Sorce sighed and kneeled down. Before Zen had a chance to react, he grabbed his arms and pulled them straight, realigning them. That done, he muttered off a quick healing spell. "There. Free of charge."

As Zen got up, grinning now that the pain was gone, Sorce thrust a sheet of paper in his face. Zen boggled at the amount, which was something like Y750,000. "You already have a big bill to worry about... One. I'll accept payment in all hard currencies accepted on Earth. No magical world money, please. I worked really hard on those armor."

"Y750,000...do accept credit cards?" Zero said as he reached for his wallet and pulled out a Platinum credit card.

"It's pretty reasonable compared to what I had to spend when Nyuu and I went to Chao Bao Xi. She practically ordered everything on the menu and had it delivered to my dorm. It cost about two to three million yen, plus delivery charges. Well, at least Nyuu enjoyed herself." sweatdrop

"No credit cards," Sorce said. "I take checks though. Make it out to 'Magitech Enterprises'."

After accepting the check, Sorce turned around and waved good bye. "Well, so long One," he said, snickering a little. "I'm off to make a new set of armor and fix all the stuff you broke!"

Zero scratched his head, annoyed at Sorce-san's remark. However, his annoyance quickly disappeared when he looked towards Nyuu, who looked back at him and smiled. Zero sighed and began to murmur to himself.

"Well, I guess that losing isn't all that bad...I mean, at least I won something...right?" sweatdrop

"Yes Zero-sama, you won something. Even though it cost you your undefeated status, you kept your promise to me and won my trust, Zero-sama. That's something that you can't ever win from a tournament." Nyuu said as she smiled at Zero, who blushed and turned his face away, much to Nyuu's amusement.

"Hehe, I guess you're right about that, although I'm still gonna have to break the bad news to Mizumaru-san one way or another, but I'll deal with that later. So, you wanna get something to eat?"

"Yes, Zero-sama. I'd love to."

Sorce stood in the ring, waiting for his opponent in the Cherry Blossom Festival Tournament...
PostPosted: Sun Feb 03, 2008 7:08 pm

Benjamin finally looked up from the stationary and its vague descriptions of the 'task' and saw what could only be a combat tournament ring... with an opponent already waiting for him.

"Oh, you have got to be kidding me!"

When he reached ringside, he revised his previous statement. "Now I know you're kidding me!!"

The stationary had all the details. Apparently, the mundane audience to Mahora's last fighting tournament had gotten a real kick out of the more spectacular fights. So this time it was a stage show.

And his opponent was Sorce Marionne. sweatdrop

Sorce looked, hearing his opponent... and twitched. "Did I do something to piss someone off, or does the universe just really want me to die, I wonder?"

Never mind that this was just a 'rehearsal' of sorts to warm up the crowd. The principle held.

"I can see from the twitching on your face that you're not happy to see me," Sorce said as Harris got into the ring. "I'm pretty sure it's not that you're terrified of me, so it'll either be disgust at having such a weak opponent or pity at said weak opponent. Please, don't tell me which. I don't think my ego can take it."

stare "...You have no sense of self-esteem, Marionne-kun."

Benjamin considered for a moment, then continued considering, out loud. "Since I'm thinking neither, does that mean I do get to tell you?" He grinned as Sorce tottered on the verge of a facefault.

"Actually, its more a matter disbelief that the school administration would rope a teacher in on this... monstrosity." He sighed. "Still, if this really is a rehearsal to a stage show, then why the hostility. Actors on the same stage are allies, you know. This is one instance where cooperation trumps competition every time."

"And this being a 'rehearsal', who says we have to do this for an audience, even a small one? Why not B.T.D. and find someplace quiet where we can hash out a general script, or a 'fight theme', or something...?"

(("B.T.D." - ooooold, as in 70s-old, college-boy slang: "blow this dump", meaning to leave a less than savory environment with gusto))

Sorce shook his head. "This supposed to be a sort of... 'teaser' show for what's going to happen in the main tournament," he said, pulling out his melee staff from out of his pouch and extending it to full length, sliding a bit awkwardly into a guard position. The stance was right, though, and Sorce obviously knew what he was doing, even if he didn't seem used to it. "And it's not really as 'stage show'. It's just how we're calling it to account for the inevitable 'special effects'." Sorce tilted his head. "Think of it as a chance to break your teeth on a mild opponent. Everyone else in Mahora is much, much more enthusiastic about their fighting than me..."

Benjamin groaned, "Oh fer chrissakes..." thinking that, given Sorce's suspicions as to his gym teacher's background, he would have at least some idea why Ben was so reluctant to fight before an audience.

True onmitsu (the shadowy warrior spies upon which the whole ninja concept is based) don't go around flashing their mad 'leet skilz, you know?

On the other hand... An unholy grin slowly spread across Benjamin's face. (Let it not be said that I don't appreciate a damn good challenge. And this has all the ear marks of one, right down to that feeling of impending DOOM that Rikku-sensei likes to wax poetic about...)

With that, the gaijin teacher shed his long coat, unbuttoned his shirt's cuffs and collar, and rolled up its sleeves. A little more consideration, and he shed his shoes and socks as well.

The moment Benjamin set his bare feet on the wooden surface of the ring, he knew he'd made the right choice. There was power here... Really ancient stuff. His grin widened a little more at the thought of unraveling that puzzle...

((poor Sorce! he has absolutly NO idea what's going through Ben's mind, that his grin has NOTHING to do with actual fight or Sorce at all... oh, the irony!))

Sorce's grip tightened on his staff. Grins directed at him in a combat situation were bad. Unholy grins were something far, far worse.

Oh, frick....

Harris was some kind of fighter, that much he admitted. He'd implied he was a ninja, and Sorce had heard enough rumors about the ninja that reputedly lived in Mahora to be properly terrified. The fact it was other mages passing it around and not mundanes just made it worse...

AND Harris had just dropped his coat and made himself comfortable, always a bad thing to see in an opponent. It meant they were confident they could beat you.

Sorce quickly readied his shield spell, in case he needed it up in a hurry, glad he had worn his body armor. All it would take was one thought...

Benjamin came down from this 'challenge-high' quickly enough, and refocused on the student before. If he'd had any doubt before that Sorce was primarily academic, those were now washed away. The poor kid was so wound up with nervous tension Ben was almost tempted... No, that would really wreck the boy's ego.

Instead, Benjamin reined in his grin. Clasping his hands low behind his back, he brought his feet together, then leaned forward slightly. Finally, Ben tilted his head to one side, closed his right eye, and give a mild smile.

Reading 'Ranma 1/2' much?

Idly, he wondered if there was a ref and an official 'start' to the match... Even as he gathered and shaped ki behind his closed eyelid.

Sorce felt the gathering of energy, and his eyes narrowed slightly. Okay, that wasn't good...

He made no move, however. Tactically, it would be to his advantage to wait for his opponent to move. It wasn't like he could justifiably drop an Eternal Darkness of his head, after all...

The crowd was starting to get restless, and still the student and teacher continued their waiting game.

Finally, Benjamin did something new. He yawned.

Sorce sighed, rolling his eyes. All right, this was getting ridiculous! All well and good to wait, but not if that meant eternal deadlock.

"Electro Arcana..." Sorce intoned, ignoring the idiots in the sidelines who'd released several garbage bags worth of cherry blossoms into the air for dramatic effect, "Puniceus Larua Fulgurales Furor!"

The crimson lightning burst into being immediately, almost instantaneously turning into an expanding cloud centered on Sorce. It arced about randomly, yet the bulk of it darted towards the black-clad mage's opponent while the rest crackled around his form like a demented anemone from hell...
