When your own name starts to sound foreign...

Ɍαιиє- Aɱɑυяɤ☩

Raine was back in the damned house. Her hair fixed with jewels and her body constricted with a fancy bodice. The girl's face was washed up, and she looked like a woman... How was it that she was here? Raine looked around to she pondered how she got there. The air smelt of fine perfumes and cooking, yes this was real... "C-comment ? Ce n'est pas ainsi!" The frightened girl stuttered. This had to be a nightmare. Maid came rushing up to Raine, heads bowed in respect, each held out a different type of dress. Raine was about to refuse the offers, but he walked in... William. The man she remembered playing with as a child. The one who pulled her hair, and dismantled her dolly... Yes, the monster that was to be her groom. He picked the crimson looking dress, and most rudely shooed the help out of the room. The girl covered herself, cursing him in all her anger, but he seemed to have just as much steam, and back at Raine with a closed hand.

The girl screamed as she woke up. It wasn't the fact the William had hit her, but it was that she was married to him. Raine looked around the room, and sighed. She was, once again, in Max's chamber's. What had happened? The girl lifted a hand to her head,
"It was a nightmare..." Her head felt like it split in two, and once again... Her wraps were loose. The girl flushed with embarrassment. Had she really fainted? That was possibly worse than loosing it in front of a rebel.

Raine stood, and wrapped herself again. Max was no where to be seen, so she simply grabbed her belongings, and slipped out the back. Hopefully her scream hadn't alerted him earlier. The soldier walked the path of a near empty road, rubbing her hands together to keep warm. She kept her wrap a bit looser this time... To avoid a reply of today episodes. She didn't to go to the infirmary... That would be bad. Even if she did have to report Max, maybe he would give her up. He seemed... Decent enough?

Raine stopped dead in her tracks, perhaps her sword was in the pawn shop. Those rebels were always trying to make profit off things that weren't theirs. The girl crossed the street, and entered the town pawn shop. Trinkets, clocks, weapons, absolutely everything was in this store. It had to be here. Raine walked around, trying to spot her loved one... There...The sword was hung on the wall along with a few other blades, but hers the by the far the grandest!
"Vous y êtes!" The man behind the counter gave her a dirty look. Oh yes, this was Luxembourg alright... "How much, sir? It belonged to a dear friend of mine. He's no longer with us. Please, it would mean the world to me! The man seemed resistant, but finally stomped over to the wall in which Raine's sword hung. He looked it over, and looked at the girlish looking French soldier, "How much do you have?" His voice was thick in a German accent, which made Raine flinch. She was just about to answer when she realized her money ouch was missing. Oh, Max would pay for this. In the mean time she had to stall. The girl really want her sword back. "Can you hold it for me? Yes? I promise I'll get the money for you. I come from a wealthy family. I'm good on my- Oh no!" Raine hid behind a few of the larger pawns, and peered out the window. That wasn't who she thought it was... Was it?

||OoC|| C-comment ? Ce n'est pas ainsi!: H-how? This isn't so!

With a few words of German to the right people, William found that many of the townspeople had seen the girlish French soldier. Some made fun of 'him', and Denmark had to laugh along with them. Perhaps Raine hadn't hid herself as well as he thought. Pity- he was almost beginning to enjoy the challenge. Tipping his hat to several people as they passed, he came to stand outside a row of small shops."Excuse me, friend." He addressed a passerby with a small smile, "Could you direct me to the nearest- I'm sorry. Would you excuse me one moment?" He had seen a familiar face in the window of the pawn shop on the corner. He couldn't tell if it had been Raine or not- but it had certainly looked like her.

Knowing she wouldn't hesitate in leaving if she thought he was coming, he gave a brief farewell to the confused passerby, and walked a short way down the street, out of sight of the shop's front windows. Making his way back toward the shop from the side, he was pleased to find that there was a second entrance. Removing his hat, he opened the door quietly. The shopkeeper seemed apathetic to his arrival, if he had noticed at all. How fortunate. It simply made it that much more pleasurable to step close behind the girl. There was no denying it now- it was definitely Raine.

With a smile that would have made a demon shiver with delight, he ran his hands smoothly down her arms, and wrapped his fingers around her wrists tightly, holding them in place as he brought his lips close to her ear, "Ne sont pas vous adorable? Habillé comme un petit soldat." Planting a small kiss on the girl's neck, he tightened his grip on her wrists to the point that it was likely painful, "We were all very hurt when you left, my darling. Obviously- I've come all the way to this godforsaken place just to bring.. you.. home." The last words of the sentence were filled with a sadistic pleasure. It was clear he would have liked nothing more than to cause her pain for the troubles she had caused him.

