Sᴄᴏᴜᴛ

Melanie lurked in the shadows of the trees, under the safety of a Ghost. One group had already whisked past her and caught her off guard so she hadn't chased after them. This didn't exactly worry her, though; her brother would take care of them easily, just like she would deal with this new group.

She sniffed. In a way, this had worked out nicely. This way none of the three members lurking in the forest would be overwhelmed by however many students had wormed their way in. At least, that was presuming James was still standing. He had been taken out by just three stupid kids. Maybe if he was only facing one he wouldn't have as much trouble. James never had been one for lateral thinking.

Right, these kids. The white haired girl separated from the two boys and bent to her boot, presumably to draw a weapon. Melanie wouldn't let her. She muttered something under her breath, starting a fleet feet going, greatly enhanced by the charm Andrew had whipped up just for her. Green acid smoked over her arm before solidifying into a Blade. Melanie took position, and then she was off, crossing the clearing in a matter of seconds and slicing the girl clean across the upper arm. To anyone watching it would just look like a green light just sped across the clearing and sliced open the girl's sweater.

Melanie circled around the group and came to a stop ten feet from the three, flicking off the Ghost. "That's your warning shot," she said coolly, brandishing her Blade, now spattered with Yvonne's blood. Her boots still vibrated with a fleet feet. "So sorry, but this is as far as you go."

One second Yvonne was holding her wand, and the next she was crying out in surprise and pain, stumbling backward from the green flash of a blood pact member's magic.

"Ah-" she sucked in a breath through her teeth, forcing herself upright.

Her upper arm, now bleeding, stung. The threads of her sweater were sliced cleanly open, along with the skin beneath it. She hovered her hand above the cut, but didn't touch it through fear of making it worse. The woman was talking, but it was just threats at the moment. She held her wand with her right, non dominant hand, even though she knew her protective Turtle wouldn't do much at this point.

Even with Muna's hand in his, End was still worried. Shanta's talk of Ezrael maybe being there didn't help at all. The three elves had seen what Ezrael could do before, and End didn't think that they (even with Averill in tow) were near prepared to face against him (and live, that is).

He started breathing like Muna had instructed Averill to do. It was working, if only just for the fact that focusing on his breathing kept End's mind off the situation at hand, just a little bit. "It'll be fine..." he said, more to himself than anyone else. "We know Lara, she'll help us... It'll be fine..."

As the cottage came into view, End couldn't help himself thinking about the possibilities. What if Ezrael is there? What if Lara is already dead? What if Vivian attacks us? All of the questions, End could only answer with I'll have to do whatever I can to make sure the others are ok.

[Exit to The Cottage I think but Jen has to unlock it so get on that shizzzzzzz]

The three seniors sped through the woods, sprinting across the forest floor. Cas huffed, throwing herself into the air with a series of leaps. It was becoming rather difficult to clear all the debris and fallen branches in their path, especially now that Naomi had thrown her own charm on top. With a click of her fingers, Cas's jewel lit up brilliantly, casting a slightly macabre shadow across her face. Her remaining eye glinted in response and it too, seemed to shine brighter than usual. She passed on the effect of Keen Eye to her two companions, hopefully this would make it much easier to see and avoid anything up ahead, be it branches, roots, or perhaps yet another blood pact member hidden in the canopy.

Glancing behind them, Cas noticed the absence of the three younger years. "s**t, where'd they go?" is swore to no one in particular, wondering if they were alright but pushing that concern away as the three of them sped through, too far gone to help. So much for the A team....

Christ, thank god Cas was smart enough to shoot a keen eye on them. The bramble was getting pretty thick. Ari thought that maybe she knew where they were going, but decided to just leave the leading up to Naomi. The third year would get a little pouty otherwise.

"Thanks for that," She told Cas, and fell silent for the rest of the run. Whatever they were about to come onto, it wasn't going to be good.

She gave her a moment to glance around the clearing, feeling wary but simply speeding up when Naomi cast her fleet. Hopefully the underclassmen they had left behind wouldn't run into the area.

Or maybe they would, and Ari was just being paranoid about having left something dangerous behind. No time to find out. They were already approaching a familiar rush of water.

Muna leaned into End's shoulder, his own breathing falling back to mostly relaxed. He was a little surprised that Averill wasn't surprised at just being kidnapped like that. Honestly, Muna was surprised Averill had even joined this whole expedition in the first place.

It had been a while since Muna had actually seen hide or hair of him. It made Muna reminisce on a time where he had friends other than End or Shanta. Man, fourth year was gonna be tough for him.

He let Shanta and End answer, too lazy to speak himself. Muna was trying to save up all the exertion that came from talking for when they came upon Lara. (And maybe Ezrael, but Muna thought it was enough for End and Shanta to worry about that, so he didn't fret too much over it himself.)

