Personal Quest: The Custom Order Fadorra smiled broadly as she walked down the street. She had her mar pouch held neatly in her one hand and her two lovely snake fangs clutched tightly in the other. She was excited – today was the day she had worked up the courage to order what she needed from Zahar. Hopefully he didn’t whap her across the face for requesting it – this was legitimate business, after all.
As she entered the blacksmith shop, she gulped a little and took a deep breath: She’d need to be calm, collected, and straight forward. The Kaillad was not a particularly chatty or friendly owner, and she wanted to bother him as little as possible with her request.
A little more timidly than before, the Sooeteu approached the counter. “Excuse me, Zahar? I need to make a custom order for something. It’s a little silly seeming but I can pay for it and this shouldn’t take too long…”
Soon after, the girl had placed the fangs on the table and explained what she wanted. A few strange looks and a small amount of work later had what she had requested in her hand. The fangs now had a small hole put through each of the rounded bases and an adapted fishing hook attached to them. The hole in the fangs was to attach a miniature metal ring to so she could hook them and the hooks together, allowing the objects to dangle off of pierced ears. The purple girl had also requested a straight pin – something she, with the help of a friend, would have shoved through the soft part of her ears to pierce them.
Thanking the Blacksmith for his time, the girl handed over the mar he’d asked as payment. He’d only asked for about two or three mar, as the task – though silly – was rather simple. She was then able to walk back towards the dorms, her earrings in her pouch and her mind set to finding Sashiri. The other girl would probably be the most helpful person for such a thing and Dorra knew she’d need help piercing her ears right.
This was going to be one heck of an evening, she thought, as she spotted the other Sooeteu nearby. Definitely one heck of an evening.

Choosing a Class - Part 1 It is a strange and awkward day when one finds Fadorra meditating. So the rainy day that found our heroine sitting in a yoga-esque pose on the branch of a tree was automatically deemed strange by most standards. The usually loud-mouthed fish girl had perched herself in this fashion because she believed it would help her think. The softly falling rain, the odd pose, even her location of a tree branch were being used to do ‘attune her senses’ and those who thought it wasn’t helping…were spot on.
Being out in the rain was doing nothing more than make the Sooeteu feel refreshed and the droplets of water seemed to be beckoning her to get up and dance along the thick branch she was positioned upon. The gentle rustle of the leaves upon the branch and the soft tickle of the wind all but begged her to play. The discomfort of her backside pressed against her legs was like a kick towards what she really wanted to be doing.
Get up and dance, Fadorra! The world shouted it at her, pressing her away from her seat, and pulling her towards the joy of being light on one’s feet. Forget concentrating on choosing a class! That can wait for another day! Move with us, play with us! Dance, Fadorra, Dance!
No! I can’t dance right now! I have to think! The words shouted back from the purple girl’s mind, her concentration attempting to knuckle down and withstand the calls of play. Nature was her playground usually but she had to THINK dammit! She’d already gone against her better instincts, coming outside at all! She had planned to stay in and think all day but the lure of a lovely drizzly day was too much. Excuses were made to her subconscious, telling it that she’d concentrate better outside, out where she could be one with nature! And yet here she was at the same place she’d started, no idea what the hell she was going to do.
She struggled at it for what seemed like hours, but no coherent thought would reach her. The girl could barely bring up the options she was to consider in her mind, too busy trying to rein in her desire to get up and dance about. Her playful nature won over her better judgement in the end, snapping her control and causing the girl to shout at the heavens.
“Oh FINE! Have it your way! I’ll think later!” she called, standing and stretching.
The backs of her legs hurt a bit – the bark was scratchy and not really meant for sitting on. The position she’d been sitting in – each foot placed gently upon the opposing knee – had been comfortable but was made less so by where she was sitting. The pain of what she was sitting on had died out after a few moments, but standing up brought it back.
Shaking her head, she began to dance carefully along the branch. It was more of a spin, each foot wrapping around the branch as she moved, being used to keep her balance during the spins. Reaching the end of the branch she bent forward to touch her toes and then threw her body backwards, using it’s weight to propel her into a graceful arc. She landed on her hands, hold the branch and stretching her legs out above her head. The tree was large enough to give her plenty of leg room – the trunk being the only thing she’d have to worry about hitting her legs on during her routine.
“There are four classes…” she said softly to herself as she moved, flipping and twisting in the air. “Fighter, Thief, Priest and Mage…”
“Each of the four races can become three of those four classes…” her words flowed with her body in the spins and jumps, the thoughts running freely as she spoke, reaching points she had been unable to consider.