The shopkeeper was fixing them both with an odd stare- slowly coming to two different realizations, and not knowing which one he should accept.
Turning the girl around as he fixed both of her petite wrists in one of his hands, he brought the other to lift her chin so that he might get a better look at her face, "Oh.. But... You don't seem very happy to see me, ma chere. Could it be that you still don't agree with this marriage? It's not as if either of us has a choice."

He gave a mock pout, before continuing, "It's really very simple. We dress up nice, we say the vows, and we give each other a little kiss-" At that he planted a brief kiss on the girl's lips- which likely sent her into a fury, "-and then we live out the rest of our lives happily married- perhaps with a few children. Not all bad, am I right?"

Kommst im Abendglühn daher, Find' ich dich im Sternenheer, Dich, du Menschenfreundlicher, Liebender!

Maximillion
----------------------------------
The clock maker could almost feel himself falling asleep once more when a sudden thought struck him. He had finished the pawn shop owner's pocket watch. It seemed like god had answered his sarcastic rather comically. Why couldn't he just get a nap? That was all he really wanted! Sighing to himself as he got to his feet, Maxillion went over to his study's desk and opened up a little leather booklet that was contained several hundred deutsch marks. Quickly pulling two bills from the thin booklet, Maximillion folded them up with some haste as he began searching for his own coin purse.

Maxi was getting ready to tear apart his room again, it was close to a constant state of messiness, when he heard Amaury shifting around on his bed. That was about the only thing that caused him to stop his campaign of destruction since it caused him to look at her, before returning back to see desk. His eyes just so happened to fell onto his coin purse and another one next to it. Two...oh right, Max had almost forgot about how he looted soldier girl and received a rather light coin purse. He had been hoping for more, but then it'd contradict his desire to carry around french money.

Rolling his eyes, as he could almost feel her wrath already, Max grabbed both purses and stuffed them into one of his jacket's inner pocket. Realizing the ridiculousness of having only two bills, the clock maker quickly unfolded the two he already had, put them back in the leather booklet and then stowed the very same booklet into a different inner pocket.

With his funds securely against his torso, Maxi practically ran to his workshop where he picked up the box that held the pocket watch while telling Christoph, in German, that the store was closed for today, should anyone stop by. Shop taken care of, and package in hand, Maximillion almost sprinted to the pawn shop when he realized that there was no rush. Where had that desire come from? Maybe it was from his usual tardiness to most things as a kid, that caused him to run every where.
He didn't even realize that he might've been making a fool of himself, since most of the town was accustom to his odd delivery methods.

Finally reaching the pawn shop, which oddly enough happened to be just a block or two away from his house, Maximillion casually walked into the shop and was greeted with a familiar accent.
"Güten Morgen, Herr Jäger"
"Güten Morgen, I... ah, lemme catch my breath." Maxi panted as he placed the package on the counter, before inhaling dramatically. "For me I take it, mein Freund."
"Es ist kein klar, mein Freund?" Max ended the comment with a smirk on his face, which caused the man to laugh. Max could always make the man laugh, during their little encounters. Usually it was for really hard to find gears or springs, which brought Maxi to him, but today it wasn't.
"Well have a look around, someone recently came in with a load of scrap metal." The clock maker smiled at the pawn shop owner's comment, while he mouthed 'Danke' and went over to the corner that housed the scrap metal.

He didn't know how long he had been, but the sound of the door opening did catch his attention. Shame, it didn't keep his attention long enough for him to look up... though when he heard that unmistakable french accent, he head shot up. What was Amaury doing here? He was pretty baffled until he saw her point towards a sword. 'Stark, just what I need!' However, she seemed to have hit a snag when she checked for her change purse... a purse that wasn't there since it was in Max's jacket. The clock maker was already making his way forward towards the counter, to preoccupied to notice that Raine had stopped to hide behind some of the larger objects within the store.

