"Superior wouldn't take advantage of us, he's just trying to lead us to a better future...or something."
Okay, Demyx was just a tad bit oblivious to what was really going on. It didn't matter though. He believed what he wanted to believe and in his mind the Superior, as scary as he was, was just trying to help. If IX was good and obeyed orders everything would turn out fine...some day.
"I mean...I appreciate the concern and all but Superior isn't out to hurt me..."

"Sure, kid. That's what they all say."
Zelos muttered bitterly, but he didn't press the subject. What was it to him if the brat got hurt? If he just sat around playing with fire, it was his own damn fault if he got burned. Guys like that were never out to hurt you at first, but the moment they started into that whole 'for the greater good' routine, something was bound to be sacrificed.
The redhead abruptly shoved aside all his negativity, and just stopped thinking so he could re-assume his careless and carefree demeanor. His bitterness was easily balled up and buried as he smirked at his odd companion.
"Kid, why don't you go run up that dune and tell me if you see anything?"

Demyx sighed and let his head hang for a brief moment. Why couldn't he convey his thoughts on this right? Of course, he supposed it'd be hard for the other to truely understand if he wasn't the same as Demyx himself. Afterall, how do you explain to someone that your leader is trying to help you gain a -heart- of all things? It sounded ridiculous, even to Demyx at times, so it was just...so -hard- to explain...
"Yeah...sure..."
The young jackal tried to perk up as he ran off to scope out the surroundings. By the time he reached the top of the dune he was, at least, past the stage of sulking.
"There's a little place up ahead we could probably stay the night...if you wanted to."
Demyx glanced from the little rock outcropping ahead back to Zelos below.

Of course Zelos had already known they were approaching a good spot to spend the night, he wouldn't have risked irritating the kid by sending him up yet another pointless dune.
"Sounds good, I'm up for stopping early. Heh, those who are as gorgeous as I am need plenty of beauty sleep."
The sound of his own arrogance made him wince inside, but shallow was the best way to avoid his troubles.

"...yeah I'm sure they do."
Okay, he wasn't outright sulking, but the youth still had a rather sour mood. Sighing again, Demyx bounded his way down the dune and started off towards their campsite for the night.

Well, at least the brat was quiet now.
Zelos tried to shrug it all off like usual. Sometimes the stupid things were the only things that were safe to care about, so he threw himself into his usual routine with determination if not enthusiasm.
He took his time getting to the rocky outcropping, and flopped down on what he perceived to be the cleanest patch of ground before pulling his long hair over one shoulder to braid for the night.

As Zelos went about fixing his precious hair, Demyx wandered past him and over to a nearby cactus. Now, thankfully he remembered how painful the first one had been, and went about this in a more intelligent manner. Taking a single claw, the young jackal poked a hole in a clear spot of the cactus, and used said hole to pull water out of it. Thankfully his control over the substance made it a rather easy task.
After quenching his thirst, Demyx curled up by the cactus with his back to Zelos. Apparently, he was still rather annoyed with the other.

Zelos didn't even glance over in Demyx's direction as he pulled off his headband and used it to tie the end of his braid.
"Heh, you could have asked me to cut off the spines again."
Flippant as always, the redhead smirked as he flopped over. At least the kid could learn, maybe he could be given some tips for that hairstyle of his or something.

"I didn't -need- your help, I can control water on my own thanks."
Demyx nearly snarled back at the other and tucked his own head against a paw. Getting water was one thing he didn't need help with. The earlier spine incident had been unfortunate, yes, but he had learned and he'd be fine from now on.
...Hopefully.

"Hey, no need to get all snappy!"
Zelos still smirked. It seemed the kid was a kid after all, and perhaps as prone to fits as any other kid.
"Just because I don't understand your little group thing, you shouldn't get all mopey about it. Hunnies won't buy mopey."

"Snappy? ME? Pft, you haven't seen anything..."
Demyx grumbled unhappily, ears flattening back against his head.
"How -would- you understand? You aren't the same as I am, and I hope you never are. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. And I don't CARE about the hunnies! That's you! Not me!"

Zelos rolled his eyes.
"Duh, of course I wouldn't understand, and I'm not like you at all."
He paused long enough to flick his braid over one shoulder.
"Since it's pretty obvious you don't care about hunnies, you should at least care about yourself. Lighten up a bit, sulking and snapping will only make you miserable."

Demyx grumbled again, but at least the words seemed to be sinking in. Instead of having another snarky reply for Zelos, the younger one merely shut his mouth and curled up more. Apparently he was done discussing anything for the night.

Zelos made it a point to not look disturbed in the slightest at the thought of Demyx not talking to him. It would be nice to get some peace and quiet for a change. He pulled off his gloves and pink overcoat, carefully setting the former aside and curling up the latter under his head like a pillow, and then closed his eyes to sleep for the night.

Now normally, Demyx would have stayed away and made it a point to continue with the sulkyness until the other felt awful and apologized to him. Unfortunately the desert wasn't going to give him that opportunity. Overwhelming heat gave way to bone numbing cold, and despite trying to fight it as long as possible, the young blonde ending up getting rather chilled. Shivering, even in his coat, Demyx slowly scooted closer and closer to Zelos over the course of the night. Eventually, the youth lay curled up beside the other and sleeping quite contently in the warmth.