“Sooeteu may become…” another landing on her hands, this time ending in her swinging down under the branch and back over it in a circle, “Thieves, Priests, and Mages…”
A long, smooth dive off of the edge of the branch, ended by her grabbing the very end of it with her feet and flipping herself back up. One, two, three, one, two, three. She was developing a rhythm now and her thoughts were flowing at that place. The press and flexing of her muscles, the joy of releasing their tension when pushing off for a flip. This was her true meditation, concentration.
“Mages…they think. Have great distance fighting…strong spells…”
This time, she leapt for a higher branch, her jumping skills send her sailing forward gracefully. She took hold of that branch, using her arm muscles to begin another few spins around it. Yes, this dance – or at least, to her it was just a dance – felt so greaaaaat! So freeing!
“Prolly couldn’t be a mage…I’m not one for fire power. I like to hit things and kick them up close too much….” Spin, flip, turn, grab, spin, flip, turn, grab, “…my aim’s bad ‘nyway.”
Turn upon this branch, arms out at her sides, mind sailing as she moved. One, two, three, one, two, three. Spin, flip, turn, dance. Sail upon the wind, spin upon your toes.
“Thieves…they sneak. They sneak and grab…can fight but sneak more…” Bend, flip, twirl, kick.
Leap back to original branch. Spin, flip, twist, dance, dance dance! One, two, three, twirl!
“I’m not sneaky. I don’t like sneakin’…I like to flip and dance an’ be loud!” she called happily as she spun once more.
“Priests…what all do they do? Just heal…right?” she inquired aloud as she made another quick spin and leapt mid turn for the higher branch once more.
This time, her luck had run out. The branches were slick with the rain, and the spin-leap combination hadn’t been what she’d needed to get all the way to the next branch properly. The girl had ended up scraping her forehead on the branch as she flailed to maintain her slipping hold. It wasn’t enough however, and the girl was sent plummeting towards the ground.
As she fell, Fadorra had a few moments to contemplate the lovely freedom she felt, free-falling towards the earth below. Her arms and legs spread out as she allowed the few moments of weightlessness to overtake her. And with a quick and painful CRUNCH-KACRACK-THUMP! It all went black.

Choosing a Class - Part 2 A week had passed before the purple Sooeteu managed to return to consciousness. The first thing she noticed was her head hurt like a @$^*#$^*(#$er. She also noticed that she was not in her own bed…or where she’d been last time she was conscious: knocked out at the foot of a tree.
Shaking her head, the girl sat up and stared around her. Her back ached quite a bit as she sat up and stared around. The girl was in a rather open, airy looking wood house. There were no real windows in the walls – just simple spaces for air to come in and go out. The furnishings were simple, more wood and simple metals. A few neat chairs, a small rounded out hold in the floor where one could put a metal bowl for cooking, a few cabinets and an open closet that held robes.
Out the small doorway, Fadorra spotted a miniature decklike area surrounding the house. Just beyond it, there was mostly branches and foliage, leading her to the realization that she was in a tree house. And based on the fact that she wasn’t dead, and was instead neatly bandaged up, the girl reasoned she was probably in the home of whoever had saved her. Taking in the room again, and then the soft patchwork quilt she lay beneath, she wondered just what sort of person had taken it upon their own self to care for her.
“Oh! Good! You’re awake!” the pleasant voice of an older female reached Dorra’s ears from somewhere to her right. Turning quickly, the girl noticed an elderly Teolli entering with a woven basket of what looked like fresh laundry.
Placing the laundry next to her sewing table – on which the Sooeteu spotted her novice uniform – the old woman walked over to check on her ward. Smiling as much as one can with a funky beak, she checked Dorra’s temperature and took a peek under the bandages on her head and back to see if they were healing properly.
“Just about time to change the herbs on these, yes yes.” The woman stated, undoing the ones on her charge’s head first. Fadorra blinked at her.
“Excuse me, I don’t mean to seem rude, but who might you be?” the girl asked softly, watching as the woman worked.
“Oh, silly me. I haven’t introduced myself yet! I haven’t had much company in some time, you see. My name is Paxia, and I’m a retired Oracle. I stay in this treehouse by myself, mostly, but you fell out of a tree near here last week and I just couldn’t leave you there.” The elderly female explained, wringing out a wash cloth from a basin nearby to place on Dorra’s scraped up forehead.