Once at the counter, Maxi pointed to the sword as he pulled out his leather booklet. "How much?"
"Normally, it'd be twenty marks but I can make an exception since it's you... so ten marks." Maximillion nodded in agreement, surprised by the fact that the man was willing to sell it so cheap, not hearing the other door open. Pulling out a a bill that read Zehn Deutsch Mark, Max set it on the counter and was surprised to see that the clerk had the sword on the counter as well, despite him being... stunned by whatever was going on behind him. Shooting a quick glance over his shoulder, Maxi was stunned to see another man...embracing? Yeah embracing would fit, the soldier girl named Amaury. That was certainly odd, didn't her unrequited lover just die an hour ago or so?! And now she was flirting with some gentlemen!? The gall she had, threatening him earlier!

Sword in one hand, and soldier girl's coin purse in the other, Maxi decided to do something rather uncharacteristic of himself. He was going to confront her more or less, and lead her away. Walking up to the two, with an idea in his sleep-depraved mind, Maximillion cleared his throat as he came to a stop. Well, he didn't mean to but it was better then tapping them on the shoulder. "Soldat! I believe I have something of yours, which I'm sure you'd gladly accept if you could." The clock maker's comment was rather pointed, though it was sincere in regards to what he had for Amaury... who just had to reach out and grab the hilt since Maximillion could plainly see the distress in her face. He couldn't confront her anymore if she was in trouble!

((Es ist kein klar, mein Freund?= Isn't it obvious my friend? Stark= awesome... oh gods what have I done?!}}

Raine could have sworn she seen William. Perhaps it was just from her nightmare earlier? It did make since. The girl was about to turn around when a hand ran down her arm... It was unmistakable... He actually came for her! The gall of some men! A paralyzing shiver ran down Raine's back, as William spoke, "S-sûrement vous devez vous tromper, Monsieur." The girl even tried to lower her voice as she spoke as if that would disguise her enough to fool her groom to be.

The kiss made Raine freeze with terror, there was no way out of this.
"Don't... She insisted on keeping her cover, but him putting his lips anywhere near her... It was repulsive! Then his grip on her wrists became slightly painful, Raine winced. Was this what her life would be like? This was in the public eye... What would he do in private? The girl pulled slightly on her wrists, trying to free them, because his last sentence frightened her. He wanted to bring her home? Of course he did, but it didn't seem real. "Go home alone." She hissed. Her cover was blown, but he already knew it was her... Didn't he?

William turned Raine around, moving her so wrists were uncomfortably pushed together. Her response was to spit by him, and to glare into his direction. If he thought she was coming home with her... He was dead wrong. Then the man brought his scaly hands to her face, lifting her chin, and spoke again. The soldier girl let him continue before she would respond. However, when he kissed he, stealing her first kiss, Raine went ballistic...
"Vous dégoûtant le morceau de saleté! Comment osent vous poser ces choses sur moi ?! Je ne me marierai pas avec vous! Jamais!" The girl kicked William in the shin, and broke one of her hand free. She was going to punch Mr. Denmark, however, Max showed up with none other than her sword. Raine smirked with a bit of smugness, grabbing the hilt, and placing the cold metal by William's nape. "I suggest you leave. Send my regards to mother." Raine gave Max a thankful nod, and kept an eye on the man in front of her.

||OoC|| Sûrement vous devez vous tromper, Monsieur.: S-surely you must be mistaken, Sir. Vous dégoûtant le morceau de saleté! Comment osent vous poser ces choses sur moi ?! Raine was less than cooperative, to be sure. At first, she even tried to act like he'd mistaken her for someone else. It became clear to her, however, that he wasn't going to play along with her little charade. She voiced her disgust at the prospect of their marriage, which only earned a chuckle from him. Even her expected tantrum was a bit amusing- until, however, he felt a sharp pain as the girl kicked him in the shin.
He nearly went down on one knee, but a blade against his neck kept him standing. William's eyes turned to the stranger who had given Raine the blade, and even in his current position, he managed a smile, "I have to admit I'm surprised. I couldn't imagine you might have made friends, Raine. Not with your... Admirable personality." He glanced down at the blade as he put emphasis on the word.

Holding his hands up, he gave a slight laugh, "I think you've made your point. You took on a different identity and became a soldier just to get away. I can honestly say I am impressed." He took a few steps back, putting space between them, and getting the blade away from his throat, "I suppose our families will be disappointed, but I'm sure that's hardly a concern in your eyes." A slight frown played across his lips, giving the man a very sinister demeanor for a brief moment, "Very well. I'll let you play soldier, ma chere. Perhaps you'll change your mind in the near future."

