Women are not to speak in church, and are to cover their heads, lest they tempt men.

first, that's NT. and second, that was directed at a specific church in a specific culture. Paul was addressing an issue that only pertained to the church he was writing to.
Oh! Okay...so we don't need to follow pretty much HALF of the NT, then? Most of them WERE leters sent to specific churches...

Which raises teh question, why were they included at all? Seeing as they no longer apply to us, I mean.

because they still contain timeless spiritual truths that can be applied in our lives. out of the little blip about Euodia and Syntyche we can find that we need to be unified as a Body. and the part about women covering their heads, we find that women should not dress in a way that says the wrong things about them. no, i'm suggesting full-length shapeless robes with a turtle neck for women, i mean i have no problem with skirts that are above the knee or tank tops on women. but women were dressing in a way that was tempting men or in a way associating themselves with the temple prostitutes. so basically, don't dress like prostitutes. and it's pretty easy to tell what would just be an issue within that church that does not apply to us and what can. it's not like "is Romans 8:32 only directed towards the believers in Rome?" a little thought can go a long way.
So, what are your thoughts about Men with long hair? I get WAY too much crap from that verse sweatdrop

definitely a culture issue.
but again, it probably applies to us now in the way of "don't dress like women". yes emo scenesters, i'm talking to you.

I can't be bothered reading this, all, you may think your not making personal attacks but you are,
You won't read my post, yet you're content to assume that I am simply flaming you and that my posts have no merit? Ignoring your opponent's points isn't exactly debate etiquette. You're not in a rush. Read, then respond. You'll save us both a lot of time, and I won't need to repeat myself a million times.

Type Text Here
I've done real debating and bringing into context half the stuff you have like insulting people saying basically "even I know the bible better than you" (side note: You don't know the bible better, you just used the search function on biblegateway.com GGnoRE) is something you don't do.
Uh. Prove that I used biblegateway.com. I got my sources elsewhere, and have never used biblegateway.com. At best, I use biblegateway.com, but for this, I did not. I can't be arsed to page through a bunch of search results when I know of a site that offers the exact verses I am looking for, which I cross referenced in my hard-copy of the NIT Bible.

Type Text Here
Also a thing you don't do is ignore things said by the other person. Which you've done, you know.
Hahaha... You're really one to talk. Did you not just admit to not even reading my post? You've been dodging arguments throughout this entire thread, whether you realize it or not. What am I ignoring?

Type Text Here
Do this and then your right:
Shifting the burden of proof. But whatever the ********. I'll ******** humour you...

Find a scripture for me where it says the LORD says that woman are lesser than men.
There is no such thing as a single verse where YHVH says that women are less than women. It is implied through scripture. Certainly, you read the whole Bible, and not just bitty solitary verses ignoring context, yes? The second account of creation says that Eve came from Adam as a companion. She was created for him because he was lonely. They were not created at the same time as equals in the second account of creation. Eve was punished more harshly for having been tempted by the serpent to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. If you're looking for a "And the Lord said that women are inferior beasts and shall eternally serve under men," I don't have that, because it doesn't exist. At most, I have Genesis 3:16:

To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

Certainly doesn't say they weren't created equal--only that they should not be treated equally.

Type Text Here
Find me ONE thing that says God made woman to be lesser.
See above.

Type Text Here
My WHOLE arguement is "Sure it happened, but that was the culture of the time" I mean, God doesn't want people to hate people on a count of there racial colour, that didn't stop people who where christian doing it in America.
Yeah, he just wanted people to hate Canaanites and non-Jews.

Type Text Here
Doesn't mean God says black people are lesser, it means people do. God doesn't.
Then what parts of the Bible are you taking as YHVH's word, and what parts are you taking to be man's word? Honestly, I am an atheist. I don't believe in YHVH, and the whole thing is entirely man-made, and can be considered faulty on that count. In my opinion, nothing was divinely inspired at all. However, this book still has quite an affect on our Western culture today. The original topic of this thread involves a father and his daughter's virginity per Biblical/religious law. Reclaiming a father's "right" to rule over his daughter's virginity is pretty much taking that whole "culture of the time" back.

My highly opinionated conclusion: The whole father-controlling-his-daughter's-virginity thing is really ******** up.

Type Text Here
And yes exactly I'm pretty sure it all law, because there also a scripture that says "If you are to live like a rule, conforming to there laws then you must follow ALL there laws" you can have those rules are a guideline but you are not bound to them.
Scripture and verse for that? I don't doubt it exists, I just have troubles reading your hand-typed version of it, and would rather read the NIV or some sort of sensible translation's version, word-for-word. You lost me at living like a rule, and following "there" laws.

