I been noticing that in the last few pages, people have been moving farther away from the victorian/edwardian era when saying something is steampunk. I alwqays thought that it was a crucial bit when classifying, but what does everyone else think?
Don't get my wrong, I love hellboy (not the first one though *shiver*), stardust, and atlantis nearly to death.

Well I saw Hellboy 2 last night with my other half and we bloody loved it.
And the last fight scene on all of the giant cogs and gears were AMAZING.
Not to mention the fact that the Golden Army was one of the coolest things I'd seen in a long while in a fantasy movie.

You know what, I'm going to say it.
I like Wild Wild West. A lot.
Dark City is also worth checking out, though that's not strictly steampunk. It's not very easy to describe, it's simply one of those films you have to watch to understand.

The Chronic Argonaut OMG_om num num im to lazy to read all the pages but did people mention the league of extraordinary gentlemen ? Ifthey did, it was in hushed tones to the disapproving looks of all. hmmn i didnt find it that bad. . . but it takes much to please a hardcore stempunk fan now days i guess

I recently rewatched "The Series of Unfourtunate Events" again and I don't know if I could say if it is steampunk. However, the costuming is amazing. I love the dress that the chick who plays Violet wears.
There are also a sort of steampunk styles in Atlantis (the Disney version) and Treasure Planet. I also used to watch The Great Mouse Detective all the time as a little girl. I guess those movies made a huge impact on my fashion tastes.

We always figured ya fer a whoopsie." *Glare* xDD Also, there's a new movie coming out, that can't really be described as cyberpunk, or goth, or steampunk. I have no idea what it can be called, but there might be some elements of all three in it. It's called "Repo! The Genetic Opera." Very gory.

Don't get my wrong, I love hellboy (not the first one though *shiver*), stardust, and atlantis nearly to death. But Stardust is most DEFINITELY Victorian. If you'll allow me to quote directly from the book: "The events that follow transpired many years ago. Queen Victoria was on the throne, but she was far from being the black-clad widow of Windsor: she had apples in her cheeks and the spring in her step, and Lord Melbourne often had cause to upbraid, gently, the young queen for her flightiness. She was, as yet, unmarried, although she was very much in love..." The next paragraph goes on to mention the famed Mr. Dickens, Mr. Draper, and Mr. Morse as contemporaries of the tale.

Nat Mea I don't know if these has been mentioned (I skipped a few pages) but Firefly/Serenity has a sort of Western/steampunk feel over it even if it's a Sci-fi. Firefly takes place about 500 years in the future, and nothing is run on steam.

Just a little reminder: Victorian does not equal Steampunk. Most steampunk may be Victorian, but by all means, we do not define Steampunk as Victorian.
But yes Feline. I think I would shy away from calling Firefly steampunk as well; even if it is simply an awesome series and of course we all love to label awesome things with the term steampunk, because steampunk is so awesome. xD

Concessions to Ms. Afire. However, Wall (where the best bits were) wasn't victorian- is that correct?
Sir Lyonhart, I was refering to the mixture of both machine and victorian.
Finally for our dear Argonaut- how can you prefer WWW to Extraordinary Gentlemen?! wink Kidding
On further thought, what on earth is Firefly? Besides being brilliant, I don't think we as yet have a proper subgenre for it.
