The fox smiled softly at Hiei, who seemed to be having a bit of trouble with words. He could be so adorable at times, even if he didn't mean to be so. All the while, he hadn't stopped with his work. By now, he was drying the already clean wounds, though. He dimly wondered if he had other wounds beneath the clothing, but didn't think on that too much. There really wasn't much he could do about that. "Hiei, I take it you're trying to thank me?" the red-head asked, being fairly sure that was what he was trying to do.

Hiei nodded, feeling slightly ashamed that he couldn't say what he'd wanted to. He felt a bit guilty that the other had to come and save him. "How long will it take.... To get back to the human world?" Hiei questioned.

He felt nervous about being here, especially now. Thinking for sure that a demon would soon find them. Hiei had Kurama with him, that much should of been enough... But Hiei was now doubting everything before thinking.

"I can assure you that it won't take very long," the fox replied, though not being exactly sure how long it would take. What he did know is that it would take no longer than a day or two. This route was one different from the one he had taken before. The other had his scent and footprints, so he would be easy to find had he gone that way. The kitsune pulled a few plants from his lovely red hair, then set them down beside him. First, he took a longer one that resembled a tree branch. "I must warn you, this may well hurt," Kurama said, though it was doubtful that it really would hurt. The cuts themselves probably hurt more in the first place. He brought the plant to one of Hiei's larger and more deep wounds, snapped it in half, then a thin ooze came from inside it. Using a piece of cloth, he rubbed the liquid into the wound, and it noticably began to heal. The fox repeated this little process on the wounds that were severe, but left the little scratches alone. They wouldn't take long to heal at all.

Hiei tried his hardest not to cry out in pain each time the sap from the plants touched him, but it was hard not to. It didn't help that he felt like he was in danger in this realm now.

The fox could see his pain easily, it being obvious of his effort to keep from screaming. Did it really hurt that much? The fox had used this on himself a few times, and it hadn't hurt much. Maybe he had been weakened more than he had originally thought? He was begining to think that. "Are you feeling better, now?" he asked one he had finished, refering to the pain of the actual wounds. Kurama didn't even have to ask about the pain the sap had brought, as that definitely had hurt, judging by his reaction. Had he known it would hurt that much, he wouldn't have used that plant. It was pointless to stop once he had started, though, so he didn't. In the long run, this would be better for him.

Hiei nodded, though fresh tears were in his eyes still from the occurance. Those plants were meant for demons and Kurama didn't rightly know yet that he was human... He was just trying to help Hiei knew and he'd rather not be ungrateful. Sides that pain was nothing like what had already been done to him. It took a while before his voice was steady enough to talk again. "It's cold," He commented, truthfully.

Hiei had curled up to himself again and was watching Kurama with large eyes. He felt afraid of the other's power from this viewpoint. He could still sense the strength the other held, and it caused his hairs to stand on end just thinking of such a thing. He knew better though, Kurama wouldn't hurt him. Kurama had never hurt him before, and he wouldn't now. Though Hiei couldn't completely hide signs of slight fear and separation of himself from the other just yet.

The fox would have made some comment similar to 'You expect me to do what about that?', but, recalling how much the other's personality had changed, he figured it wouldn't have the same teasing value. What the fire appariton needed was comfort; that would help him. He had obviously been mistreated for a long time, now- a trend which needed breaking. Then he actually thought about what the koorime had said. Cold? A fire demon? What sense did that make? Couldn't he keep his body temperature stable? Had his energy been drained that much? Again, he wondered just what had happened to his partner to cause these sorts of changes. But the kitsune knew better than to ask; he wouldn't want to talk about it, and that was all it took to keep Kurama quiet. He did the one thing that made sense to do in this situation- he pulled the boy into his lap and put his arms around him, this being meant to keep him warmer. Questions about his experiences could be answered later, if ever at all. For now, it wasn't of his concern, no matter how curious he was.

Hiei felt drowsy as he was held by Kurama he started to nod off finally, when suddenly one of the demons that had been eating the humans from the mansion showed up. He was a little more than a pest, a scavenger. "Ah, the great Kurama has come to join in the feast, has he?" He leered at the other, before he noticed Hiei in his arms. "A fine young morsel you've gotten yourself there. Still alive then, even better. Humans taste much better when they're still warm." He was slowly making his way closer. "There's still finer humans in that building if you want to go take a look, more meat, and more concious."

He noticed the other pulling out his whip, and backed away. "Not that you haven't a fine human there yourself. I just thought you'd want to know about-" His sentance cut off as he made a dash into the woods once again.

Hiei kept silent, he didn't want Kurama to know, but he knew the other must have put two and two together by now... He shivered as he lay there, the winds cutting through even Kurama's heat. He felt like crying, but no more tears would come.

The weak demon had irritated him, so he had threatened it. Really, all he cared about now was Hiei- that he was safe, comfortable, and happy. There wasn't much he could really do about that, but he tried to manage by holding him. That'd at least keep him a bit warmer, if nothing else. Kurama kept silent, really not having anything worth saying. It gave him time to think- or, more precisely, to wonder about a certain boy. The scavenger had said that Hiei was human. How could that be? Something told him that it hadn't been a mistake. He had been weaker, that was for sure. His energy was almost non-existant. What the red-head wondered most is exactly how he had become human, assuming that he had. It wasn't something he had ever even heard about, actually, so naturally, he had no idea how to cure him. Regardless, he would do his best to return him to normal. The way he acted now was just too strange... so different from normal.

When Kurama didn't say anything about the incident, Hiei felt somewhat better about the other knowing. Now that he felt better about it, he was more relaxed and slowly started to drift into slumber... A sleep that eventually produced nightmares of what had happened in the mansion. He woke up screaming, pounding on the other's chest. He was shaking, he knew that and he doubted he had truely hurt the other.

For lack of having a better way to comfort the boy, the red-head snuggled closer to him and said, "It's okay, Hiei. I'm here. I won't let anything happen to you." It's what his human mother did when similar things happened when he was younger. Hopefully, the effect it would have would be a good one- one that calmed the other down. The fox could only imagine what his nightmares were of, but judging by his reaction, it certainly had something to do with the torture he had endured at the mansion. Kurama was still curious about what had happened, but didn't want to talk about it. It was bad enough for Hiei just having the memories that haunted him. If anything, the kitsune needed to keep his mind off of the incident.

Hiei calmed although he was shaking still. "So- Sorry.... I'm Sorry..." Hiei apologized, he was struggling hard not to just break down again.

He wanted to look at the other, into his eyes maybe, but found that very hard right at the moment. He didn't want to see what those eyes would say...

"You don't need to be sorry. I should be, if anyone. I let all of this happen to you," the fox said, letting his words trail off. He really did think that he should be sorry. If he had just come to save Hiei earlier, he wouldn't be like this. He felt so guilty. The boy knew there was nothing he could do about that now, so he would try to repair the damage as best he could.

"But-" Hiei attempted to argue, only fell silent when he didn't know what to say. "But, I- I- hit you.... I shouldn't of."

"You hit me, but you didn't know what you were doing. Your emotions blinded you, so I wouldn't dream of holding it against you," the kitsune said, trying to soothe him. He realized that Hiei felt bad about hitting him, but it was something that was easily forgivable. It wasn't like it had really even hurt, anyway.