He caught Raine's icy look, and his smile returned, "I suppose that's unlikely. Au revoir, ma chere." He turned to leave, but something seemed to occur to him. He glanced at the girl thoughtfully, before turning to face her completely, "Pourvu que je suis ici.. Je suis curieux.. Le petit soldat français fait-il son travail aussi efficacement que possible ? Nous sommes en guerre avec l'Allemagne, mon chéri-" He turned his eyes toward Raine's acquaintance, "J'espère que vous faites attention dans choisir vos amis." A low chuckle escaped his throat as he turned and made his way out the door, "Et vos ennemis, bien sûr."

(( Pourvu que je suis ici.. Je suis curieux.. Le petit soldat français fait-il son travail aussi efficacement que possible ? Nous sommes en guerre avec l'Allemagne, mon chéri- - As long as I am here.. I'm curious.. Is the little French soldier doing her job as effectively as possible? Christoph Landa

【Noble intentions can be found…】

〖The musician was rather impressed by the amount of skills the girl known as Sabine had. Could she really do all of those things? He probably had the greatest surprise when she spoke of her ability to play the harp. Oh, how he always wanted to play one! Alas, the school he attended couldn't afford one and the general consensus was that it was a woman's instrument, like the sewing needle or dishes. That had spurned the young Landa at the time, since he didn't see how it could be considered such a thing when it made such beautiful music.

He was about to respond to her rather, curious question... the one about himself when Max slipped past the table they were sitting at in a blur. He was shouting something in German, about how he was closed or something. It didn't much matter to Christoph since he could easily rely it to Maximillion's customers. Hell, if his remember was correct... it was one of the day's Max usually spent just fixing clocks. Glancing back at Sabine, Christoph just shrugged at her before deciding to comment. "Ja...Maxi seems to be a bit preoccupied at the moment. But he usually is a good man...Hmm, no I didn't grow up here. I grew up in the Saarland, of west Germany."

Herr Landa was about to add that he seemed rather tired today, and might've explain his rather odd behavior when he remembered about her other question. One that had much more relevance to the current situation than explaining where he was from. Cause it would eventually lead to why he was currently here, and he had not spent the last seventeen years parading around as a musician for the entire town to learn about his 'noble' birth.

"Eh, I don't play much for anyone, aside from the odd church request. I'm proficient with the string bass, though I prefer to play the violin or the piano if they have." Christoph spoke with a rather elated undertone, since it had been quite a while from any discussion that involved music and the performance of such. So, it might be a little understandable if he was a bit giddy. "So... what did you have in mind regarding my musical talents?"

Maximillion
----------------------------------
Maximillion's face wore a rather annoyed feature, considering how disruptive the entire thing had been. He just hoped, this...man, or whomever Amaury was betrothed. It seemed entirely unnecessary to do such a thing in the middle of a fine shop, not to mention one of Maxi's own customers', when a perfect good alley way was less than five meters away! The nerve of the nobles sometimes disgusted the clockmaker.

Despite how much he could hated his unofficial rebel title; Der Jäger von Echternach, he had to admit in came in handy from time to time if it meant keeping things quiet for him and his business. Shaking his head as he stuffed the french coin purse into his pocket, Max had hoped to spend less than twenty marks today but alas it wasn't so. Reaching the counter where the clerk was behind, the clock maker pulled out another bill and placed it on the counter while looking the clerk in the eye. "Das Stillschweigen..."
The clerk just eyed the extra twenty marks Max set down, before hesitantly reaching out to take it. He had just learned something really unusual, and he would take it to his grave. "...Das Stillschweigen"

Jäger only nodded before he paced back to the front and grabbed soldier girl's wrist. They were going to have some words, and they were going to be now! Quickly pulling out the side entrance, Maximillion pulled her into an alley before pushing her up against the closest wall and pinning her. The satisfactory clank of metal on clobber just caused him to darken his features as he glared at Amaury.

"What the hell was that!" Maxi whispered rather harshly as he held her against the wall. "That wasn't ******** necessary!... drawing a bloody sword in boards day light!? In middle of a shop no less! You're lucky I was the only one other person there, besides the clerk." Yes, Herr Jäger was sufficiently pissed and the fact that he was probably going to be accused of murders he didn't commit didn't help the matter very much. "You know, I planned on taking your secret to the grave but with that little stunt and your threat from early, I think someone's superiors would like to here what I have to say! Don't you think so?!"