“Nice to meet you! I’m Fadorra, but most call me ‘Dorra or Loudmouth. Thank you for saving me…um…what are you doing there?” the girl asked, cheerfully, now that she knew what was going on. “It looks interesting.”
Delighted by the interest her patient was taking in the herbs she’d pulled out, the old Priestess began chattering away. Paxia hadn’t retired and secluded herself here because she was anti-social and didn’t want to see people; she just happened to live alone and this had been her ideal place to have a house. This building was her dream house – she’d had a few of the local novices build it for her yeaaaaars and yearrrrs ago when she was young and still a practicing Oracle.
“I’ve been living in this area all of my life. My friend Denali and I are the oldest around here, you know. We were novices around the same time and she became a shopkeeping apprentice around the same time I became a Priest. She’s gone senile now and that’s done a number on her…though Dena was always kinda cookoo” the Teolli made a silly face as she said the last words, causing Fadorra to giggle.
“I’ve seen Denali! I’ve done a couple of minor jobs for her.” The girl told the older woman, watching as the wings wrapped new bandages around her torso.
“Oh, have you? That’s wonderful. I really need to go visit town one of these days, maybe see if I can help out. It’s harder for me to get out and about these days, I’m not as young as I used to be.” The older woman explained, brushing idly at her white and gray feathers as she spoke. The ends of them bore a slightly green hue, but they’d changed with age and now the woman had an elderly, respectable look about her.
“How do you get food then?” the girl asked, blinking. “Most of that stuff’s in town, innit?”
“I grow some small plants and there’s a small stream nearby. That’s about all I can do for food these days. I’d love to have meat and things but…beggars can’t be choosers, I guess.” The older woman laughed, striding over to the window to pull a few fruits off of her tree.
“If you need, I could take you to town or get your groceries or summat?” Dorra offered, smiling sheepishly. “You’ve helped me a lot! I dunno where I’d be if you hadn’t found me.”
Paxia returned the smile, clapping her soft feathered hands together again “that would be really sweet of you. I really would love to see the new crop of priestlings and whatnot – which reminds me! You seem to be one of the local novices, have you decided a class yet?”
“I was thinking about that when I fell. I like to dance around and stuff and I missed the branch I was jumping for.” The girl explained, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly.
“Oh dear, that’s awful!” Paxia exclaimed as she brought some berries over to Dorra. “Eat up.”
“So, what are your options? Thief, Priest, and Mage still, yes?” the elder woman asked as the girl finished her first few berries.
“Ah, yeah.. I was actually just about to consider if I could take Priest or not when I fell.” She swallowed another berry before continuing, “I like hand-to-hand too much to be a Mage and I’m not very sneaky.”
“Aha! Sounds like me!” the old Teolli laughed, “My race in general’s too clumsy to be thieves. But I’m not much of a fighter and mages seemed too stuffy for me. Anyway, we needed priests – it’s not a popular profession – and so that’s how I chose mine.”
The conversation continued on like that for a while until Fadorra finally had to go back to sleep. It was another couple of days before she was well enough to really get out of bed to go back to town. And when she did go, she helped Paxia along with her.
The two journeyed along, happily discussing Fadorra’s final decision to become a Priestess. The girl felt much more sure of the decision than she’d been when she was falling and she’d made a new friend! The old Teolli would be a mentor to her, somewhat, and the girl would be able to help her with her shopping and travel. All in all, a win-win situation! Dorra felt proud and excited about the fact that she’d be going to talk to the guild officials about joining the next day.

Growth Quest
For many many moons her god had been watching her grow. Watching, hoping, and staking his claim before anyone else. So when Fadorra appeared at the Oracle guild, well, connections had already made it known she was to be accepted. Sort of.
The god and his priests had a little something special up their sleeves for the Sooteu. What kind of practical joke and hazing does Dorra go through joining the guild? How does she react? And most importantly... Does it ever get serious?
(For this, you can make up a god/dess to use, seeing how we haven't settled upon some yet.)

Growth Quest Arriving in the Oracle’s guild, Fadorra didn’t feel as nervous as she should. Sure, there were many rumors circulating about Altaira’s harrowing night with squabbling deities but for some reason, the Sooeteu didn’t much care. Honestly, the girl was somewhat interested and excited to see what was in store for her – after all, since when had spunky Dorra ever cared severely what people thought of her? She was actually curious about whether or not her test would be the same or different than her friend’s. If it was, she could handle listening to deities squabbling over her and playing twenty questions. If it was different, then she’d get to have an interesting story to tell.
