I'm suprised that more of you don't have vegetarian families.
I think the non-vegetarian families get us a little more Veggie-Patriotic. 3nodding It's like that for me. My mom is a vegetarian, but my brother and dad aren't. So whenever my brother is cooking meat, I get really ticked off and it makes me wanna do protests and come talk with my Veggie friends.

My mom is actually really proud of me being vegetarian like she is. She was showing me off at work. She was like "Yeah, she wrote 'Meat's no Treat for those you Eat' on her hand!" And she is all for me going vegan later on. "It's definately good to cut dairy out of your diet." She's all for health and stuff. But I often hear her complaining about how people could eat an innocent animal.

I felt really bad after I became vegetarian because before that, I remembered I always offered my mom meat because I forgot she was vegetarian. I feel horrible about that now.

I went to eat with my dad again, and he was pestering me to choose a place, and I said we could eat any where except McDonalds and Burger King. But he still doesn't understand, and he said something that really hurt me. He called me "the problem". Is that all I am? Some picky eater that is just a bother to everyone else?!
I NEVER WANT TO EAT WITH HIM AGAIN! scream

EEK! I'm sorry you have to put up with junk like that...

My parents still aren't supportive of my decision (Mom's worried about nutrients, Dad is just violent), but after several screaming matches, some of which were in public places and two threats to run away from home I got them to shut thier bloody mouths (most of the time).

My parents still think I'm going to turn back one day and I suspect mom has been trying to slip meat into my food, but I've just been avoiding those dishes or cooking my own. I LOATHE meat with a deep and endless passion. mad

As for the shame of being made fun of in public, I'm actually trying to get the whole town to hate me so that way my parents will hurry up and move, plus I never cared about anyone elses opinions to begin with.

Basically I have no shame, I don't care for anyone in this minute town and I'm lovin' it. (*steals Mc Creepies slogan*)

Of course, the online support groups helped out loads aswell. 3nodding

My family is pretty cool with it, but some of my extended family dosn't get the meaning of 'vegitarian'... at thanksgiving my grandma and uncle seemed to think that I could somehow magically eat turkey for that day and still be a vegitarian... dude, vegitarianism dosn't work like that, vegitarians eat no meat, and holidays are no exception. A lot of my family also tries to convince me that vegitarians can eat seafood. neutral

My grandma made corn chowda once with beef bullion in it and insisted that it was ok for me to eat. mad

Also some of my aunts and uncles are always asking if I've started eating meat again.

Oh, and when my dad is mad at me he'll stack packages of meat in front of the veggie stuff in the freezer... thats just plain mean since he knows I'm completely repulsed by meat and refuse to touch the stuff even if it's in a package.

mmm, opposite with me then most people. My father never said much about it. Mother bitched and moaned for a while about how 'unhealthy' I was being, but has mostly stopped now. She doesn't approve, but just doesn't say too much.

Though one thing I hate about them being meat-eating is having to prepare their food sometimes. I can't refuse without seeming like a selfish child, but...I had to cut/fry bacon for my father's dinner last night and it was so very disgusting. I kept shuddering cause it just looks/smell/feels so...icky. Ugh.

I recently made my decision to go vegan. As in, really recently, a few days ago, and upon my mother's response, I decided I'd need some support, and what better place for support than Gaia? xd

Anyhow, I looked vegan and vegetarian up in the guild search and found this guild. When I initially mentioned it to my mom, she was really upset. She glared at me and said, "Well, I'm not getting you special food. We eat what I buy, so I guess you'll just starve, won't you?"

I was really upset. I wrote her a really long letter, because I'm a good persuasive writer and because I can't speak to her face to face usually.. I pretty much asked her to give me a chance, sent her a link to a site explaining all the health benefits, promised to research it really heavily, asked if I could involve her and my sisters, sent another link with info about what happens to those animals, and added a tiny bit of guilt-tripping in my conclusion about how I was under the impression that she'd promised to always support me no matter what my lifestyle choices were.

She talked to me this afternoon and apologized. She even agreed with my suggestion that I could try it for a couple months, cooking with her for our whole family and choosing all of our meals, and if they didn't like it, I would know how to prepare the food and do it for myself, and she and my sisters could go back to eating the way they used.

I hope it all works out.

I live with my grandparents and they are the biggest meat eaters ever. They realy dont like me not eating meat and they keep trying to slip me a slice of meat. I can't wait till i leave.

My dad is cool with it but my whole mom sides of the family thinks I'm on some "silly diet" and that I'm just being stupid. They think I'm a vegetarian because someone at school told me it was cool. neutral I don't even know any vegetarians in real life.

Your dad prepares the meet, my dad is a farmer. He's involved right at the beginning of the slaughter.

It's kinda strange, I guess, a vegetarian with a farmer for a father.
It's not surprising we don't have the best relationship...