Type Text Here
See, Cermonal laws are what God wants. But it says it is impossible to reach God by keeping the laws alone, because the laws restrict and make it nearly impossible to get to God. Therefore!
"None will get to the father expect through me"
But Jesus kept Old Law and got rid of Ceremonial Law. Distinguishing between the two isn't a walk in the park, of course.

Anyway Pirate, I'm done, you win, your might EDer power wins.
Honestly, stop complaining to me about what Takai says about me. While I jokingly consider myself an ED god amongst friends because of a guild and parody religion we've made up, I am not so haughty, and you would do well to distinguish between what I say, and what Takai says. He considers me "elite" in ED. I consider myself "good enough" in ED.

Type Text Here
Congrads. smile Your always right. You want an arguement for arguement sake but you do so ingore what I'm saying. So you can win. It okay.
Again, what did I ignore? You've ignored my entire argument. Period. You're dodging your burden of proof, and shifting it on to me.

Also:
*congrats

As you don't believe a word of the bible that it is in fact the word of the Lord, there really no point arguing with you. You're not going to get saved through this nor are any of your mindsets will be changed, I gave up a while ago, and from the start I kind of didn't want to argue with you at all. I've been wanting to end this whole discussion with you from the start Pirate, because, well although I love talking about the bible and what laws it could be. I don't like doing it when the other person comes across as extremely rude. I tried to respect you from the start, and I'm sorry if of late I've been slipping into the same mean nature you have been giving forth.

Simply put: Your going to gain nothing from this so I'm not going to go into deep spirtiual revelations and prayer about this topic to give you the answers you seek because this is the internet your not going to care.

I wanted this to stay on it's orginal topic, it rude to change the topic. I don't like being rude.

Finally:
Ephesians 2:13-15
13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.

14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.

See Jesus wants us to keep ALL the laws, but burnination is making a good point with what his saying about the whole "don't look like a prostitute remark"

God wants us to fill his laws ethically rather than cermonially, he wants us to realise certain things aren't good thus not do them rather than not do them because there the rules.

As for your "and man shall rule you" well there a place in the house hold. The man is to be the decision maker, of course his wife helps him but basically it saying let your husband have some power. The worest relationships I've seen is where the man is submissive to the wife he hates it, and most of those marriages end in devorce God said he hates devorce. Think there was a reason he said "Wives submit to your husbands"? It all to do with keeping a stable home. Of course you wouldn't understand and will probable say it's unfair.

But there a point where feminism has gone too far remember. There a different between equal rights and removing rights from people. The father has always been the protector of the family. It built into us as humans. The mother is caring the father is an action taker. It nature. If you believe in evolution then you'd understand that. So bible or evolution woman have a certain place. It not below men, it not less than men. It's just different.

So How is that fair? A Man being submissive to a Woman, and it's Divorce, but a Woman being submissive, and everythings Rainbows and Cupcakes?

Wow... I smell a butt head... and it angers me how stupid he is for not considering anything except for the fact that the agreement should bring a father and daughter closer together, and that in a marriage the father'll be giving all of his daughter to the groom... Oops, that sounds like a property issue to me.
Having to make sure that the father gives the groom his daughters virginity at marriage is insane, and to me a total property thing.
It screams to me "I've made sure she's clean for you. now she's yours and you can do whatever you want with her" kinda thing.

Personally, I would NEVER want to be cornered by my dad like that, ever. I had all intentions of keeping my virginity till marriage... and when I was younger I probably would have stupidly agreed to take the contract... but things change, people change... and crap happens. I don't regret any choice I've made. I've praied forgiveness a dozen times or more, and I know I'm still loved.
But... if I had made the promise to my dad say... ten years ago (I would have been 10), I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to keep it, because I found the guy (at 17) who would have my love and a year later, my virginity. We're still together, it's been almost four years now. But we couldn't help ourselves anymore... it just felt like the right thing to do... to plege our love for eachother in a way that we would never be able to say we didn't love one another. First time for both of us.
Now. If I had made that agreement with my father... and then all that happened... I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I'm not one to easily break a promise or anything like that. But some things, you just can't control. And a persons actions/feelings are usually one of those things.

Now, I also don't believe virginity is everything anymore... and actually, this topic just made me think that way. Even though saving it for marriage is a good thing, and what God wants you to do, I don't believe it's nessisary to be all wound up about it being the only thing a bride can give her groom. I mean, even if she isn't a virgin, she's still agreeing to give him all of her, her heart, her soul, her body. And no other man can take those things anymore. Everything she is, would become his. And vice-versa. It's a huge step either way. Sex is something that should come from love... and you don't have to be married to love each other.
If I was to ever brake up with my boyfriend, I would only carry proof on my body of how much we loved each other... and if I could let any other man that close to me again, then I'd have to love them more. That's just the way it would have to be, or I wouldn't feel right doing it.