When your own name starts to sound foreign...

Ɍαιиє- Aɱɑυяɤ☩

William had some nerve... For even with a blade pressed to his throat, he acted as if he had the upper had! Raine was tempted to slice his pathetic body into ribbons. Then to speak like he knew her business! "Don't speak of my life like you know it, William. Because in reality Max wasn't her friend, nor did they act as such. The fact the man was making jokes was not helping his case, Raine was ready to run her sword through his cold flesh.

Then William started to take his steps. He was... Retreating? Raine made an unsure face, this was not like William. This man would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Even as a kid, if she didn't bend to his will... He'd find some way to make it so. Though... He found out a long time ago, that was no easy task.
"Pas Guillaume probable, Cher. Raine hissed to his comment about changing her mind. Why would she do that? To live with an abusive husband, who could possibly kill her later on? Non, she would not bend to this.

The ice that was shared between the two could have frozen over hell and more. It was obvious the two wanted nothing more then to cause the other harm, but was restrained by something... William by pure greed, and Raine by that fact she just couldn't do it. It was also the fact the French court would have her head, literally, because her family wouldn't save her then. Then the girl sneered at her long time 'playmate' as he left with his cold words.
"Tu es stupide.... Très stupide." It was directed at William of course. She sincerely thought he was in some aspects. Of course the man was book smart, Raine was too... Which was why their families forced the two together. However, his social IQ lacked.

Suddenly, the girl was being pulled out of the pawnshop. She looked over to see Max tugging on her wrist, which still hurt from William's earlier assault.
"What are you doing? At least let go of my wrist!" Raine winced from the pain in her arm. It was likely to bruise, but nothing more. That damned man. Max drug the soldier girl to an alley, and slammed her into a wall, which surprised her enough to drop her sword. He pinned her to the wall, and began to interrogate her, again... "Excuse me? But you do not know that man. He is pure evil. So yes, it was quite necessary. If I hadn't taken out my sword.. You would probably have an open throat, and I would be tied up... On a carriage on my way to France. Raine sort of laughed at Max's ignorance to William's power. He wasn't done... William was far from finished. That was the scary part. The Max spoke again, now it did even matter... She could probably go tell them herself... But the fact that Max was threatening her was a splinter in her eye, an irritation... "Report me? Sir, I don't think you know the importance of killing a French soldier, accident or not. You see, where I come from... You can get hung for stealing a pear for the sake of survival. It doesn't matter anyway. With William here, it's over for me. Report me... I don't care. Make sure you report Vicent's death... Those damned rebels... You couldn't get there in time, right, Max?" Raine didn't look at Max... Her emotions were getting best of her again. She didn't want to go back to that house. Her friend just died... And William was here... Life wasn't getting much better for the girl.

Raine pointed down to her sword,
"Thanks for getting my sword back." It was the nicest she had been to him, but she had to show her real side before it was all over, after all... He did do something nice for her. The girl's sword meant a lot... Especially since Vincent was actually the one to get it for her. He didn't like the one she had... Said it wasn't good enough... What a goofball. Raine bit back a sob that threaten to surface. "You might want to leave before William returns." Still the girl did not look at Max, she was afraid if she did.... The tears would start all over again.

Kommst im Abendglühn daher, Find' ich dich im Sternenheer, Dich, du Menschenfreundlicher, Liebender!

Maximillion
----------------------------------
The clock maker sighed to himself as she listed reason after reason, about how he had most assuredly made an enemy today. Ooh, some french noble. Scary! Honestly, this man...William seemed like the normal type of nobility. He's flaunt his power and probably thinks that the world is his for the taking, won't take no for an answer since Daddy said he could have anything... the real annoying type of nobles.

However, that wasn't what caused him to lighten his hold on her. Oh no, he wasn't phased by her reiteration of his supposed jail sentence. No, what struck him to the core and pulled on the strings of his heart was the fact that she seemed ready to cry again, and that he was the cause of it. That was just unfair that she decided to play that card. It wasn't because he liked her, gods no! At best she seemed to be a rather aloof woman, at worst an arrogant b***h that probably had nationalistic issues. It was because he could so easily replace an image of her, with an image of one of his sisters.

That was what spooked him, and also caused him to take a step back. Despite the sudden, emotional lash, Maxi would not return. "Your...your welcome, 'Amaury.' Oh, I also want to return your coin purse to you." His hand was basically a flash of light colored flesh as he pulled out the purse and gently put it in her delicate hand. "...And I'm not going to be going back until you're okay or I until I know William won't be hurting you."

