Awsome iMmature I must say those theories really got into me. And I dearly agree with Vincent. Yet, I do not understand another thing. The main character does not only see monsters...Let's take James as an example, not only monsters, but he also saw Angela and Eddie. Why these were the only real ones he saw as people in the entire town? Were they sharing his grief? And Heather? When she saw Claudia, the detective and Father Vicent? Maybe Angela and Eddie were already gone and they were just lost souls searching for something most precious to them. They were trying to find the answers to their questions and became entangled in Silent Hill.

I'm split here. If that was the case, you think they'd be attacking each other too, and not just the player. Take the way Cybil and others were possessed in SH1, ie- with those big bump on their backs (nurses), and a few other things, number one being Vincent's theory, and thinking of that, I think that it might be possible that the people are now the monsters, I dunno. Maybe they once were people, but even if they were, I think that the nightmare likely twisted them, and there's no going back, they now are what they are. That's my thoughts, I really don't know. sweatdrop

Newtionary Concerning Laura not seeing the monsters... Well, Angela is the only one who sees the fire all the time, as she said: "For me, it's always like this." James doesn't see the fire because he didn't burn his house down. He is attacked by vicious monsters because he's a bad, bad man. What did Laura do besides be REALLY annoying? She could be a manifastaion, I can dig that, but the town having her go there could have just been another way to make James feel even more crappy. Black Cat Hamlet With Laura, she could be just an innocent-minded *cough*brat*cough* little girl.... But then again, if she hasn't sinned or lost anything close to her, why would she be in Silent Hill? *cough* Mary*cough* AHEM, now, I don't think Silent Hill is a bunch of stoned morons killing each other. Nope. No way. I could let my little mind wrap around the fact that they are drugged, imagining this place, and not really fighting monsters, but not... you know...drugged and actually killing people. Just sayin'. I don't believe they're killing real people. The 'monsters' may have been people at some point, but I don't believe they are when they're spitting acid on you while you try to crush their skulls with a pipe. Interesting theories all the same. And I love Vincents joke. when i read this it made me think "they could be stoned morons killing things that they only thinks they see. or that they are imagining if you will witch makes more since than killing people i agree. also laura is in silent hill because she is looking for mary not knowing *spoiler for second game* mary could have been a ghost or something when she and mary met. so ya she is an innocent brat who happens to be in silent hill not to atone for a sin and therefor cannot see the monsters as she has not sinned for her to see them.

People like Laura act as memories. They are a part of the memory that manifests itself to a physical apparition. How do we know that Laura doesnt represent James childness, or Eddie represents the gluttony of James, or that Maria doesn't represent the lust James was after? Clearly, all valid points.
The people in Silent Hill 4 WERE real people, they were trapped in an apartment marked as Sacraments. They were trapped in a world Walter Sullivan created through the Ritual of the Holy Assumption. As quoted "It is a world within our Lord's world, but without our Lord".
When the Sacraments die in that world, they manifest as ghosts because as also quoted "Those who die in that world shall wander forever undying." His earlier victims became monsters whereas his victims after the Holy Assumption became ghosts. Why that is, I cannot tell without some possible research if available.

There are some interesting theories going on, here.
I do want to point out that the 'Missionary' and 'Scraper' in Silent Hill 3 were in fact real people, transfigured by Claudia to look like monsters. If she didn't, it's possible that Heather wouldn't have killed them and this would have been detrimental to Claudia's plan. So I find it interesting that Vincent makes that comment, and Heather does indeed later encounter a scraper, a real person, in the church, who she most likely murders unknowingly.
The White Claudia theory seems rather unlikely to me, however. That would be.. a shitload of dead people. Just think about how many lying figures alone there are in Silent Hill 2. And the mannequins. And the nurses all over the street. It's just too extreme for me to get on board with that idea.henrytownshend4235 People like Laura act as memories. They are a part of the memory that manifests itself to a physical apparition. How do we know that Laura doesnt represent James childness, or Eddie represents the gluttony of James, or that Maria doesn't represent the lust James was after? Clearly, all valid points. I've thought about all the other characters in SH2 being manifestations like Maria. But it's difficult to get them to hold up; there's no evidence of James feeling glutinous, but in a more broad perspective, he, Angela, and Eddie have all killed someone. ( well.. Eddie killed a dog & shot a guy in a leg; it's close enough. ) So in that way there is a connection, and with Angela it was retaliation against sexual abuse ( which relates to James' sexual frustration ) and with Eddie is was an outburst over being verbally abused ( Mary was often harsh with words towards James during her illness ). But even then, I have difficulty believing that is enough to connect them. The reason why I believe Laura is a living person, is because I she is mentioned in Mary's notes, which I assume to be real. She met Mary during her stay in the hospital, and Mary became very attached to her, and Laura with her. Laura's opinion of James probably comes from his avoidance of visiting Mary, and the fact that when they were together, she would often get upset or angry. ( as a dying person would. ) She is also present in the 'Leave' ending, in which James has moved on. At first I thought it was odd that she was absent in the others, but it wouldn't make sense for her to be involved in any of them.
Maria isn't a real person, she's the same as the monsters. Laura never mentions her, so I don't think she ever sees her, and it doesn't seem as though anyone else does either. She is an idealized and sexualized image of James' wife, and is killed repeatedly as a tormenting reminder of what he's done. In the 'Maria' ending she is a replacement for Mary, and in the others she becomes jealous and angry at James for not accepting her. This I find interesting, that although she is a delusion of someone's mind, she is still a sentient being.
As for Silent Hill 4, The only victims I observed turning into a monster is Billy & Miriam Locaine. The bald ghost that is on the cover, appears in Schreiber's apartment in the intro, and later in Henry's as well as haunting Walter's world, is Jimmy Stone, the first victim. The fourth victim also appears as a ghost. The first ten victims were killed in reality by Walter in the flesh as opposed to in Walter's world, as witnessed by Henry. Then, like you said, all the victims after 'Assumption' become ghosts. ( Schreiber seems to be a special case in that he remains in the room 302 in Walter's world ) I don't have an explanation as to why only four of the ten hearts victims haunt the world, especially when it seems like it is only created after Assumption. ..But I can't really complain about not dealing with seven more ghosts.

I can't imagine why only a few victims would appear either, but i also can't imagine the victims not becoming a monster or ghost of some kind.
I don't believe Jimmy Stone is the bald ghost. Jimmy stone was killed by a gunshot wound to the head, but the bald ghost does not have a bullet wound mark anywhere. If anything, I believe the bald ghost could be the victim who was bludgeoned with a pipe.
I believe Jimmy Stone is Pyramid Head,. You can read my Pyramid Head section in the Underlying History subforum, and the Walter Sullivan section in the underlying History for mmore information on my theory between the connectivity of Walter and Pyramid Head.
But once again, all theorizes are speculation drawn by each persons personal thoughts.

If anything, I believe the bald ghost could be the victim who was bludgeoned with a pipe. That is a good observation! However, I guess the developers chose to ignore it/designed him the way they did for a different reason because official SH4 site had information on who all the ghosts are. You can read about them all here, and Jimmy Stone is 01/21.
& I guess they are all ghosts, but don't appear for an unexplained reason.