Congradulations, your sin means more to you than what God wants. The reason for the contract is just that, to help you not be ruled by your emotions.

Taralanthalasa (wow you have a hard name to write out!) Sexual intamacy is something very big, it a great present given by the Lord -- but I can't be bothered trying to argue that with you but it says that TWO will BECOME ONE when they come together. When you sleep with someone you give them a little bit of your heart, a little bit of your soul, basically a little bit of your inner being, you can't get that back off them. They have it, and they can't give it back.

BUt beside all that, God says not to do it and God is clear about sin.

Heb13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

Mark 10:8 And the two shall become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Argue as much as you want but it's a sin, and you are rebeling against God every time you do it.

Romans 6:23 or the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

you know what? since when did I say I enjoyed what I did? I threw my cross across the room, damn it. I cried, and told my boyfriend I was not worthy of God. Since when did you have the right to judge me like that? since when did you have the right to ASSUME I was happy with what had happened? I love my boyfriend. I wanted him to have me, but I didn't think it would be at that moment. It just happened. I couldn't help it. A simple statement or promise could never have changed that. I told myself, my mother, AND my boyfriend that I would not have sex until marriage. What good that did me. If a person cannot over come a pull like that on their own, a contract isn't going to make any difference.

I know I can't get it back from him. But I don't want it back. I can't erase what happened, but Gods knows I'm sorry, and I know he's fogiven me, so I don't need your talk about stuff I already know. And who are you to say I still have sex with him? do you know me well enough to say something like that?
Virginity doesn't make a wife, because it doesn't make a person. It's a good thing to have, I know that. And God DOES want us to keep it for marriage, but what if marriage doesn't last? what about divorce? their no longer a virgin, and there for should stay together right? honestly I don't see a difference between premarital sex, and devorce. You just never if your marriage is going to last ten years or more. Hell, my moms marriage lasted about 7 years. I was five when they spilt, and they had spent two YEARS trying to have kids, ended up with twins, and five years later called it quits because my dad was cheating on my mom. She saved herself for my father, and what diference did it make? None. She still wasn't garenteed they'd be together for the rest of her life. Now, if she were to re-marry she wouldn't be giving that person her virginity, but she would still love them enough to give herself to them. Mind you she's like 46 sweatdrop

So... this was brought up why? Why are you doing on about this topic then, if the whole point is to realise something is wrong, and learn from it. Rules are set forth to PROTECT someone. If God didn't want to protect us there wouldn't be any rules. Rules are not suppost to be broken, which is why God is so stern when it comes to them. People learn by experiancing, and God can forgive us for doing that, its the repetitivness that peeves him of.

Do you consider a stable home a place where the childs father runs around with other women, sleeping in their beds? I don't. And thats what happened to my family. My dad set the rules, my mom worked all day(as well as my dad). She'd come home and make supper while he slept on the couch. My brother and I wandering the house, so she would have to watch us too. He never cooked, even though he knew how. My mom always cleaned the house. My father always desiplined my brother and I... not always in good ways (which my mother didn't like). Eventually, My father started seeing someone else while he was married to my Mom. He then started accusing my mom of seeing other men.
And you think thats a heathly home? Everything you said would make a stable home was mentioned, and it still fell out from under my families feet. After they split, My mom played the rule maker, my dad laid the slack on my brother and I, putting us on a fairly long leash. My mom was more worried about our saftey than he was, it seemed.

Exactly. Womand and CHILDREN where PLUNDER or SPOILS or WINNING from WAR. Think males where amongst those children? The womand and children where taken for slaves. All slaves where property. This doesn't say woman are property. It saying Slaves are property. Bad example. Very bad one on your behalf.

Actually... They were normal people before that war, remember, and if you can make other men's women and childern your property, then your women and childern can most certianly be your property aswell.

Of course they where people before then, but there slaves now, that what happens with war. I was simple stating that, that was a bad example of woman being property. Which is a pointless arguement and arguement for arguements sake.

Pounding, very well have what you want -- I never really wanted to debate, if I was debating I would of pointed out many more flaws in everything she was saying plus the fact many of her scriptures where simple what the Jewish people said. I never said that the Jewish people didn't treat there people like that, I said God didn't say they should, God didn't say that woman where made less important than men. That all I ever wanted to get at. Finding big scriptural writes up, simple wasn't nessiary. This is off topic once more. What you say below is more relavent. And yes I think she has different belief therefore I'm wasting my time talk to her about it -- well it not a waste of time if it was for fun, but she doesn't make it fun.

"God wants us to fill his laws ethically rather than cermonially, he wants us to realise certain things aren't good thus not do them rather than not do them because there the rules."

