I was under the assumption that Richard is the leader of EA, period. A-0 is a small sub-group under his direct control. That's why I thought it was only the four of them... =/ Someone can clarify for me if they want.
As for goals, it could really be anything Richard wants if what I said previously is the case.

it could've still been Richard's idea to form the A-0 though
i dunno. we can put the A-0 into divisions if you like, and have those four as division 1 or something (like the ace team, or the only ones who pilot special gundams). dunno....
goals of the A-0: to gain recognition and authority over the ORB military? XD that could be linked to conflicts with Project Eternity.
dunno about it being anti-coordinator. i believe we are sorta moving away from coordinator vs. naturals. but it does make sense to still have the A-0 team all naturals.
and it probably would be a good idea to have them as a radical team. most likely it'll deal with the plans for Earth and the military control of it. not too sure about much else though.
what do you guys think?

Well, let me try to explain. In Destiny, Orb formed an alliance with Earth to fight against ZAFT. But then near the end, that alliance was ended after Cagalli gained control of her country again. The EA has always been jealous (or at least I think that) of Orb's military power and technological advances. Which is why Azrael had them being attacked in SEED. The EA has tried to gain Orb's power by having them form an alliance with them, but it didn't work to their advantage. So, maybe this is their way of getting revenge...or getting even. Or in your words (not exactly to the degree), their way to prove that perhaps they don't need Orb and can overpower it themselves. Which is probably why A-0 was formed.
Scenario:
Richard Henderson wanted to make a name for the twice fallen Earth Alliance. ZAFT was greatly influenced by the fierced, but gentle words of the pink princess Lacus Clyne. Orb was gaining stability under the guidance of the daughter of the Lion of Orb, Cagalli. And now a new nation has risen in the Alliance's own backyard under a highly ambitious leader known as Audrina Kavira.
As the Alliance's new leader, he had a lot on his shoulders to work with and a lot of people waiting to see if he could succeed where others have failed. The PLANTs and Orb were highly advanced in technology and he knew that they were slowly catching up to their level as well. So, there was no need to trouble himself in that department. So, he looked at the other part...the military.
Two wars, twice failed. The people were weak and no matter with what new biological break-through scientist come up with, it still didn't give them the advantage they needed in war. So, he began to plan privately in his quarters. As his plan began to evolve in his mind he began sharing it with the few that he entrusted this sort of information with. They began searching and filing through potential candidates.
"They have to be the best." His idea was to create an elite team of pilots that were known for their exceptional skills. This group was to be known as Absolute Zero. It would be a group that only Richard himself had control over and that were only used for the more serious of missions. They were to rival that of the best in Orb and even ZAFT.
"But, sir! The war is over. Why are we working so hard to create a team of elite pilots? Wouldn't that propose a threat?"
Richard only smirked. "Peace won't last forever. Besides, the thought only seemed promising. It was a plan that I had to see through. It was only a thought, but you never known when there may come a time for me to use pilots like these." He said only months before the incident with the Princess on the PLANTs.
Okay, I was only trying to give an idea, but it seems like I took Gaara's character and made my own post of it. Sorry. ^_^;

I thought A-0 was something akin to the Girty Lue, but yeah... =/ I won't confuse myself further.
In this case, do the pilots in A-0 know what they're doing? Or are they oblivious to their cause? As far as Tanya knows, she's just been promoted...

hmmm....how about SOME of the know...and SOME of them don't. it would make an interesting plot twist if they split into different factions...
none of them are dying are they? all the EA guys somehow die, and that i guess it made sense. but dying is pointless...you know? XD

we should put down an explanation as to why and how they developed the mobile suites. i mean, the EA is a radical group that technically belongs to ORB now. i'm sure ORB wouldn't provide them the facilities to build these new machines. so where did they come from?
the OR being a nation would probably have a facility to build them at. we'll need a name for that too won't we?
and i suppose Terminal still exists.

for the EA's MAs...i'd say they were made by the Atlantic Confederation. i'd suggest in this series we dismantle that too in the end XD that would be fun
OR faculty name? hmm....difficult....
yeah, Terminal should still exist. XD what is the OR stole the MSs from Terminal, and then Ryoku and Tarren steal it fom the OR? XD that would be hilarious, but it would make sense
that explains why Audrina's MS/MA will be so different.

maybe audrina's military originally worked for the clyne faction, and once the new republic came along it appealed to them and they decided to join the OR...dunno

I highly doubt that there would be many (even few) that would go against Lacus beliefs unless they highly don't tolerate Naturals like those of the Zala faction. Which is considerably hypocritcal if they were to join with the OR since it's like Orb, a place for both Naturals and Coordinators.

year, the idea was kinda farfetched...
dunno how else to explain if it we want to use it though. i mean, terminal makes some awesome MSs, and technically the only technology we've seen the OR use was to create a superpowered MA (completely different)

Well...perhaps we can say that they opened up the terminal for all nations to use as some sort of a peace offering. That all nations may borrow technology from there as they please under the condition that they don't use it to create weapons that may bring harm to other nations.
Or...we could just say that the Oceanic Republic made an alliance with them and are just using their technology for their own personal means secretly. Somewhat like how the EA used Orb's technology to make the Gundams secretly on Heliopolis.
