Has n-e-1 ever gotten seriously hurt in a horse related accedent??

I have had my horse slip and fall and she rolled over me and crushed some bones in my ankel and broke all but one of my ribs. I was in the hospital for almost 2weeks.
wow i had something like that happen to me;
i was at an event last winter warming up and my horse slipped in the mud and fell on top of me, on the way to the hospital i had an epileptic fit [im not an epeleptic though] and my brain was bleeding so they had to opperate to stop the bleeding, after the opperation i went into a coma and was in it for 4 days.
i was extremely lucky to not have incured brain damage. and supprisingly i did not brake any bones
Ouch that sucks but I'm so glad you're allright and good thing you are still alive. Whew what a relief without the broken bones.

I was about seven years old, and up north on holiday. We were in Colville, with my mothers birth family. It's a country place(One General Store, a town hall/post office, and a cafe. So as you can imagine, it's small, and covered with farm land), so I was out trekking with my Aunt and mother.

They decided to race down the field, and the horse I was riding at the time(15 year old palomino mare, as I remember) decided she wanted to go too... Being young and inexperienced(Pah, I had to grow up in a populated area in a city close to the capital.. I live a couple of streets away from one of New Zealands best race tracks, yet I don't get any opportunities to ride), I wasn't ready for it.

The horse took off, and I fell. Unfortunately my foot was stuck in the stirrup, so I was being dragged along behind the horse on my back xD

Other than the grass burn, and a small bruise or two, I came out fine. No injuries xD Lol

Got right back on afterwards. I'm a bit wary now when I'm on a horses back, but it's all good.

Wow that was a long post xD Most of it was just mindless drivel.
Wow thats young and far too, LOL Really? dang!! I'm so glad that you're alive since most people die from not getting safety when stuck on a horn, I'm glad you're ok and I hope you didn't get badly hurt. Wow, I would get on too but not right away when I just fell. thas good and always get back on that saddle no matter what, awwww it's ok, I read the whole thing in a jiffy, anyway do you own horses?

Hehe, I told a friend of mine a little while ago, and she's suprised that I still love horses so much.

My mother and aunt were there, and they helped me and urged me back on. You know what they say, fall off a horse, and you must get back on.

Nah, I don't unfortunately. I haven't got the money D=

not seriously. But I did bruise a few ribs when the horse I ride got spooked on a trail by a big 18wheeler.(she got hit by a car) It was really cold so the ground was frozen so it hurt more. Oh yeah there was a tree there too. But I did get to ride the horse my instructer was training back to the barn with her daughter on her own horse.

Lol lets not even get me started on all my spills... there have been many besides the ones I listed. These are just those that taught me valuable lessons and had bad results.

1. My first ever fall, a mare took off with me. I had only had like 10 lessons so like from trot to mad gallop was like OMG! and she hit the end of the arena and made a sharp turn left and I kept on going, did a belly flop into the sand. I bruised some ribs, was terribly sore... but got right back on.

2. My second fall I was bucked off a TB mare, went flying over her head. I got a shoulder injury out of that, still bothers me the odd time.

3. I was once trotting, cantering and jumping stirrupless, to get my balance and to say I was good at it. I was cantering around a corner, okay... more like... very speedy canter... and I somehow lost balnance, slipped off, landed on my feet and by this point I was kind of along the short side, the horses butt hit me and pushed me I lost my balance and fell into a metal door. Its all everyone heard throughout the barn, I had a safety vest on thank god so it didn't hurt AS much lol but I got the nick name Crash.

4. There was another mare I was jumping, she was over excited and the ring was too small. I was being yelled at because of how I was suppost to take these two jumps but the ring was small and it was unsafe and wasn't taught well enough to make really tight turns. Well, I took her around the ring and then toward the jump, last minute I tried to pull out because something didn't feel right. Too late... she took it, over jumped it by like 2 feet (it was like a 2'9" jump o.O) and did a weird little buck thinger (iunno thats how my boyfriend described it) and I went up out of the saddle by about a foot, over her shoulder, flipped around, landed on my knees, felt a jerk in my back.

This was my most serious fall... I badly injured my back and tail bone, more then it needed to be since it was already genetically not right. I badly hurt both knees which over a year later are still in pain and lock up. I've gone to doctors and am going back soon about my right knee which has gotten a lot worse.

This ended my english career for a while... I don't ride english as often anymore.

My last really bad fall...

I was going trail riding on a 20yr old gelding I was leasing as a "last memry" thing before I bought Riley. Well, I was gonna ride him around the paddock to warm him up. The ground was too unsafe to lunge or free lunge (Snowy, wet and ewww slippry and just unsafe.) well I went to mount, and he circled me. I kept him circling till he stopped and then got on. As soon as I was on (no real rein and one stirrup) he bucked... I was thrown on to his neck. I called for my friend and my dad to help me, to grab him so he couldn't get his head and give a good buck because I was off balance. He gave another buck a second later and threw me over his shoulder. I landed on my side, my arm and wrist under me. He trotted off... ears priced, yeah it was a disrespectful buck. Pain was ruled out. Well, I sat up... everything was dizzy, I couldn't see. I was yelling for someone, to help me. yelling "I CAN'T MOVE MY ARM! OH S***" and even started crying because it hurt so bad along with my ribs, and couldn't move my whole arm. My dad came running, I managed to untack him with one hand and my dad put the stuff away and then rushed me to the hospital. I sat there for 6-8 hours, unable to eat incase I needed surgery if it was broken. Got x-rays, found out it was a chipped radial head up in the elbow and a couple cracks in my ribs.

I was off school, my arm was in a sling and I couldn't use my right arm (Yeah had to be the arm I do everything with stare ) I oculdn't even groom Riley!!!! that made me sad, attempting with one hand failed miserably. Over time I healed, wrote a Biology test the day I was back in school with no studying and got the best mark xD mind you I was too drugged up on pain killers to study at all.

In all my life I have never been afraid of a horse, or any animal... until now. I went back to groom and handle him and I just freeze up, I can't do it, he hurt me and I'm afraid. When the weather turns nice I'm going to lunge him... if he's still in good enough health.

Yeah so my advice? ... always tell someone when your going out alone, its even best if you can have someone with you. I will not ride alone... if I had been alone that day with Custer, I couldn't move to get up to the BO's help and they couldn't hear my screaming and sobbing. I always have someone there when I work and ride incase an accident does happen, even when its Riley, I'm not as worried... but I still want someone in the barn that can help me.

Oh no!!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope you're allright!!! crying crying crying Anyway thats good cuz you should never go riding on your own without adult supervision or a friend going with you, but when did all this take place?
PostPosted: Tue Feb 20, 2007 5:55 pm

the worst that happened to me was when i was leading my colt Dually down to the arena..his mom Dixie was in front of us ...and this was when he was a littel more than a year old i think..but Dixie ran forward and the dog barked behind me and scared Dually ..he freaked out and kicked hitting me about a 1/2 inch above my knee..luckily he didn't break anything..may have chipped my bone tho..i don't know i never went to the doctor..but this was in June or something of last year and i still have a bruise and a dent ..but the funny thing is my P.E teacher didn't believe me the next day and she was gonna make me run the mile ..till i showed her the bruise..still swolen at this time because it was the next day..but she still made me walk it ..owww
