Safety in numbers. Well she couldn't argue with it, though she never followed that rule. Not that she could help it. In large groups she got uneasy, sometimes even enough so that she became the dangerous element. All that aside...

"Sebastien, Ar...Archib...Okay, Seb it is then." She confirmed with a nod, giving up on his last name. Coffee...she wasn't allowed to drink coffee. That's what doctors told her anyway. No coffee, it made her harder to control, and her blood didn't really call for teh need for caffeine like it would this man, she was sure. "Well, if you want to go get some, sure. I don't drink coffee, but I might find something else to drink." She said. Why not? The thing she had to do was not feel jumpy around the people she was going to work with. And she had to do something anyway, which she needed something to drink to do.

He wasn't tired, if anything he was just trying to ease her up. This wasn't the military where he could joke around and be a bit of an idiot with her, this civilian life now, in a different nation and culture to boot. He never would get over the stares he occasionally got from the older generation, though the younger generation were good, always asking questions and easing up their curiosity. The first class the taught ended up being entirely about his stories back home as a teenager. "Alright, we'll skip coffee. Perhaps something to eat then? Pardon me if I'm coming off wrong, I am just being polite." He was still reeling back from the divorce anyway.

Emily shook her head, lifting a hand to give a small wave of dismissal. "Oh, it doesn't matter to me, sir...I'm, um...not that picky." She assured with a small grin. Her eyes wandered to the female teacher a small distance away, but after a second, she brought her attention back to Sebastien before he'd really think her head was mentally wandering already, which it was. Just a bad attention span, it came with everything else wrong with her.

"That sounds good. Unfortunately, it slipped my mind to eat before I arrived back on campus." Emily said with a small sweatdrop, rubbing the back of her head. It happened. She forgot to do regular activities that people regularly didn't forget to do. It mostly happened when she was busy with something though. She had so many problems focusing, but when she was, she was so into it she'd pay no attention to needs like hunger. "Oh, but I don't know downtown very well...like places we could eat or anything..."

Poor attention span...fantastic. Had she been in a boot camp, she would have been drilled into and forced into several push ups. But again, he didn't have a say. She also mentioned off hand that she didn't know to much about downtown, which was perfect because neither did he. "Well then...we have a quest then...to find food. Then once that's done we go back to the boss and ask for further instructions. Let's hope that b***h didn't suck my account dry..." A wonderful thanks he got from her for serving and protecting her, as every other NATO member. Cheated...then bitter divorce. Absolutely wonderful. "A random noodle bar...or I can cook something at my home. She always said I was a good cook."

Emily nodded. That sounded fine. "I was planning on talking to the Dean again anyway, sometime, for similar reasons, and a couple others." She agreed. She didn't ask about this apparent, "b***h" that sucked his money dry...that didn't sound like any of her business.

"I hear some good things about the places around town, I'd bet they have a noodle bar around somewhere, if it saves you the trouble of having to go back to your place and cooking."

"I've got more paperwork to sort out...including my daughters transfer here in the next week or two." The only reason he was 'offered' the job was that reason...because his ex-wife wanted someone to take the leash of being a responsible parent from her. Perhaps the shame of having a half-bred mongrel of a daughter finally caught up to her so long suppressed elven pride. People thought the French were bad...they had nothing on the Elves. What made it worse was she was a French Elf.

"Alright, well I hear the Shopping District has wonderful noodle bars..." There was a hint of sarcasm in his voice, judging from the fact that he had eaten nothing but noodles since he got here. Waiting for her obviously, he started making his way to the said District.

Emily just looked a bit confused from the tone in his voice when he spoke of the noodle bars, but instead of asking why the tone, she just followed. She peeked in the bag she was putting over her shoulder, pushing the wrapped katana weapon poking out of it aside to see if what she needed was still in her bag. Sighing in her head, she knew she had to take them, or else she'd only be an unwanted handful for this man. Shouldering the bag, she quickly jogged to catch up with him before he got too far ahead.

Philosopher of Magic

George Freeman

I created a theory that could last throughout the ages.
I unified the Magic world and it's laws.
I stood there as an empire fell, since I failed to predict one thing with my equation.
I was there when I was proven right.
I remember being mentioned as the savior.

But I remember none of it.
My memories are of the future.
For now, I am only a school boy.
Creating the formula for the first time.
Sacrificing any chance for love.
For all I need is my books.

George woke up again from his second nap. He really needed to be on a more regular sleep pattern. Wiping the sleep from his eyes, he decided it was time to go to the dorm, fall asleep. He needed food also, but that could wait for now. He could always not eat for a day or two. Nothing too ridiculous. Just a day or two couldn't hurt, could it? He could shave off a pound or so. He was getting a bit hefty from all the lounging around he was doing. Perhaps he should go exercising. So, George picked himself up. Time to go back to the dorm. And figure everything else in the morning.
{Dorm 12}

I can see only one thing in the future: That it will surprise us all.

Captain Michael Sullivan

Traitor to your unit
Butcher of Salaminca
Friend of No one
Why do you continue to fight?

Fight?
This is not fighting.
This is running.
Running from a past you cannot control
Running from who you are.

I am a traitor

I am running

I did butcher those people

I cannot control the past

I have no friends

I am running from myself

I do continue to fight

But it is my decision to make. Not yours

Michael continued observation. Nothing had changed since he had last looked. Except a women had come and left with another man. A boy had just left, having slept his life away. Michael watched. So, when was the first move going to be made? Neither had moved in what seemed like days, but could only be a few minutes at most. Michael took this time to explore his surroundings. He was in the open, but sure he could take out anyone aiming at him, or tried to interfere with his mission.

