I have to wonder though... I don't think Discworld has any goths. If a true goth from this world went to the Discworld and drank some Klatchian coffee.... well, aren't goths supposed to embrace reality without illusions? To be totally sober at all times and see reality as it is? I think Klatchian coffee might be heaven for a goth.

Actually, most "goths" are depicted as silly girls with a penchant for black nail polish, ridiculously dramatic made-up names, far too much occult jewelry, and complicated rites that don't do anything. Witness Diamanda and friends in Lords and Ladies. Also Anagramma in the Tiffany books. And, of course, our Agnes's Perdita in Maskerade.
...I don't think Mr. Pratchett has met many decent goths...

Ok, then say a decent goth showed up in discworld, a real goth rather than an emo kid. How d'you think he/she'd react to Klatchian coffee?

If they're already partly knurd they would probably have a heart attack just to save time.

Hmm.... Well, maybe they'd realize "Wait! There's no point it being a goth specifically because want to see reality! I could do that no matter what!"
And then there would be no more goths, which would be a shame because I shamelessly stare at anyone wearing the lolita-goth style. It's so pretty.

Heh. Never thought of that before... I still think it'd be nice if it turned out goths actually liked Klatchian coffee though. They might think a world without illusions was... relaxing? I dunno. Anyway, I'm just thinking if that was the case, a 'nother race would be spawned on Pratchett's world, something akin to the travelling teachers (in Wee Free Men), except without the travelling or the teachers.

I wonder what happens when you drink too much of the stuff. Like, supposing someone had to. Would that be like "opening your eyes again"? Or extremely painfull to your tastebuds? I can see someone, after they drink a lot of it saying "I can see!" over and over again (naruto reference. You probably got it, and none the less, this isnt a good place to type about naruto). xp

Umm... I don't think it'd be like "opening your eyes again". According to Pratchett, "opening your eyes again" is basically just noticing stuff. Everywhere, everything, and in the finest detail. On the other hand, I think Klatchian coffee is like what Weatherwax did to that evil queen of Lancre. Knock out all the illusions in your mind so you realise what you've really done and are, and also tears off all the other comforting self-deceptions. Plus, brings in the full impact of all those horrible stuff you see in the news but never really pay attention to coz it happens so often, and shows you how the world really is, complete with all the horrible stuff you've stopped noticing.

You know things are going wrong if people talk about COFFEE in The Mended Drum. *Rings bell* Six O' clock and all's well. Back on duty. Sorry, have to leave.
