L Y Z Z A C I O U S` DB stargazer42 Dressage is the basis and foundation of ALL good riding. It allows you to have complete control over your horse and your body. To succeed in dressage you have to be in control. You can't just flail around like a rag doll all the time. And yes Cherry, dressage most certainly IS important. Jumping may be more fun, but dressage improves your jumping.

Dressage is the least-taxing on a horse's joints, as everything that is done in dressage is done in the wild as well, including the higher-level movements. 3nodding
I ride dressage, and I can school up to third level, but I can only show up to first level, and I can train riders up to training level, and I don't know about horses. I'm currently training my own horse right now, but I haven't worked him in like a month and a half because of the weather and he's been lame (although I'm hoping that I get to put him back to work by friday...)

No, since I've had him for about 4 months now, he hasn't been lame the whole time, but he's been lame for a while.

Yes, he is a QH- or, at least that's what his old owners said. I think he might have some TB or arab in his bloodlines recently, like in the past few generations, though.You're welcome!^^ Wow I thought he was only QH and DNA tests can always lead you the way.^^

I wish I could school / show higher than I do, but I don't mind. I'm advancing with Shay slowly but surely, and hopefully one day I might get up to PSG. <4

I would see if I could get a DNA test, but I have no money. D; I've been spending it all on essentials for training and stuff. And my parents don't have the money to pay for it right now, so...yeah. I don't mind not knowing. ^w^

Uh-huh, they made the most changes to fourth level. It's cool, they change the tests every four years after hearing what the judges, scribes and riders say about the current tests.

I feel so misrepresented. Us hunter/jumpers gotta have some attention! I haven't shown since last year. But I was not tdoing to goodon the horse I was riding, then. I might show my horse soon, but it will only be xrails, he isn't really a jumper. He is more dressage.

stargazer42 Brat_and_a_half i would consider "basic dressage" everything u do up to the end of level 1 tests. like, shoulder in, leg yeild, lengthening strides, 2 tracking (all that kind of bending on and off the rail, but not all the way to half pass, thats harder), shortening strides (becoming slightly "collected"), being able to be round consistantly, knowing the normal patterns (like cirles, 10, 12, 15, 20, serpintines, etc.). thiese are things u should find in any truely broke/trained horse in all english diseplins. and if the horse is really easy, u have a school master on ur hands, lol. oh, ok, i was just guessing, those all just seemed like rather basic things to me i thought theyd be at a lower level. and about 2 tracking, it doesnt have to be a "saddleseat" thing, its just part of basic flat work. thats all that basic dressage really is, is general flat work that many people practice in many english disiplines without thinking about it. i just basically mean that a horse should be supple and move off leg easily and the rider should be able to control the speed, tempo, rhythm of the horse (and ribs)

i really like the new tests too. the thing i really like is that the coefficient for the rider is now 3 insted of 2. i think its smart, now the little kids that are just riding the horse perfectly trained by their trainer lose more marks! heh heh heh ninja