Oh? But you had no problem breaking God law about sex before marriage?

Do you consider a stable home a place where the childs father runs around with other women, sleeping in their beds? I don't. And thats what happened to my family. It's NEVER perfect, your father had issue to do with adultery, he had a wondering eye. And was a bad leader. But now tell me.

My parents where never married, I grew up with out a father, in fact he was already married and just recently broken up with his wife, he had sex with my mum without marrying her, she got pregnant, I was a mistake they didn't intend me to happen they didn't want me to happen. I grew up without a father, he ended back up with his wife. Becuase they just wanted to have sex, I grew up without a father, I had to grow up with the knowledge that my daddy didn't love me enough to be around in my life. Now is that fair? Tell me? Did I ever do anything to deserve that punishment? Was it my fault they got pregnant with me?

If people wait til marriage then there more chance of stable family for the child. It a simple fact, kids need mums and dads. My strive for male attention, for male to be my father ended up getting me sexual abused. Having a father in my life I'm pretty certain would of avoided that.

Or if you really want to press it, we can dispute the whole "Gods law about Sex before Marriage" in it's entirety. I have teh verses to back it, and I know from experience, few others can support teh opposition.

@ Pirate and Type Text Here - These debates are getting somewhat Militant, I've noticed, please try and tone them dow a bit. This *IS* a Christian Guild, after all, Law of Agape should be respected.

Now, I'm at a bit of a sore spot here. I have numerous points I myself want to discuss, but I must remain Neutral, as I am the only Crew member still Active, and Rowena is dealing with her School/Work/Personal Life, at the moment, and cannot be bothered with Gaia.

So, the both of you need to calm down. Relax. Take a Breath.

Pirate, cut the swears, please. And we all have our own levels of Typos and spelling errors. If it's legible, let it be.

Text, you're fairly rude yourself. And for claiming to be a former EDer, you pull an amazing number of Logical Fallacies, that lie short of only Flemavenger and Barraketh. A few helpful suggestions, whenever you pull a scripture, read 20 verses before it, and 20 verses after it, and you will have the full context of the verse you are using. In my Church, we refer to that as having 20/20 vision. Also, when replying to a portion of a verse, I usually paste a 'break' into teh quote, which can be easily doen by doing this:

Copy the following code:
[/quote]*[quote]

Now, paste that where you would usually paste a reply, and put said reply where teh Asterisk(*) is.

Honestly I didn't see that Sega, kehehehe!? Sega!?! D=
-Ahem.-
I was away for a few days with assessments, and I probable should be on now due to a test tomorrow. I didn't realise that she'd said that. Well that seems less hypocritical.

In that case, Tar read any of these books "Kissed the girls and made them cry" -- Lisa Bevear(sp?) or "Boy meets Girl" -- Joshua H.
I personally have only read Boy meets Girl as kiss the girls and made them cry, is well a chicks book.

And yes, a promise would of helped you in that Tar, it more than a contract it daughters talking to there father about this, it allowing father insight into there lives eg; you tell your father how intement your getting, the standard I go on is this "I'll only do whatever I'm willing to do in front of her father"

Oh please tell me the verse that oppose and agree with sex before marriage -- if there are such and they aren't faulty you would of made my day =P It'll make tense amongst me and a female a lot easier. Nah just joking I wouldn't even if you had it I don't wanna rip off her husband if it was to fail.

But anyway, I'd like to hear your evidence for prematiral sex, if not here then pms? I just wanna hear it.

Hey I've told her she can win, Sega! I knew this was coming, that why I'm trying to end it. sad I don't want to get anyone in trouble.

I know how to post, but like I said I never wanted to get into a big scripture debate her, I've been relaxed the whole time. Yeah my logic is faulty but that mainly because I post on the fly, normally I'm doing about ten other things while reply to people so I come back and I pick up where I left off, sometimes in mid sentence. If I wanted to be in a big scriptural battle I would be doing more. I would. And if your talking about me getting that verse about due to be married woman being raped then the rapist killed. I used that for a purpose, I knew that downward it said that, but it was both way, it wasn't like all rapist got off scott free, there was a reason for the rapist being told to marry the woman, it was for her livelyhood. Me getting the above was only to prove that rape wasn't something you got away with, raping a woman in the Jewish culture wasn't like the pakistarni where it's completely okay.

And I guess I could come off as rude but that before I'm straight forward, I say none of it with an agressive voice, I'm just rather blunt when it comes to debating -- it a flaw. When I write it in my head it all happy and nice, but being an Australian I have that bluntness that over here, is something you just accept as normal -- I don't know. Culture clash? I don't mean any of it rudly.

Did I say there was anything in the Bible that agreed with it? No. I think you should read my whole post over again.
I replied to you in more than one post.
