The girl shivered lightly as the hand went through her, and turned to face Arannis.
"I know him pretty well. He always stops by to see me. I'm not exactly sure if you could call us friends though."

"Perhaps, then... yes, it should work. It did on Salvin, to an extent... I see no reason it would not for another. Okiku, I need you to close your eyes. Picture Charon as best you can, given only focus on who he is, personally and in appearance. After a short time, you should be able to see him as clearly as anything, even with eyes closed. Then I need you to allow your thoughts to traverse to him, and in a sense, think something you would normally say when you would find yourself in front of him... I may have a means to speak with him, through you, if it works."

Okiku did as she was told, shutting her eyes as tight as she could. She imagined what Charon would look like if he were standing there. She vividly remembered his blood-stained robe, hood up on his skull. She saw his bony hands forever clasped around the oar to his boat. She laughed, imagining running up to him, trying to hug onto him. With a smile, she imagined what she would say to her.
~Charon! Hi! How's work going? Anything exciting happen?~

Arannis' eyes widened slightly, catching a faint glimpse of her efforts coming through successfully.
"He should be responding any time, now, if my suspicions are correct... when he does, tell him that I need to speak with him, and will set a beacon of myself if needed."
(I'm going to need you to play Charon, Eri. He's your creation, not mine.)

(I'll play him for the time being until I can find someone better suited >^.^<)
A low rumble resounded through Okiku's mind.
What is this, child? You have come upon the means of telepathic communication? Why do you disrupt my work?
The girl shifted uncomfortably, but kept her focus.
~Umm...I'm really sorry, but I have someone here that needs to speak to you.~
Proceed.

Arannis laid a hand to the floor, a white image of himself as he was at the time forming above it, creating a beacon of the mind. To it he called telepathically.
~Charon, I must speak with you, if at all possible. It concerns Okiku, and the terms of her time spent here at the Last Blood.~

A deep voice began to resonate throughout the entire cafe.
What of it, stranger? Who are you to question the fate that this girl has chosen for herself?

~I do not question her fate, in and of itself, sir. Only the terms given thereof. We have discussed several things, the life among the living among them. She wishes to return, if at all possible, and I have a means of allowing it, but I know nothing of what ties her here to the Cafe.~

She has given up the eternal rest of her soul and any chance of finding peace, all so that she will not have to face judgement and the Underworld. Her fear is the only thing tying her to this establishment. Until that fear is conquered, I cannot help you.

Arannis paused a moment, considering what all this could mean.
~My thanks, sir... and apologies for interrupting.~
He put his face in his hands, pondering.

My rounds will take me by there within a mortal day. Until then.
The voice ended abruptly, leaving only a ghostly echo in it's wake.
Okiku blinked and looked around a puzzled expression crossing her face.

Arannis lifted his head from his hands.
"Okiku, what is it that you so fear in your judgment? Have you done something wrong that I am unaware of?"

The girl's eyebrows knit together and she looked out the window fearfully.
"I don't want to be all dead. That's why I stay here. Charon said that if I stayed in this spot, I wouldn't have to be judged and go to my eternal rest. I'm not ready for that yet. There is still so much I want to do!"

"I cannot raise you while you are here, though, Okiku. Here, it seems, is as a tunnel, in neither one destination, nor the other. I am unable to act between the two, but perhaps at either place. The choice, of course, is yours. I will help if I can, but I cannot force you."

She bit her lip, trying to decide what to do.
"I really want to go, but I want another chance at life. I'm not ready to rest. How can I be certain which way is the right way to go?"