"Tea time." Muna announced, swaying a little bit and occasionally bumping his shoulder lightly into End's in slight excitement. He hoped Lara had black. Muna loved black tea.

__ Icarus was very unsure that the weak fleet would be enough to let them catch up to their upperclassmen, but he didn't say anything and just jogged with the others around the bend. It was nothing compared to the jog he did in Justus anyways.

Icarus inspected the clearing they entered. Maybe it would be best to just stay here; at least then, when the upperclassmen back tracked, they would be easy to find. Yes, that seemed like a good idea.

Icarus opened his mouth to affirm Yvonne's comment on being a Mystic, but the words didn't leave his mouth. There was a flash of green light, and Icarus had to take a step back in alarm.

His eyes fell on Yvonne, and the slice on the girl's arm. His eyes widened in surprise for a moment, before they narrowed darkly on the Blood Pact member who had suddenly appeared.

                            Then he smiled darkly.

"I think we have a pest to get rid of, Ian. The forest is full of more annoying bugs than I thought."

The clearing made Ian uncomfortable. This was exactly the type of place a boss would hang out, if he kept up with his RPG analogy. He opened his mouth to suggest they stick somewhere else not quite so boss-arena-like to wait for the upperclassmen.

Then Yvonne got sliced and things got a lot more complicated.

Despite the fear that paralyzed his body, Ian's mind kicked into overdrive, analyzing the situation and comparing odds. She ghosted and fleet feeted, but that's a really strong fleet feet so to keep that up indefinitely she must be either naturally speedy or have some sort of charm or both. That blade looks like acid so she wield the Corrosive Aspect but she looks human so how-? Never mind the how. Her muscular structure must be light if she's so fast so she couldn't possible be that strong physically, but magically's another story. And--

Ian shook himself out of it. Icarus was speaking. What was he...? The little blood left in Ian's face left it. He wanted to fight? Was he insane? The upperclassmen had a chance, maybe, but they were on their own! They didn't know anything about their opponent and she clearly had the advantage, at least agility-wise. Where did that leave them? Ian rarely used magic to fight, and he'd only seen Icarus battle once or twice, and that was always before they turned tail and ran. They'd never actually accepted a fight. And Yvonne--

And finally Ian's brain managed to fully register that thought.

                                  She hurt Yvonne.

Ian's face hardened and he pulled the PS Vita from his pocket, brushing over the buttons to make sure the channeling button wasn't sticking. "Right," he said tersely, still analyzing the situation in the back of his head. If she's that fast she must be light, so she's likely a fragile speedster. Can't be easy to stop once she starts going and it can't take that many hits to bring her down. "Yv, stay back. You're hurt."

James didn't miss a beat. The fireballs Aery had managed to shove in his direction disappeared a few inches from his face, and the rest he flicked into a new position. He was gonna have fun with this. Lara had only said to prevent them from passing; she didn't say s**t about keeping the students alive.

James barely had to twitch the wand to send the fireballs into a new formation; this time a circle, surrounding Aerykah. "Aw jeez, that was a cute trick, Reeks," he said, spinning a Flintlock into existence - this one a .30 caliber pistol - and taking aim. "Doncha know air only makes flames burn hotter, though?"

He fired.

__Her feet are still vibrating, and she was too fast for us to even see. Icarus thought, eyes flickering around. They only had a small timeframe until their annoying pest realized that they were gonna provide a fight.

We're in a clearing, which means she has a lot of room to run around without running into anything. My attacks are definitely going to be too slow to hit her as the situation is right now. If we could alter the terrain, though, I could...

Get her while she was distracted.

"You heard what Gambino said earlier, right, Ian?" Icarus said lowly to his friend. He prepared himself, beginning to direct magic into his right foot. It felt good to do so, now that it was all healed up. "I'm not a big tag-teamer myself, but I suppose I could stand to do it now."

                            Icarus shot Ian a smirk.

Sᴄᴏᴜᴛ

Melanie hardly wavered from her position, watching the two boys exchange a comment. Then the pink one lifted his foot and Melanie's instinct told her that she didn't want him to bring it down.

Calm down, she told herself. These are kids. Kids with much less experience than you. She was the Scout for a reason. Her sharp green eyes flicked over the situation and she quickly understood a few things.

The kid with the pink hair was a mystic. Melanie could sense the magic gathering in his leg. The kid on the left was not, but that game controller looking thing was his channeler, most likely. (She had no idea about the stupid robot, but she'd have to be wary regardless.) The girl was clearly the weakling of the three, judging by how the glasses nerd told her to take cover. He and the pink boy seemed to have something in mind. Whatever they were planning, they weren't going to get to do it. Melanie would see to that.

The Scout ghosted again for additional cover and took off again. First, she slashed the pink kid's calf, much deeper than she'd cut the girl, so the acid would kick in sooner. Then, taking precise aim by shrinking her blade just a tad, she sliced across the nerd-looking kid's forearms. The acid, kicking in shortly, would make using the controller at best difficult and at worst, impossible.