Despite how odd it look, Maximillion was genuinely appalled by the act that William displayed. While he did believe that if someone attacked him, man or woman, that he'd strike back with an equal force, the belief lent itself into allowing him to perceive hitting women as a bad thing. (Unless they did it first, of course) She didn't soften the blow in anyway, with her final comment regarding Vincent's death. Had she really stopped caring because of one man? Shaking his head, Maxi took another step closer before wrapping her arms around her in an attempted hug.

He might never be able to show her how sorry he was for Vincent, since he wasn't originally but now started to feel guilty, and decided to try now. "I'm sorry about Vincent, you're right I should've checked but you seem to have something bigger on your mind... would you care to explain why William is a threat to you... perhaps I can earn your forgiveness by helping."

When your own name starts to sound foreign...

Ɍαιиє- Aɱɑυяɤ☩

Why was it that when Raine tried warn someone of William... They never listened? It was frustrating enough this man had her pinned against a wall, demanding answers, but when he got them he didn't want to listen! The nerve! "You don't look like you've listened, Max." She hissed, looking away, this was when the barrage of tears started to cut away at her... Too many memories at one time... Too many hardships in one day. Raine bit her lip, which was chaffing from the cold...

Then the strangest of things happened. Max let up on the girl, and eventually let her go... Raine had been about to curse the man playfully, to lighten her mood when he handed her the crimson colored coin purse.... His own hand almost invisible with speed.
"Merci... Thank you." The girl placed the pouch within her coat, and kept her eyes down... Now she couldn't possibly look at him! Raine didn't want to cry in front of Max again, once was enough for a life time... It made her weak...

She remember the first time William had made her cry... She was no older than three, which made him eight. Quite an age difference at the time, but their parents forced them to play none the less. Anyway, that was the day William had dismantled Raine's dolly. He said she was ugly, and that ugly things didn't deserve to be intact. When the girl started to cry, he smacked her, calling her pathetic, also saying that if she were to be his bride, she was to toughen up. When Rain told her mother about the incident, it wasn't believed, nor taken too seriously... Many times after that William would tease the girl for her losted dolly and her tears. She vowed, at such a young age, never to cry in front of a man again.

Raine took a slow breath,
"It's Raine. My name is Raine Laurenette... It only seemed fair to give him an her real name. He bought her sword and gave her bill back... Though the girl's dignity was certainly stripped thoroughly. Max's next sentence brought a slight chuckle to Raine's lips, though it was obviously a painful one, "William will stop at nothing. That was a charade back there. The beast I know killed his own father, though no one else believes so... The half-wit doctor says it was a heart attack.... You know what it was? An impatient child. There's no avoiding it. William will come for me eventually, and you're not going to be mixed up in it." She tried to sound firm, but the waves of sorrow kept it from being so. Yes, the girl was suspicious of William's involvement in his father's death... It seemed like she was the only one. A healthy man, without heart problems just doesn't collapse like that... It was just too perfect for William, the snake.

Raine wasn't expecting Max's next move. She gasped as his arms wrapped around her, tears involuntarily leaked from their ducts, and she just stood their for a moment... Listening to his words...
" It's cold." It was a rather odd response, but she didn't know how else to... Because the tears took over before she could answer any other way.

Christoph had just been about to answer her question, when Max hurriedly left, shouting something in German. Sometimes she really wished she had learned the language when she had the chance. Sabine's eyes turned back to Christoph as he continued, and told her where he'd grown up. So he hadn't been raised in Luxembourg- it didn't necessarily surprise her, though she didn't exactly know why. She had a general idea about German geography, but the only maps they had in camp belonged to Michel- and even though she knew how to read them, the man would usually refuse if she asked to see them. She couldn't understand why he tried so hard to make her forget what kind of family she came from- perhaps he could have used her learning to his advantage when it came to moving the camp.

Of course, she needn't worry about that any more. She wouldn't be a nuisance to the stubborn troupe leader ever again, if she had her way. Christoph answered her question about his musical abilities, and her eyes lit up, "The piano! Perhaps you could play for me sometime? We never had enough room in our wagons to bring one along." She very vaguely remembered her mother selling the one they had once had- but she couldn't recall ever hearing her play it. Perhaps it had only been a showpiece?