Bouncing into the Oracle’s guild, her fangly earrings flying up and down as she did, the girl managed to startle a few older members and gain more than one reproachful look. However, she had been in the building not more than a few moments before a young priest came to greet her. He was a tall Meecio with silky, dark brown fur, and warm chocolate eyes. He grinned almost devilishly at her as he bowed in greeting – and Dorra couldn’t help but be reminded of her dear friend Singh.
“Miss Fadorra, so good of you to come. We’ve been expecting you for some time. If you will follow me?” the intoned, his voice smooth, charming.
Skipping along excitedly after the young male, the girl was more than happy to look around the guild and admire it. Her mentor, Paxia, had mentioned a few times just how pretty it had been when she was young, and the girl would be pleased to report that it had become even more so in the years since. So enraptured was she in the building, that the Sooeteu barely noticed when they’d stopped in front of a large door.
On the other side was a small, round table, where several young, friendly looking Oracles sat. Well, friendly wasn’t quite the right word, in most people’s opinions. They seemed everything from playful to devious to down right naughty. Yet all held an air of niceness to them and they all seemed quite willing to greet the purple Novice as the Meecio boy brought her in.
A somewhat older – yet still pleasant looking – Oracle stood, removing her hood. The woman’s hood had been dyed a lovely royal blue shade and had almost distracted the girl from noticing the most interesting thing about her. This old Oracle…was a Kaillad. And she was ANCIENT! She had to be as old as Denali and Paxia, if not even older! Her scales were translucent in some places and a few veins could be seen here and there. In a few places, her previously gray scales had developed strange black spots. The most strange thing to see, however, were her horns. They were long and yellowed, broken in some places, in others totally fallen out, and still others spotted with orange and brown. However, for all intents and purposes, she looked pretty damn good for an old-as-@#$*(@* Kaillad.
Grinning cheerfully, Fadorra bowed her head a bit and waved at everyone. “Hello!” she greeted them, happily.
“Welcome to our sect, Miss Fadorra.” The elderly Oracle said in a wheezy voice, leaning forward a bit to grasp her cane and start slowly loping towards the young girl to greet her.
Being somewhat used to trying to be considerate to the elderly after her time with Paxia, the girl immediately stepped a bit closer to make the distance shorter.
Smiling a bit – such a strange expression on a wizened lizard woman, to be sure – Old Olga spoke once more. “It is good to finally meet you…we have heard that you have met and befriend dear little Paxi. She was a sweet thing when she was young – too nice and well behaved to be one of us but quite nice to work with.” The old creature explained, nodding as she spoke.
“Get on with it, Oldie!” one of the Teolli girls that Meecio had seated himself between called. She was reclining in her chair and the look in her eyes alone told Fadorra that she was mostly kidding and probably held the highest regard for the Kaillad before her. “We don’t need you reminiscing about old students when there’s a hazing to be explained!”
A chorus of cheers and laughter echoed from around the table at that. The Oracles seated there ranged in ages from young to decently old, but none so much as Olga.
“Ah, you impatient brats. Learn to be respectful.” The old one wheezed, tapping her cane but obviously amused, the twinkle of mirth in her eyes. Turning back to the Novice, she smiled once more. “But they are right, girl. We do have a hazing to explain. And since someone seems to want things gotten on with, she can do the explaining. Get to it, Tanzenia.”
“Pfft. Always picking on me, oldhead.” The Teolli clicked at her before turning back to Dorra. “Okay, brat, here’s the skinny. Since the Gods pick who serves them, you kinda got singled out long time back, when you came with that boy to the Plains. Our god liked you and staked his claim straight up. He didn’t tell us if there was any fighting, but from what I’ve heard, prolly wasn’t much of it.”
“She says that to most of the early decision priests since that’s how she was picked.” A Meecio girl seated neat Fadorra whispered to her, causing the girl to smile a little.
“Any-way! Since you’re a first choice and didn’t have to go through the selection process, you’ve gotta do a bit of an entrance thing to become part of the gang, ya hear?” Tanzenia went on, shooting a glare at the Meecio as she did.
“Silence, girl. Your infernal slang is confusing.” A young male Sooeteu that had stretched himself out a bit at the other end of the table barked at the Teolli. “Your grasp of language is utterly revolting, @#$*. How do we know she even understood you?”
