Well, Boromir being my favourite character - I'll have to side with him. sweatdrop Despite all of his faults, he was an excellent swordsman, and a nobel man. Besides, he tried to redeem himself in the end! So what if he was tempted to the point of madness by the ring and was a little arrogant - Nobody's perfect especially humans, and Boromir easily demonstrates that. I just find him to be a more realistic character in my opinion, and thus I find it easier to relate to him. I dunno I'm rambling I think. eek

Faramir DID Not try to take the Ring, that was something in the movies. Faramir swore he would not take it in the books. And I might be biased in Faramir's favor on Eowyn's behalf. I do like that Boromir redeemed himself ere end, however.

I chose Faramir, because he is more understanding and a representation of humans being worthy. However, I feel you cannot dislike Boromir. He had a lot more pressure on him hence would feel more need to act.

Now if the question was which actor I liked better... without a doubt Sean Bean is the better actor.

Boromir. ^___^ heart
He's a troubled soul. He was tempted to take the ring to help his people and especially his father. His thoughts were noble, just not his actions! However, he did redeem himself by his attempt to protect Merry and Pippin so all is forgiven on my part. I just think he's an interesting character to try and interpret. 3nodding

Okay, the unquestionable support for Faramir is starting to bother me too much. I have always sided with Boromir simply because his character is the most human, the one that it is easier to relate to. He was temped by the ring throughout the book. He successfully avoided this temptation until he tried to take it from Frodo in Fellowship. And even as he failed at doing so, he can to redemption. He fought for Merry and Pippin's safety and confessed himself to Aragorn before dying.
Because Faramir outright defied the power, the lure, of the ring, it made him a uber-human, above the mortal man. He was better than any other person, even the elves, because he was NOT tempted to take the ring and use it.

Call me crazy, but I can't connect with Faramir's god-like ability to avoid evil.

People I have talked to refer to Boromir as "evil!" because he "tried to kill Frodo blah blah blah" but no, he wasn't evil. He just succumbed to the ring's power and he also had some thoughts in him to be loyal to his father, to bring the ring back to him. I couldn't help but notice how many lines they chopped out of the regular FotR that were Boromir's but the EE includes a bunch more (I was happy!)

But, I also like Faramir. One reason is probably as someone said before because of Eowyn (who's one of my all time favorite characters). But you also feel sorry for him for doing what Denethor asks him to do, but then gets yelled at by his quack of a father, and he's always rejected and stuff like that. But it's not all pity that makes me like him. He's just a cool kind of character.
So, I can't decide myself who is better.

I prefer Boromir. Not that i have anything against Faramir but I just didn't like him. Boromir is such a tragic character. I don't like how most people characterize him as an evil person. He wasn't evil. He wanted to save his people, that's a normal reaction during war is it not? And the Ring had influence over him during most of the story. *shrug* I like Boromir a lot.

First, Boromir was in only one of the three parts when Faramir was in both Two Towers and Return of the King.

Faramir helped Sam and Frodo on their quest, participated the last War of the Ring, and last but not least, married a beautiful woman who slayed the Witchking.

Well, he did EVERYTHING as a male character, right??? biggrin

(hmmm.... yeah, he's not as unique as Aragorn or other guys in LOTR histories <- such as Turin, Beren, Elendil, etc.... but he looks good enough to me 3nodding )

personally I like Faramir a lot better. He was so kind to Frodo and Sam which made me happy. He is an all around cool guy. Boromir just seemed so arrogant to me and I don't like that too much. I don't blame him for being tempted by the ring but I don't like the way that he treated Frodo in order to get it.

I'm not really sure which one I like better. Faramir is cool, but I sympathize with Boromir because of how his dad treats him.