It wasn’t that she hadn’t moved, it was that time always seemed to slow in situations like this. The presence and movements of others had caused her to slow her pace only slightly, but more in to the point that she headed slightly adjacent towards Seno now. She was attempting to overtake him in a movement past him, instead of heading directly at him.

Parked not far from his bike was her own. And it was that towards which she walked, her pace quickening as boots crossed the pavement. They’d arrive at their respective bikes at roughly the same time, which suited her fine. He was going to run. She was suitable with that. A normal departure from the campus, looking like two individuals who happen to both be in a hurry.

She’d end up having to try and overtake him on the road, but she was confident enough in her own bike that she was fairly sure she could do so.

She finally got close enough to him, and started to overtake him, long hair fluttering behind her as she strode past towards her own bike.

”You don’t belong here, Practitioner. Shall I show you why?” her head turned slightly, and she smiled at him over wire frame glasses, square pupils focusing on him briefly before her head turned back and she beelined for her bike.

Practitioner. That wasn't something he'd heard used as a title in reference to him since he was a child, studying Shinmeiryu at the dojo in Kyoto alongside Motoko and Setsuna. Not only did this woman want him dead, she knew what he was capable of.

And that wasn't the worst of it.

Almost as soon as the woman had spoken, he heard a sharp intake of breath over the open line with Motoko, and he knew from years of familiarity with her that things were about to get serious. He heard her shouting at the other end of the line to the others at the Hinata, distinctly picking out what could only be a mobilization order.

"Hon, listen to me," he said as he yanked on his helmet and started his bike. "Stay. At. Home. You are in no condition for any kind of combat."

"Seno, you don't understand who you are facing. You are going to need all our help. Just stay alive."

The hell? Twisting the accelerator, he roared out of the parking lot, darting into the light traffic even as he reached down to a pouch at his hip, pulling a full-length katana with gold trimming from within and clipping it to special attachment hooks built onto the side of the vehicle's frame.

Motoko had heard and feared her? Good. It meant she was still a demon. Not that she’d heard the conversation, but still, it would have been a nice ego boost if she had.

As his bike roared to life, she tugged her jacket on, using it to pin down her hair, she gave the accelerator a twist and shot off across the lot after him, pulling a katana from the frame of her bike where it had been hidden, she twisted the blade and secured it within easy reach, her bike picking up speed as she went.

The motorcycle chase, the fight on the highway, the bloodbath in Osaka. None of it mattered to the young girl who’d closed off her senses and was perched beneath the shadow of the World Tree, sketching it in the moonlight. It was chilly, and so she’d folded herself into a jacket, and her fingers moved a mechanical pencil in slow small strokes across the sketchpad that was folded on her lap. She’d decided since she’d arrived at Mahora that the tree would be perfect for a scene in her manga.

It was such an incredible size and height, and so beautiful! Each leaf was detailed carefully, and the panels on her pages changed, showing the tree in increased size, then panning out, and a man and woman standing beneath it, staring at the moon. It was a classic scene, a heroine and her hero gazing up before a tremendous battle. Still, despite the coolness in the air, Hanako worked with something of a smile on her face, singing softly beneath her breath.

She was sitting in her ‘zone’, and for her, that was a good place to be. Sometimes, absolute obliviousness wasn’t a bad thing.

He'd been thankful the fight moved elsewhere. It wasn't his business if it wasn't on campus. He'd fallen asleep inside the branches of the tree, and not paid attention to what was going on. There were so many things happening, yet he didn't seem to pay attention. No, that was for another time. Yet, as he dozed, and it drifted into night time, he couldn't help but hearing something that caught his attention. Was that someone singing? At this hour? He stared down towards the ground, and tipped his head. What a pretty voice. Was she sketching? He couldn't tell what from here, but it looked like she was drawing. He leapt from branch to branch slowly, skidding down and gently arriving on the ground. He walked forward slowly, and looked over at her sketchpad. It was obvious she was in the same place he was earlier. That place where nobody else was noticed. So he just stood there. He watched her draw, and listened to her sing.

For a while, he just enjoyed how she sounded. Still, he couldn't just sit and stand over her shoulder forever. He waited until it seemed like she was finally out of her daze, and from there, he conjured up, out of sight of course, a single red rose, and placed it before her face, slowly.

"It is beautiful, is it not? It is truly a wonder of nature in all its forms. I can scarcely believe how tall it is."

She didn’t notice when Jenayo moved behind her. She was too caught up in the sketch she was working on to worry about it. When he finally did interrupt though, she gave a slight intake of breath, and her hand immediately moved across her sketch pad. Her eyes however, were focused on the rose in front of her, and she cast a look upwards, her breath catching for a different reason, as she took the rose carefully, avoiding the thorns on the stem.

"It really is, " her voice was soft, and she turned her gaze back towards the tree, nodding at it. "I wonder why it grew so tall. It’s so… it reminds me of how small we really are. Something so massive, so steady and so unbending. Like the rest of the world could just melt away and it would still be there, watching the rest of us pass it by, branches swaying in the breeze."

"Indeed. But then, that is how the earth itself is, is it not? We are simply those who wander here. We simply think we own the land. It isn't the case, but naturally, most won't realize it."

He smiled and let go of the rose. What a pretty girl. So she was a student, then? Ah dear. He always did find the pretty ones. Maybe it was just bad luck, after all, then. He couldn't really flirt too much with a student, but if nothing else, he could be friendly.

"I'm Jenayo. I'm an assistant teacher here. Are you enrolled in the school?"
