Sorry...someone in another rp I'm in as been driving me crazy; I was in a bad mood. I shouldn't have taken it out on you guys...
Please forgive my rudeness...
What sort of profile guidelines do you mean? Can I help at all?

Naw, it's fine. I didn't really mind, just felt that it needed a negative response. :I
Just some rules to keep the profiles in check.

It probably did...
That might depend on the rp. I mean, for the powers one (forget which one it was), you could limit the number of powers people have. For the shape-shifters, you could put a limit on which animals people can be.
You could require people to take a mary sue litmus test, but I dunno if they'd actually do it and be honest about it.

Well, taking the full test developed for original fiction would probably be a pain in the butt, but I think we could develop a shorter, more of a quick check-list type of test specific to each roleplay world. How does that sound?

I'm still not sure people would actually take them, but at least it would give some pointers, I guess.
We could still use the basic ones for all of them, like "Does your character have a name totally unfitting to their country/nationality, is it hyphenated unnecessarily or unpronounceable?" I mean, random Americans shouldn't have Japanese names, it doesn't make sense.

Absolutely. But when I looked at the test again and remembered how long and dense it was, I started to think it might be more user-friendly for the, erm, learning-to-be-literate roleplayers to create a check list for each RP. It would still be long-ish and they might not do it, but I figure that way we could cut out the things unrelated to each RP universe in hopes of making it shorter, and would also get to add in some things per RP universe that the test may not necessarily catch.

If revising the test sounds too complicated or like too much work (I would gladly volunteer to do most of them, but I think at least the crew and up would have to all agree on each check list before it was posted, which means getting everyone to come in and discuss/vote), perhaps we could put a spot on profile skeletons for the character's Mary-Sue Litmus Test score, and not accept profiles that are missing any required field including the score.

Calais Reed So, now that (as I predicted) no one's said anything here in a while, and you've gotten your gaming out.... What are we going to do? I've been writing and directing my first short-film series for a YouTube project pioneering the genre of video fanfiction and defining the defense of creative rights of amateur fun space, children's play and fandom tributes in the public domain. I have yet to remain absent from posting in the guild for over 10 days, have been reading this thread daily though I have not always had input to add, and in the meantime have been posting and participating in small game threads in the OOC forum to keep members active and welcome new ones into the guild despite the halted state of what appears to be all guild RPs. Calais Reed Sorry...someone in another rp I'm in as been driving me crazy; I was in a bad mood. I shouldn't have taken it out on you guys... Please forgive my rudeness... What sort of profile guidelines do you mean? Can I help at all? Forgiven.

I was thinking that, but people could lie, or they could take the test incorrectly... And besides, those tests aren't always entirely accurate. We may be best off just giving some guidelines, and judging for ourselves.

That's the whole reason we are making the new guidelines, so they don't need to take a test, they can't lie, and we don't get Mary-Sues.
About the name thing. I don't like that. I, personally, love using unusual names from different countries. We don't have the right to limit what somebody's NAME can be. That is not alright. Anybody can use any name, no matter their gender or background. That can be a rule.

IrksomeCat That's the whole reason we are making the new guidelines, so they don't need to take a test, they can't lie, and we don't get Mary-Sues. So, as in, they fill it out along with their profile?

((IrksomeCat again. Didn't want to log into my account. ^-^)) No, as in, they just do their profile and put it up, then based on the guidelines we set in place, we decide whether it is good or not. No tests. Just cold, hard judgement. >8]