Fadorra found she couldn’t stifle her laughter at that point, causing the whole table to join her once more. At least they had senses of humor! Seeing the looks that male and Tanzenia were shooting each other had – pure murder and amusement mixed the whole time – done in the Sooeteu girl’s composure.
“Well! She’s passed phase one! She can laugh!” the Meecio girl in front of Dorra chimed in pleasantly, in between fits of giggles. “I half think we should just tell her about the ‘ritual’ and get on with it! I wanna see how she does!”
When things fully settled down, the Meecio boy who’d brought Fadorra in got to explaining their entrance ‘ritual’. That evening, Fadorra would have to dance in the moonlight, whilst wearing nothing save for her earrings – the other Oracles thought they seemed cool – and some body paint.
Honestly, the purple girl kind of liked the idea of just getting to dance naked under the moonlight. The fact that it might do something made it seem like something she’d have to worry more about. She let her Meecio companion – the female this time – in on that matter and just got a light laugh and a pat on the shoulder in response.
“You’ll do fiiiiiiine if you relax and just flow with it.” Tanzenia told her, giving the girl a nudge for good luck.
Soon enough the girl was standing at the top of a large hill, wearing a light cloak as her garment. Upon her body, painted in soft glowy silver were all sorts of interesting designs – Fadorra vaguely believed they were probably just runic or fancily scrawled curse words and silly messages. Either way, she actually felt more amused and empowered, bouncing her head back and forth to feel her earrings against her neck. They were a sign of comfort, for some reason. And yet, she wasn’t worried. She had been informed she needn’t worry about the ritual and just dance around to her heart’s content. They’d even decided to add an extra credit bit.
Fadorra took a deep breath and turned away from the small group of Oracles clustered around the hilltop to watch her. As the signal was given, she dropped the cape and began her dance.
Flips, spins, turns and twirls. A dance with such power and passion Fadorra had never done. Not because she felt she was putting out her best show for all of these and for the deity – she wouldn’t delude herself to think putting on a perfect show would pass her exam. It was a swell of emotions, of energy in her chest that made her movements more graceful and flowy. Before long it seemed, she was standing at the center of the hill, her dance finished as the sun began to rise on the horizon and the other Oracles were clapping.
Taking a bow, Fadorra smiled and waited for them to come and tell her what the extra credit assignment would be. Soon, the crowd had closed in somewhat and the female Meecio – Dwayna was her name – was leading the girl down the opposite side of the hill than they’d come up. She was explaining the extra credit already.
“Okay, hon, you’re already in, and we’re all quite impressed with your performance. That actually had no real magical significance, but we wanted to see if you would do it or not. Now we just wanna see just how brave you are and if you are willing to get down and dirty to get what you want.” The older female explained cheerfully, showing the Sooeteu to a small covered pen. It would be considered to be like a small, collapsible pool in our world, but it was just a strange pen thing in theirs.
Uncovering the top revealed a load of rat and cat guts and whatnot. It was a bit gross but blood and guts were a fact of life that one just had to expect. Hell, there were a few slimy toads and their guts in there – something Dorra had considered previously really freaking gross.
“Okay, the challenge here is to get in there, while still naked, and generally dig around till you find the prizes. There are at least 3 mar in prizes in there. You’re allowed to back out of it or request to do it clothed but to be able to keep the full prize, we’d like to see if you’ll do it still nude. You’ll be allowed to bathe the guts and paint off when it’s done though.”
Fadorra blinked at it a few times and finally made a decision. Reaching up, the girl removed her earrings and handed them to Dwayna. “Can you hold these for me? I don’t want to lose them in there.” And promptly climbed in and began rooting around.
There were cheers and laughter as she worked. She was eager to get to this – the exploded monster goop actually was kind of fun to play in, looking for prizes. Quite soon a blood, entrails, and slime covered Sooeteu poked her head out, triumphantly holding aloft her prizes.
Leaning forward, the male Meecio from before – Jeddediah – counted up the mar (and a simple ring) to see that the girl had found all of the things they’d hidden in there. With much applause and joy, the group headed back towards town – Fadorra quite intent on getting a huge bath before she put on her new robes and wore her earrings again. After all, her ears had to be sterile to maintain the rings.
As she walked inside to get her bath, the girl could hear, somewhere in the back of her mind, an amused voice speaking. Quite a show, kid. You are going to be an amusing one…