Christoph finally moved on to the real reason she had wanted to see him, and she carefully continued, "Well.. I was hoping perhaps that you might accompany my performances." She added quickly, "O-only, of course, until I can earn enough money to stay in Luxembourg. At least until the troupe leaves. I just want to make sure I won't have to go back."
She thought about offering to pay him- with what little money she had brought from the camp.

The amount was so meager, however, there really was no point in offering, but perhaps if money was an issue, she could split the earnings of her performances with him? Anything, she told herself, to make this work. Thinking about it briefly, she asked instead, "Perhaps I could do something for you in return, to pay you for your efforts? Obviously, I have very little money."

(( No kidding. XD ))

Christoph Landa

【Noble intentions can be found…】

〖Herr Landa had to raise a quizzical eyebrow. Her plan didn't seem well thought out, and rather more of a 'spur of the moment' type of idea. Which, surprisingly enough, reminded him of Max when he was younger... always coming up with these semi-coherent ideas that would pretty much go according to plan, unless Christoph put his foot down. That usually ended up with Maxi storming off and having a rather disastrous end to his own scheme... or getting caught in his own trap.

In fact, the similarity brought a smile to his face. Maybe it was the elation from meeting another musically inclined person, or the familiarity from following such a spontaneous idea but he was feeling rather...helpful. "Perhaps I will, Sabine though I'd have to find a piece as lovely as you, if I were to play..." Christoph said without even considering what he just said, after all, out of the clock maker and him he was more of the flirt than he cared to admit. Of course, this would was also an endless well that Maxi could draw larks from whenever he felt like getting back at Christoph.

The musician was more than a little surprised that Sabine wanted to repay him for something that wasn't set in stone. While he was flattered by the offer, he didn't need it. His father had given him enough funds to start up a small province if necessary which was rather unusual considering his father. "Ah there is no need to pay me, Sabine. I cannot simply let you waste it on an arbitrary fee when we'll make more than enough in the coming weeks."

Christoph was perhaps, a little too confident for his own tastes but the fact that she could sing opened up a world of possibilities if he could accompany her through the piano or some other instrument. Though something soon dawned on him. Did she plan on returning to the troupe for the night? That seemed a little counter-productive to getting away from such a place. Once more he felt that odd elation affect what he was thinking. "I don't suppose you've thought far enough ahead, to handle your needs for shelter... have you? If not, I might be able to work something out with a friend of mine."

((I don't suppose you two might know of any piano pieces that Christoph could use... if you do I'd be very greatful}}

Kommst im Abendglühn daher, Find' ich dich im Sternenheer, Dich, du Menschenfreundlicher, Liebender!

Maximillion
----------------------------------
"Der Regen?" It seemed a little strange that soldier girl decided to tell him her name now, of all things. While he was finally glad that they had gotten to the point where they knew each other's names. It would hopefully create some ground of trust between them, though that hope seemed rather small. However, she seemed more intent on going through emotional distress...that he no doubt caused from earlier.

Sighing to himself as he held her, Maximillion began to replay what she told him about William. Was he really a monster? Maybe a cruel b*****d, but he couldn't really tell since he just met the noble. Then again, if William was truly a monster, Maxi could at least do something for the girl that feared them. Something his uncle did for him when he first arrived here fifteen years ago. "Soldatisch Mädchen, surely you know what we do to monsters in Echternach?" The clock maker's tone betrayed what he truly meant. After all, bears could more terrifying than some made up monster... and he had experience dealing with bears.

"Die Kameradin, we hunt them down like any natural predator...come we need to disappear if William is such a monster." And with that the clock maker began to lead her through various alleys and behind other shops, houses until they reached his back door. This was where he stopped leading her and turned to her once more. This would be the moment of truth in his mind, and if she didn't want his help then he'd leave her alone to deal with his own problems... though he was oddly excited at the notion of a human monster.

Something that was more cunning, than bumbling french soldiers or other vaguely aware predators. Praying to God, that she'd finally accept his help he soon found his voice. "I'd like to help you... Raine, though I'm letting you make that decision for yourself. So if you would like my help..." Maximilllion pushed open his back door and walked inside before turning back to her. "...Come inside and we will discuss what you want do, and how we can achieve it."