Melanie cut off the ghost and vibrated back into the visible spectrum, holding the blade out towards the three. "I will say it again," she said coolly. "This is as far as you go. If you plan to pick a fight, then you will die." It was hard to tell since her mask was up, but judging from her eyes she seemed to be smirking. "You have already begun dying. My acid will eat at you until there is nothing left to bury."

For a split second, Ian had no idea what the hell Icarus was talking about, and then he did. Was he serious? Did he really think they could pull that off? And then Ian realized they didn't have a choice but to pull it off. If he's thinking interlement then he must be thinking of--

Ian didn't get to finish the thought, crying out as a solid-yet-not blade cut his flesh and blood sprayed. Icarus got hit too, Ian could see his blood. This was bad. He hadn't even seen her move. How were they supposed to take her out if they didn't have time to formulate a plan?

We can't, Ian realized. There's no time to make a plan. We don't have time to vocalize a plan or even think of one - let's just hope we're both thinking of the same thing.

It was about then that Ian realized his arms hurt. Like, really hurt. A sinking feeling in his gut, Ian spared a glance at his gloves. The ragged edges where the girl had cut were tinged a sickly greenish color, and... was it just his imagination or-? Oh s**t. It wasn't. Ian's throat closed up. His gloves were slowly but surely being eaten away.

My skin underneath too, most likely. And everything under that. If they took too long fighting this woman they were going to get eaten away from the outside in.

                                  Well. This wasn't good.

⊰aerykah - sampson⊱
She knew that this wasn't going to be an easy fight going into it. However, now that James had used Flintlock - and trapped her inside fireballs - s**t got more serious. She needed speed, James, as far as she could remember, was impatient. If she kept moving and screwing up his aim, maybe then she could work her way up close. But then there were the fireballs. She could either increase the strength of them and gain control over their direction, but that would waste more of her strength than she needed. If they hit the ground around her, she'd have to get over the flames.

You don't have time to strategize, Aerykah. You need to move and think about it on the way. Don't engage with him.

Looking up, she had a few minutes, tops, before those -- ********, did he just fire? Jumping up, she clapped her hands under her feet, giving her a bit of a boost, over the shot James fired, and mostly over the fireball directly in front of her. Part of her shoe, and her foot, got singed, but that didn't matter right now. Casting Fleet Feet, she tapped her shoes once she reached the ground, and started to weave her way towards James. Letting her hands go behind her, she pushed herself forward with a bit of a gust, needing the speed, and the unpredictability of her location on her side. Aerykah had to land a punch sooner or later, her raw strength and the desire to punch him were growing insatiable.

__ The shock of pain that ripped into his leg was unfamiliar in some ways and familiar in other. Resisting the urge to swear, Icarus immediately stopped channeling magic into his leg. He had a feeling it was only going to make it worse.

God damnit. They were going to really need a healer after this. It was becoming suddenly apparent to Icarus that they were going to be in for a painful fight.

He was more of a defense person, god damnit. Icarus had a feeling that acid was going to dissolve any of his barriers, but hell if he wasn't going to try. Even if there was the smallest chance, then maybe, maybe in those precious seconds they could find some sort of opening.

His leg was burning. It hurt like a b***h, but enough time with Iapyx meant that Icarus knew just how to deal past pain and pretend like it wasn't there.

Tire her out? No, no, not that. He didn't have seconds to waste thinking!

"Yvonne, leave," Icarus hissed, and with his injured leg, he stomped on the ground. He could power through the pain. He could power through the pain. This wasn't anything.

In front of them, part of the earth cracked open.

Yvonne wasted no time backing up but froze at Icarus's order to flee completely - she had just watched them get hurt worse than her. Sure enough, the acid was eating at her sweater, and she could feel her skin burning away. They were in this situation because of her. She shouldn't have come - what was her plan, to Lumos a group of terrorists away? Now they were paying for her mistake, and she was still the one who they were trying to protect.

She ran through her options quickly. Go back to the school? She couldn't take the path. Aerykah and James were that way, and running into them would cause another situation like this. Keep going? She couldn't see beyond the clearing, and more Blood Pact members were probably lurking that way. Stay? More of a nuisance than a help. Run blindly into the forest? Not the smartest idea she'd had in a while, but cover was cover, as long as her arm could last long enough for this whole thing to blow over. Pushing aside the feeling of bile rising in her throat at leaving her friends, she pulled a 180 and ran back into the trees.

"'M sorry," Yvonne choked. Her arm was sizzling now. She forced the pain away, thinking about how much more Icarus and Ian were hurting. They actually had to fight this woman. The ground rumbled with Icarus's magic. She hoped Melanie wouldn't follow.
