Aurora looked up from her menu, realizing that the tavern was getting quite busy, and there were too many customers for the waitress to attend to. She decided that perhaps she should just go to the bar to place her order. She had wished to talk to the barkeep anyway. She needed information, and the best source for that in any town was always the local barkeep. She decided to order roast chicken, some mushrooms, and a glass of wine. She rose from her seat and went to the bar to place her order.

A very suspicious looking figure opened the door to the tavern and walked inside. It shut the door silently behind itself. It walked to a small table by a wall and sat down, grabbing a menu on the way.

The figure was wearing a long, black cloak, with a hood that covered most of it's face, you could just see it's eyes peering from under it. It was fastened down to the center of it's torso, which had a very pronounced chest area; it was abviously a female under the cloak. From under the hood her short and extremely light hair poked out in many places. She had black highlights at some of the ends. That hardly looked natural. Her cloak covered a tight white top. She wore pants, very much like a man's, that were tight at the waist but very flowy at the feet. A one-handed sword was concealed expertly within the shadows of her garb.

The baggy sleaves of her cloak fell back to reveal the ornate rings on her skillful fingers as she placed a hand under her chin. Chokin looked through the menu quickly, her eyes bouncing all over the tavern. Places like this were great for finding out random information, bar talk was well know for that. Some people were talking casually, while others... seemed to be deep in thought.

She put her eyes back on her menu and made a mental note of her order. She'd take the stir-fry, whatever that was; couldn't hurt to try it. And to drink, maybe some nice, refreshing tea.

Estelyn approached the cloaked maiden amiably. Odd folks in these parts, she mused. Why they would be attracted to this tavern she did not want to imagine. Putting the thought out of her mind and donning spectacles, she retrieved a small notepad and pencil from her pocket. "Can I help you?" She nearly asked for the customer to remove her hood, leaning inquisitively.

Chokin's head turned to look at the waitress. She realized she hadn't taken off her hood, so she raised her hands and removed it. "So sorry, I've grown out of the habit of taking it off. As for my order... I think I'll take one of the um..stir-fries. And, would you happen to have any teas available?"

Under the hood was an elf, or so it appeared, whose hair wrapped around her head elegantly. Her deep blue eyes were near black at the rims but could be proved to be blue easily. I see the future-esk goth look still makes people uneasy. (Whether there were goths in middle earth this author doesn't care, the idea sounded good at the time; haha!)

She eased at the site of the comely Elven face. "Coming right up, ma'am," remarked Estelyn, nodding. "Tea? Oh, yes. Forgot to slip that into the menu. What kind of tea would you like?"

Strange sort of fashions these days. I've not seen anything like it.

((Elven goths. xd ))

"A simple herbal tea would be nice. Thank you," Chokin replied. She laid her menu down on the table and sat back, closing her eyes.

((Like I said, sounded like a good idea at the time. whee ))

"No problem," said Estelyn, picking up the menu. Where is that Evelyn? Haven't seen her hereabouts for some time. She walked back to the kitchen and called the order to the cook.

((No, we don't technically have a cook. 'Tis the Phantom of the Tavern--dun-dun-dunn.))

Keldan walked back in from wherever she had mysteriously disappeared to. Her pack looked to be loaded down with books again, but there was the addition of a longbow and quiver of arrows on her back. She sat at the bar this time and pulled out a menu.

She had just decided to have the sundae and was lowering her menu when she saw into the kitchen. A bowl of apples seemed to be floating around on its own. "I say! Is that a ghost cooking?" she exclaimed to no one in particular.

(( xd If it's a phantom, it must be shy, right? I'd not particularly want to be seen if I were a phantom.))

At once the bowl clattered to the floor with a sharp metal ring. All commotion ceased for an instant.

"Come now!" cried Estelyn. "You've startled the Phantom." She picked up the bowl, replacing the apples, ushering what appeared to be air back into the kitchen. She mumbled something to the invisible apparition before stepping out and promptly shutting the kitchen doors. "Well, how else do you expect to have a good meal around here? I'm short on cooks."

Chokin opened one eye to look at the comotion. She smiled as she agreed, "Sounds logical to me."

So the food is cooked by a ghost. It wouldn't be the first weird thing I've seen.

"Erm... I see," Keldan replied. "My apologies. Won't happen again. Especially now that it's no longer surprising." She gave an ingratiating grin, something you don't often see on Elves.

"If there's a position open, I could help out with the cooking. Perhaps you need someone a little more... corporeal? Unless the phantom objected, of course."

"Oh, that's alright," said Estelyn warmly. "The Phantom just doesn't take well to strangers. I'll go ahead and ask him."

She disappeared into the backroom for a few minutes, engaging in what seemed to all a one-sided conversation. Peeking outside, she addressed the Elf. "He's going home for the night," she began, "but he wouldn't mind having you on board, so long as you keep your distance. He's actually quite friendly once you get to know him, despite the fact that you usually can't see him."

"I'll be sure to keep my distance as long as I know where he is to keep a distance from," the Elf said in an official-sounding voice, raising her right hand. "I suppose I'll get to work, then, if he's going home. Erm, bye, Phantom." She waved towards the kitchen door... and then in a circle, just in case.

Keldan then pulled a seemingly random cookbook out of her pack, opened it, and walked into the kitchen reading it. She paused only to grab an apron from beside the door without looking up from the book. The kitchen doors swung shut behind her.

They opened again. "Oh, by the way," she addressed Estelyn. "Thanks for the job." She nodded once and then disappeared again.

Estelyn smiled, calling, "Glad to have you!" Ah, she should fit right into the family. She chuckled and wiped her hands on her apron, retrieving her notepad. Suddenly remembering something, she poked her head back into the kitchen and added, "When there are people around, we put a red kerchief over the Phantom's head. Oh! And here are the orders. Plum forgot!" Blushing sheepishly, Estelyn returned to the customers.