((Der Regen= Rain, funny considering that the gender is masculine. Die Kameradin= [fem] comrade}}

Christoph seemed to come out of a brief daze before answering her. Of course, she glanced away briefly at his compliment, as if to hide the fact that her cheeks had gained a rosy hue. He moved on to decline her offer to repay him. She almost insisted, before he mentioned that they would likely make a decent amount of money performing, "R-really? You think so?" That was probably the best news she'd heard in quite a while. As if that wasn't obvious enough, what with the wide grin on her face.

She covered her features with both hands in momentary delight, if she were any more giddy, she might have let out a squeal, "This is perfect! Très magnifique! I'll finally be free of him!" Unthinking, she skipped forward and gave Christoph a kiss on each cheek, something she had forgotten wasn't commonplace among Germans.

His next question brought her back to reality, but it couldn't dampen her already brightened mood, "I suppose I hadn't really thought of that, non.." If nothing else, she could sleep outside. It wouldn't be the first time, and after all- she was used to a drafty tent. Before she could say this, however, the musician offered to try and get her a place to stay. She bit her lip slightly, not sure if she should accept. After all, Christoph had already been extremely generous in offering his services.

The idea of a warm place to stay, however, was enticing enough for her to consider the offer, "I don't want to cause any inconvenience, of course. Only if you're sure it isn't a problem." Her grin returned, and she refrained from twirling in place- if only to keep from knocking anything over in Max's shop, "Why such kindness? Not that I don't appreciate it, of course! It's just odd, I think." For her, certainly, but she felt as if the man were going out of his way to help her. She hoped it wasn't out of pity. She didn't want him feeling obliged to offer his help.

Regardless of that, she would have to find a way to repay his kindness- even if he had insisted against it. She had no way of doing this now, of course, but perhaps she could figure something out later? Stepping over to sit in one of few empty chairs in the workshop, she leaned over and clasped her hands eagerly in her lap before asking, "So- where do we begin?"

William was in a less than chipper mood, to be sure. Those who passed him as he continued down the street made an effort to keep out of his way- so dark was the expression on his face. Raine was daft if she thought her charade was going to keep her from the marriage. There had been far too much planning put into it. Stopping, he glanced back at the shop briefly, just long enough to see Raine and her German friend leaving and retreating down an alleyway. Perhaps this could work in his favor.
Following them from a decent distance, the path the two took seemed slightly labyrinthine, but he kept up well enough.

He stopped behind the last turn they had made as he heard the German's voice. It seemed that the man was going to get in the way- and that.. Well.. He just couldn't have that. He turned the corner just to get a good look at the building the man had just entered. A twisted smile crept into his features as he turned around and made his way back toward the street the way he had come. He stopped for a moment, hearing uneven footsteps behind him, and turned to see a shabbily-dressed man holding a knife out as he approached, "What have you got in those fancy pockets of yours?"

William's smile once again disappeared. Just as his mood had brightened, some flea-bitten pickpocket had to come and ruin it for him. He stepped toward the man, whose eyes widened when he realized William wasn't afraid of him. Stabbing the air with the blade he held, the man tried to sound menacing, "I've got a knife!"
Closing what was left of the distance between them quickly, William grabbed the man's wrist and twisted it sharply, which of course caused him to drop the knife, "Yes." Using the hold he had on the man's arm, William slammed him against the alley wall, and quickly had his own knife positioned next to the man's ribs, "I've got one too."

The man was pleading now, under his breath, but William went on, ignoring him, "There was a man and a rather feminine French soldier who passed by just moments ago. Do you know who the man is?" The man seemed hesitant to speak, and the dagger's point pressed against the his flesh painfully, "I suggest you tell me now- I don't know how quickly you'll be able to speak when you're choking on blood." Obviously afraid for his life, the man quickly began to sputter an answer, "T-the clockmaker, you mean? Y-yes.. His name is Maximillion J-Jäger." William gave a grin, and twisted the man's wrist further, "Pardon?" Letting out a sharp cry of pain, the man spoke up, "Max! It's Max!"

"Ah.. You've been very helpful. Merci beaucoup." He slid the blade between the man's ribs and twisted it sharply, covering his mouth with a gloved hand as the bleeding pickpocket let out a muffled cry. Stepping back as the man fell to the ground, he pulled a handkerchief from his coat pocket, and wiped the blade clean, "Saleté." Now of course- all that was needed was to stop by the French barracks. If his sweetheart decided to return, he wanted to make sure her superiors knew who she was- and who she belonged to, of course.
