I meant the broadway Phantom.

well from what i hear, he's not too great. so i'm gonna have to say daemon is probably a better phantom than he is anyway. rolleyes

I doubt it.

Hugh Panaro is actually a rather lovely Phantom from what I have heard and seen, and the man's hands are phenomenal for the role. That much I know. His 'Point of No Return' is delicious to behold, because of those hands, and his voice is absolutely rending when it comes to Erik's 'All I Ask Of You' Reprise.

I don't mind him so much - he isn't my favorite - but he is more tolerable if not superior to some Phantoms I have seen/heard.

I think your expectations are set a little high for the show. The US Tour made some unfortunate choices regarding their leads, but the rest of the cast is absolutely lovely. You cannot fixate on one aspect of the show and allow it to dominate your opinion of the show's success, or else you will be sorely disappointed each time you watch a performance. I dislike Gary Mauer as a Phantom, but I love D.C. Anderson as Andre and Richard Cryer as Firmin, etc.

I'm simply waiting for new cast changes... or to invest in a trip to London. Screw the US, I want the far superior London production.

Hands add to the Beauty 3nodding

One reason why Butler sucks... he has Pudgy fingers... so unlike mine... The Phantom needs Magic hands, a Magic voice, and a Monsterous Face behind the Mask... and not to mention an Orgasmic Laugh heart

I was so... how to put this gently... put off when Gerard opened his mouth that I didn't even notice his physical attributes. And no, he never laughed. Neither did the one on Broadway.. I think no one wants to TRY to top Michael Crawford...

I started laughing aloud in the theatre the second Butler sang: "Insolent boy!" He hasn't a clue what he's doing.

As for topping Michael Crawford, I doubt anyone *wants* to top him, but there are some who do...

We can just let them dream, then.

And I can see why Gerard has a different voice than expected. He's had negligable professional vocal training. (His only lessons were for his audition, singing Music of the Night.. SO TERRIBLE! HOW'D THEY LET HIM GET THE PART?!) Except his singing with a band in... high school or college. I don't remember which. Either way.. yeah.. he wasn't prepared for the slight difference in music he's having to sing.

No, they are. Michael Crawford may be a fantastic Phantom, but there are others who rival him.

And not even a good band - a failed band, at that.

Obviously, given Butler not being in it anymore.

I've never heard of a Phantom who had a laugh like Crawford. I know Panaro doesn't, I saw him last Spring and there wasn't a laugh. Great voice, though...

Obviously, each Phantom has his own individual laugh, though the best one I could come up with that rivals Crawford's laugh is Peter Karrie's.
