Hearing the disturbance outside the kitchen, Keldan shook her head pensively. What is it with these people and tubrous plants? she thought. The elf eyed the exit in teh corner to the outside, wondering if she ought to make a quick break for it, and then decided against it. She had a job, after all. Might as well keep it. She was getting low on book money.
"I will not BOIL them, MASH them, or STICK THEM IN A STEW this night!" she called out the swinging doors to the common room. "I will do something completely ORIGINAL but DELICIOUS! So there," she added in a mutter.

"Well, there you have it," said Estelyn with a sigh.
She turned to Ithil and muttered, "I don't think the chef is in any mood to hand over a potato, but you're welcome to order a dish with potato in it. I'm sure she could come up with something ingenious."
Ah, where's the Phantom when you need him?

Aurora saw the waitress approach the bar. "Excuse me Miss, I would like to order some food, if it isn't too much trouble for the cook, that is." She had seen that the cook didn't seem to be in the best of moods at the moment, and didn't wish to trouble her. "Quite an interesting staff you have here! I don't believe I have ever seen a phantom cook before" she proclaimed.

Keldan emerged from the kitchen, in a slightly better mood than she had been. She was carrying a steaming pile of almost every kind of potato dish imaginable, except, of course, for boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, or potatoes in a stew.
She set the few plates on the counter in front of the two potato-crazy customers, and then set down the salt and pepper. "There. Potatoes out the ying-yang."
As she was walking back to the kitchen, she heard the newcomer make her remark about the phantom. "I don't think you can really see a phantom cook, anyway," she couldn't help saying. She grinned. (This revealed the usual perfect Elven teeth. Orthodontists would die for Elven teeth.)

"Yes, our staff is a bit eccentric," Este remarked with a chuckle, "but they get the job done." She smiled and tilted her head toward the steaming potato dishes. "You wouldn't like one of those, now would you?"

She eyed Keldan in shock, as the cook burst out with the words that she would neither boil, mash nor stick them in a stew. Ithil nodded to Estelyn, about to ask for a taters dish when the cook came waltzing out with dishes of potatoes cooked in every form except for boiled, mashed, or stews. She sighed, deciding to take some fried tuber roots. Just then, another patron commented on their staff. "Aye, we're eccentric all right," Ithil said, biting into the potato. "But like Este over there said, we get the job done."

Pushing the door open a tall elven maiden stepped into the tavern her dark eyes peering around in inerest. Noting a brightly lit corner she walked over and sat down taking out a crumpled piece of parchment. Removing a quill and ink bottle from her overcoat, which she then hung on the back of her chair, she set to work sqribbling away.

With all the subtlety of an oliphaunt, a young Elf entered the tavern and winced as his case nearly knocked over some drinking glasses. Having gone from place to place in search of a good place to use his skills, he smiled a smile of satisfaction as he saw the violinist. He approached her, carefully avoiding anymore mishaps, and said, "Hello, my name is Tirno and this here," patting his case, "is my cello. I heard there was a violinist here and if it is alright with you and the management here, I'd like to accompany you in entertainment at this tavern."

Keldan looked up from a frying pan as she saw another two elves enter the tavern. The one with the rather large instrumental case was currently occupied tlaking to their resident bard... while the other sat down in a likely-looking corner and started scribbling away like mad. Deciding to take her break then, Keldan walked out of the kitchen, stretched like a cat who'd been cooped up in a crate for hours, and walked over to the writing elf.
Drying off her hands, she asked, "What're ye writing, then?"

Estelyn spotted the cellist, setting the glass she was cleaning aside and approaching him. "Welcome, welcome!" she greeted, interrupting Ithilvalan in a flourish and shaking his hand vigorously. "I'm the owner of this here tavern, and let me be the first to say we'd love to have you!" She smiled warmly. "My brother used to play the cello. And hey--how about you play us a little something right now?"

Glad to have met such a warm welcome, Tirno happily agreed. He removed his cello and his bow from the case. Both cello and bow had been made by Tirno himself from a beloved tree that was heartlessly killed. Hoping to always keep some of the tree with him, he made the cello and named it Linda, a reference to the ancient High-Elven word for music. As he tuned and prepared to play, he decided to play a lively Courante from the first suite of a man named Bach. With a light bowstroke, the music began.

Disturbed from Tirno's rapturous playing, she noticed the hobbit's mad leap through the window. Unfortunately, the fellow had gotten stuck under the pane. She excused herself from the cellist's company and approached the patron.
"Um..." she began uneasily, "would you like some help?"

Determined to finish, Tirno finished playing despite the owner's absence and the hobbit's loud entrance. Always vigilant for threats to his cello, he put down the instrument and eyed the drunkard, hoping the hobbit's disregard for harm to himself and others' property wouldn't touch his beloved cello.
