Ares blinked and looked at the bird as it waddled out. He was reminded of Starla and scowled. "Oh. . ." he said gruffly. Not having a fondness of waterfowls he wasn't particularly excited about meeting another one.

Sophie sighed. "Or maybe he was scared of me." she said, her eyes glowing with a little spark of irritation. "You know, I've never really liked the type that thinks they know everything." she remarked.

Ares blinked. "You sound like my parents." he said. Then he looked away. "Even though they're the ones who act like they know everything." he said with a slight growl.

Sophie smirked. "Of course. It isn't you at all, right?" she asked sarcastically. She laughed a little bit. "Loosen up. Just leave home for a few days and give yourself and your parents a break."

He looked at her. "I was already planning on that, thank you very much." he said. What right did this girl have to tell him what to do with his life? He only just met her and made one mention of her parents and she assumed what was best for him.

Sophie yawned. "You're welcome." she said with a smirk. "You might as well join me, but I'm afraid my journey away from home is permanent, babe." She pointed to her backpack. "But I took enough money to last until I get a job."

He blinked, a little surprised at her offer. "You just met me and you're offering for me to join you? You must be a really trusting person. . . That or you're really stupid." he said. He wasn't quite sure on how he felt about this opportunity.

Sophie laughed. "What's the most you can do?" she choked out in the middle of her laughter. "Are you going to murder me in your sleep? Rape me? Yeah right. You have that 'I'm trying to be tough but everyone can tell that I'm innocent' thing going on..."

Sophie smiled at the way he was reacting to her comments. "You must be an only child." she said with a smirk. "Too bad you can't be a man." She laughed inside her mind, really starting to have fun with this stranger. "I've been on the road by myself since I was 14."

"I'm totally a man!" Ares yelled. "If I wasn't injured I would kick your butt, even if you're a girl." He clenched his fists as he yelled at her. What right did she have to talk to him like this? Did everyone think they were so much better than him? What made them so great?!

"Then why are you so scared to leave mommy and daddy?" Sophie asked in a baby voice. "I can take you with me because I know you won't try to do anything. Even if you would, you're injured and beating you up would be a piece of cake."

"I'm not scared! I already told you that I was leaving anyway!" he yelled. He could feel his anger rising the more he talked to her. He really wanted to call her out, but after the fight with his parents he knew it wasn't a good idea. Finally, with a big huff, he just turned around and started walking off.
