Arannis paused in thought for a solid half minute before answering.

"I have heard rumors of the end result of a post-mortem demise... to be taken from existence entirely, or so they say. I wonder if there is any trouble at the gateway... but with my current situation, let alone my diminished abilities in the afterlife, I fear for the result of my intervention."

The ghost glided to the front door.

"I wish I could help out too"

Placing a hand on the door handle, she winced and pulled back her hand.

"I can't leave this place, even if I tried. Well, If anyone knows about what is going on, Charon will."

She nodded emphatically.

Arannis eyed her curiously.

"Forgive my asking, but a young woman of your age typically has far differing mannerisms from your own. Granted, age seems put to a halt in the netherworlds, but I can tell from appearance, alone, that you were quite young at the time of your death. How long has it been, Okiku...?"

The little girl pondered, and counted a few times on her fingers.

"I might have lost track somewhere along the way, but it was more than three or four millenia ago. Of that I'm certain."

Settling down onto a chair, she smiled.

"Sometimes I like to watch the different people that come through here and imitate their actions. It's become a hobby to me."

Arannis frowned.

"Don't ask it of me. I'm withered beyond compare. Once I felt the rush constantly, flowing in and out, but now... I am as nothing."

He looked away then.

"Ironic, though, that one appearing so young is in fact, slightly over twice my own age."

Okiku thought about it, then stood back up, twirling around in little circles.

"If I had the chance, I would trade eternal youth even for just one more day of life. Breathing in fresh air, laughing with loved ones, feeling the warm sun, I miss it all."

Arannis held a hand out in front of him, a faint glow coming around it.

"It could be arranged, depending on the circumstances of your being here. I know an unearthly amount of healing. Provided I could determine a source to raise, it could be done."

The little girl's eyes danced with delight as she thought of how life would be, then her face clouded over with some unsureness, before it subsided into the very nature of her being.

"I don't know...I know that Charon is the one keeping me here. If it weren't for him, I'd have left this plane of existence long ago. I really don't know if my actual body is around anymore. My hometown was destroyed a long long time ago."

"I won't ask... but, there may be an alternative to finding the body... provided you be willing to surrender a portion of your... spiritual essence, here. Sooner or later, I will find my way back into the living, and when I do, perhaps I can use that to give something of a reincarnation."

Okiku chewed on her bottom lip as she thought about it.

"It won't hurt, will it?"

"I... can't rightly say it won't, but I tell you this much; it's not so much 'pain' as well... 'missing a piece of yourself'. I know a certain ritual that could easily be augmented to reverse itself. Having once become undead, myself, I imagine it could potentially resurrect you, but in the interim you might feel a bit... outside yourself."

"But what would become of this place? What about the souls that come here before their final rest? What will become of them?"

She paced the length of the floor, before coming to a stop.

"If you can promise me that this place will still exist and that I can come back when I wish, then I'll do it."

Arannis shook his head slightly.

"That I cannot tell. Your friend, Charon, was it? He was the one to give you place here, was he not? I would have to speak with him, then, regarding the terms of your existence."

Okiku nodded excitedly and ran to the front window, looking around at the moors outside.

"He should be here soon. Anytime now, actually. I don't understand what is taking him so long."

Arannis came after her, a hand coming... through, her shoulder, as he realized he couldn't offer the notion among the dead.

"Remind me not to do that again... How well do you know him, Okiku? I could quite easily teach you an alternative means of communication, distance nearly disregarded in such."
