Ironically, I bought my copy on a whim. I went to purchase Paper Mario 2 and happened to see a game by Square Enix and went "Oooh, Square Enix! Must have!" I have been quite pleased with it though.
Speaking of buying things right before a price drop, I bought my PS2 1 week before the price went from $300 to $200! XD

how i got it? ... hm.
when i first heard about it, i was into the whole "OMIGOD TALES OF SYMPHONIA > ALL" phase. i was at some japanese fansite, and i saw some fanart for star ocean as well. i liked what the characters looked like, so i kept their names in mind and such.
ANNDDD... then i went on livejournal and found a lot of star ocean communities, and it influenced me like "hey... i wanna play the game. looks like fun. :3" and then i went to target, and i was browzing through the games, and i saw star ocean for $20 bucks. so... of course, i bought it. ;^; i would have chosen kirby's air ride, but FAYT > KIRBY.
yep. :'D the FAYTXALBEL community at livejournal helped me buy star ocean.

There are two ways to explain how I obtained zee Star Ocean game. The funny way and the real way.
Funny Way: I stole Star Ocean from a Communist.
Real Way: I asked to borrow it from my Communist friend. Eventually, it turned into a kidnaping because I refused to give it back for many a month. Then the Commie blackmailed me with FFIX and I gave in because I couldn't find my copy of it. Sadly, the next day I found my own copy of FFIX. My current plan is to trade the Commie's FFIX for Star Ocean again.
In conclusion, don't trust Communists.

How I got SO3: My little brother had bought the second Inuyasha game, but it was glitchy and he took it back to the store. They were out of the Inuyasha game, so he decided to try SO3 instead. We both played it; I loved it, he hated it. He started talking about how he wanted to trade it in this video game place at the mall and I threw a fit. He ended up having to borrow about $50 from me though and I told him to just give me the game and we'd call it even. Then I had my SO3! Yay! mrgreen

Mine?
XD Well... I'd seen it in the store a few times before, but it was like $60 so I never bothered with it. It wasn't until my best friend was talking about how she heard that it was really good that I decided to buy it.
So, I went back to the store... XD and it was on sale! I got it for around $15, and I'm pretty sure it was the last copy they had.
^^ I went back a few weeks later looking to buy another copy for my little sister, but they didn't stock them anymore.
So yeah xD There be my tale of the End of Time.

My memory I buying Star Ocean was kinda boring, but I shall share:
I was looking at the Final Fantasy X-2 book-let thing. I was flipping through the pages until I saw the Star Ocean add thing. I was like wow that character looks cool, along with the pictures. So the next day I went on the internet and read a little about the game. Then I was hooked, and I went onto amazon. I asked my Mom telling her I would pay for it and got it. ^___^
And here is a little side-story for my memories. I was reading on the internet about the game, because I was stuck. And mean while I was looking in the book-let and saw a picture of a unfamiliar person in the pictures fighting with Cliff and Nel (I think) and I looked closer at the picture. It was Albel of course, but I had no idea who that person was at the time. So as I looked closer at the picture I was like: O_O "Holy crap he is hot!!! When does he join our party? I wanna know now!!" So then I got off the internet and went back to playing. And that was my first memory of ever seeing my most favorite character in the game for the first time.
It was all kinda boring, but I wanted to share. ^___^

He looked and sounded so cool XD But I became a fan after the first time I watched the scene where you meet him at the Kirlsa Training Facility! heart

So all-in-all I became a fan the moment I saw and heard him.

I kept seeing the game at all the game stores, or any place that sold games. I hadn't heard anything about it, but I was poor and therefore couldn't afford to take a chance.
Then my cousin told me how great the series was, and that she had loved playing the second game, and I figured, "Okay, that's it. I'm buying this game."
And...so I talked my parents into buying it by talking my brother into helping me convince them...haha. And then, this year, it went on a clearance sale for $10 as a Greatest Hits and I bought my brother his own copy since I wanted to keep the copy we first got. twisted (I'm also a snot and wanted the original copy since it's NOT a Greatest Hits...)

How I got my copy? Quite simple really... After Lightning fried my first PS2 (Which made me sad, for the longest time I thought it fried the PS2 Harddrive, but either way, meant no FFXI for me) and after I had it replaced (which is when I found out the Harddrive was ok, but I still can't play FFXI because dial-up was cancelled for clearwire, which can't be used for PS2 xp ) I had frequently gone out on game splurges... I had gotten a card from EB Games that I get 10% discount on used games... On one such run I had picked up 5 games... one of these was SO, but it wasn't used... The other games I got were (I think) one of the Inuyasha games (It creeps me out, but hell it was cheap), I think I got Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals, but that may have been an earlier run... I was gonna get a Katamari game, but then I found a used Monster Rancher 4 game (I had so much fun with MR2, sticking in random CDs and getting monsters out of them, but MR4 uses DVDs as well! I forgot what the SO discs give...) I really don't feel like going back to my room to see if my memory will be jogged... But yeah, I simply got it because I was looking for cheap games to splurge on. (I remember it was 5 games, and I bought 2 memory cards all for $100)

D: And when lightning struck my house, the PS2 was about the only thing that survived. xD I'd be really interested to know what monsters you get from the SO disks! If it's not too much trouble, of course. I had the MR2, but I traded it in toward buying Monster Hunter. I want MR4 though!

Love the raise five monster system, though it gets a bit complicated... All in all, it's much easier to play than MR2, but unfortunately, when they die, there aren't any funeral services. But it allows you to go straight into the freezing process. I miss my TheCheat crying (GameProbot... Got him from a promo Action Replay disc with FFX and KH cheats on it, Dragon/???) But now I'm raising five, but I have backup saves so I can check them on those. Asuka, (Surfana, from some CD my ex-gf had, Ogyo/???), TheSneak (Nightsicle, from FFX, Ripper/???), Shinji (Haktak, random disc, Naga/Ripper), Rei (Ray, random disc, Zan/Lesione), and Trigger (Tiger, random disc, Tiger/Tiger) Major changes from MR2 (aside from new monsters): No Gaboos (Though there is a boss monster that is a Gaboo), No funerals, Mocchis have to be unlocked, Dragons are free to raise at the start, No worms (Replaced by Beaklons, which are giant beetles), Apes are modeled after the Ape Escape apes (but you have to have the Ape Escape games to get them)... I guess I'll stop there... I know where you can find the pics of the monsters... Here is a site tht has pics of about all the monsters... It'll ask for a login and password, but these are typed at the top of the page, and they work too.

TheCheat wouldn't happen to be named after a character on homestarrunner.com would it? xD I LOVE that website! I like that there aren't any Gaboos or Worms any more, I hated those things! xP The prospect of raising Dragons from the start is exciting too! whee In MR2, I mostly raised Tigers, Pixies, and once I unlocked them, Dragons. I liked that Dragon/Pixie mix, though I can't remember what it was called. I was so excited when I got my Phoenix too! heart
