said indiferently, "I suppose there's a reason for that, but didn't curiosity kill the cat?" he asked while looking at the girls cat, not really aware of his apparent sarcasm.

After making his remark he placed his hand on her scratched arm and stopped momentarily. It occurred to him that this was the first time he had ever touched a living being, and the feeling intrigued him slightly. He was also slightly intrigued by the fact that there was feeling, as he hadn't been expecting it. She felt, somewhat warm. It was an interesting sensation and, though only only for a brief moment, the thought that this girl might be right crossed his mind, but disappeared quickly.

ll spazzie-chan, what ever happened to Koichi and everyone? O.O :sorry i haven't been here in a while; i've been so buisy, i've barely been able to come on for more than 5 minutes: ll

Meghan sat on a branch of the massive tree, having appeared there out of slight laziness to climb up the bark. Too much of a hassle to both her and Sora. All the same, she sat there with her back against the trunk, one leg dangling off the branch and the other bent close enough to her that the only limp part of her arm- which extended to rest upon her knee- was her wrist. She didn't make to much noise, being rather still as though she were just a statue, staring up at the sky.

She felt the pang of guilt somewhere in the back of her head, but it lasted no more than a moment. Why would she feel guilty? Because this reminded her of something? She felt herself laugh rather softly, a short and rather doubting laugh; remember what? What was there to remember now? Everything had changed, and there was nothing she could do about it; the worst thing was, that most of the events hadn't been to her advantage, but rather Sora's.

She let her eyes lower some, still looking at the sky, though it was just above the tops of the trees. She looked, and felt, rather sad and slightly betrayed, though she knew it was herself that had betrayed everyone else. She couldn't blame them if they never wanted to see her ever again. She felt her muscles tense some as she sighed to herself, leaning her head back until she felt the trunk against it, her eyes closed. "Why?" she whispered to herself.

Akane just shrugged her shoulders. Of course curiousity killed the cat. She had nearly been killed several times already. Her body was covered in scars, most noticably the one she'd shown him that was on her side. But she didn't seem to learn. Right now, she'd torn her own arm open, and was asking Nerus to make it worse. There wasn't really much sense in that but, the way she saw things, it was worth it.

Her dark red eyes followed as he set his hand upon her arm, and she waited silently for him to do something. However, he didn't. He just paused, doing nothing at all. So she frowned lightly, then glanced back up at him. "You aren't.. going to?" she asked softly. "I can feel you touching my arm. That's something already, isn't it?"

Nerus pulled his hand away from the girls armand towards himself. The new feeling was somewhat surprising and he wasn't quite sure how to respond to it. He looked at her briefly, then to his own hand, which still held a lingering feel of the girls warmth. Although he wasn't sure how to respond, he wasn't quite ready to change the way he thought about things. It had probably only been some wierd fluke.

"I..I don't quite know," he admitted, unsure about how to interpret what he had felt.

He reached out and touched her arm again. The warm feeling was there again, but it didn't feel quite so unusual as the first time, leading Nerus to believe that it had been some sort of fluke. He pulled his hand away again and sighed, looking down at the ground.

Akane eyed him curiously, her flattened ears finally starting to perk towards him, just the slightest bit. She simply stared for a moment, not moving at all. She was confused. Why did he pull back without doing as she'd requested? As she watched, he slowly reached out again, and once more, drew back a moment later.

"...what's wrong?" she asked quietly, stepping towards him and looking up at his face. Was he having doubts now? Reluctant to admit he really did exist? She just stared, then slowly reached out with her non injured hand, touching his arm now with her fingertips. Kuro had scrambled onto her shoulder, staring at Nerus silently. Unlike Akane, the kitten was deathly cold, but that was to be expected...

Nerus observed a look of curiosity on the girls face, perhaps curiosity about his own actions. He was a little curious himself, still not entirely sure what to make of the what he had felt. The warmth was something new to him, and he didn't know what it meant. He had felt himself before of course, but he had always been cold, and he was so used to it that he couldn't really tell many other feelings. And yet, when he had touched this girl, he had felt warmth. The girl reached out and touched him this time, but he pulled away, a little discomforted by the unusual warmth.

"So," he began, stuttering a little, "what does it mean, when someone is warm?" he asked reluctantly.

Akane withdrew her hand after he'd pulled away, letting it simply remain half raised between them. Her ears twitched, then perked a little further. "What does... it mean?" she echoed quietly, then fell silent, thinking to herself. She wasn't sure how to explain. No one had ever asked her before. She found it a little odd that he was acting this way from touching her. But then again, she herself had a strange fascination with warmth. She was always surrounded by death, her previous ghost companion, who'd deserted her for someone else, and Kuro, the dead kitten who sat upon her shoulder. Both were cold, so she loved warmth, since it wasn't often she found someone who gave off warmth who was willing to stay around her.

But, Nerus was cold as well. She could feel it. He was a ghost, giving off no amount of heat. "It means they're alive," she finally said. "Have you not.. touched a living person before?" She paused, then slowly reached out again, hesitantly taking old of his hand. "You can feel that I'm warm, so I exist. And... I can feel that you're cold, so you also exist..." She blinked, shifting her gaze from their hands to his face. "...right?"

Nerus watched the girl while he waited for her to respond. Apparently his question was the cause of some confusion on her part. He looked to her cat again, then back to the girl who seemed to be thinking his question over rather deeply. Was it really that difficult a question? Nerus wasn't sure he knew that, but the girls seemed to think it a difficult question. Nerus was slmost startled when she finally spoke a reply;

"No, I haven't touched a living person before," he admitted reluctantly, "I usually tried to avoid people as they seemed to avoid me." He looked at her when she told him that he was cold; "I'm cold? I never really noticed," he said, "but if to be warm is to be alive, then to be cold is to be dead right? And what is death if not the end of life? And is not to be alive to exist, and therefore to be dead to not exist?" he asked rather metaphorically.

Akane fell silent again, still gripping his hand lightly. Her other was still spilling blood, the crimson liquid drizzling down her arm and dripping to the ground. "Living people... avoid me too," she admitted with a faint smile. Then she quieted once more, listening to him continue. She turned what he'd said over in her head a few times, making sense of it. "...no," she said after a pause. "You can exist after death. Do you see Kuro?" The kitten's ears twitched as he heard his name, his head turning to face Akane, then Nerus. "He is dead, yet he moves of his own will. Sei, another ghost I know, definitely exists. He kept me company for years." She blinked once, then looked up, her eyes finding Nerus'. "Death does not mean you cease to exist."
