Giving a sad smile, Silver walked over to stand next to Lucien, one paw resting on his shoulder. "You sure Luc? Ya don't have to if you don't want to."

Lucien looked up at Silver for a long moment with uncertainty in his red eyes before he nodded his head, "Yea." He murmured quietly, he didn't want to run away without saying his goodbyes to his friend. Who would have thought that the last time he had seen Sire would be the last time he would ever see him?

He lifted his hand up to hold onto Silver's arm tightly for support.

Holding Lucien's hand, Silver lead him up to the Bier, keeping an eye on him, but not saying anything, letting him come to his own thoughts, his own conclusions.

Lucien was silent as he stood there, starring at the Fa'e that was laying there and then tilted his head to the side, so this was it? This was death? It made no sense to him, even less now that he was seeing it with his own eyes. He would never understand the fixation that his other self had on it. Everything about death was so permanent, so frightening.

He found himself stepping closer to Silver before he even realized it, "I... can't believe it." He murmured quietly then started to chew on his lower lip but aside from that seemed to show no real emotion on the outside aside from that whirling in his eyes.

"I know lucien. I know." He just put one arm around the boy, holding him close to his side, looking down at his friend, and shaking his head, fighting back the tears, forcing himself to be strong.

Devi slowly approached from where he'd been watching in the woods. Too many "what if?"s were floating through. He knew they wouldn't help, the familar voice whispering that in his ear. Still he was young and hadn't lost aynone before. The ache was bad. He couldn't imagine what Yani must be going through.

Approaching the beir he kept his gifts held tight in his hand. So very different the face seemed, now cold with no spark of life. He knew him and yet didn't. "I hope you are happy where you are and at peace. Know that you will be missed."

He put a single black rose in Sire's hand, one of very few that ever bloomed and stayed. Then he took out the arrow. Long, straight and true. It had taken him days to craft it, paint it, feather it properly. His best work yet.

Saying a soft phrase in Greek he held the arrow over the body. In one quick motion the shaft snapped. The broken arrow was placed with Sire.

"Like this arrow you life has broken, never to be repaired. There is still beauty in the memory. You will be remembered, the imperfections forgotten and the happy memories embraced. Rest well."

Lucien closed his eyes drawing in a breath then let it out slowly, "Momma... doesn't even know where I am." He murmured after a moment looking towards Sire, he should have told her so she didn't think that he disapeared again but he hadn't even thought... He gave a shiver, it made him want to go home and cling to her and appoligize for the times he had vanished and worried her.

Smiling a little, though still sad, Silver pulled out a cellphone, handing it to Lucien to call his mother, just stroking the poor boy's hair while he made the call.

Lucien smiled his thanks to Silver and spoke quietly into the phone with Rayne, by then though she had found him missing, found the scattered mail, and the reason why he had gone so she didn't sound upset over his leaving. Upset over what had happened though as she knew Sire herself.

There were a few moments more of quiet talking and Lucien hung up and handed the phone back, "Thank you. She said she would come later to pay her respects and get me." He said then leaned against Silver and was silent, his mind racing.

Yanisin remained hidden in the back, away from everyone, eyes narrowed and face tense except for the drying tearstains on his cheeks. He heard familiar voices, but did not want to investigate. This wasn't about Yanisin, afterall. He didn't want anyone's pity.

((Went and researched a bit on Aztec funeral rituals.... Sorry about the length.))

At first he hadn't wanted to come, not having heard from Sire in a long time. Longer than he could remember, or forget apparently.

Everything about their relationship blurred together.

Part of him blamed himself, having never spoken those three words that Sire had used so freely with him. The rest just questioned if it were real, and the more he thought about it, the angrier Nathan became.

Selfish? Yes. But he felt it justified.

...At least once the guilt had been banished away in his mind.

How dare Sire confess his love to him and then commit suicide?! He didn't come to him. He didn't ask for help. ********, Sire could have fallen off the face of the Earth these past months and Nathan wouldn't have known.

Apparently falling off the Earth had happened, only news had come quickly through the Fa'e community concerning the death. And of course that meant Nao had gotten a letter.

And it wasn't the death that had brought him to the wake, but the tiny child who the letter had been addressed to.

A child that barely had known Sire.

The taste of disgust was sharp in Nathan's mouth as he was reminded of everything that had happened, and everything that hadn't. But unfortunately, he had a job to do and he couldn't abandon it.

Naolin had insisted he go, and was almost excited about the affair. He immediately became severely confused when his deep red eyes caught the looks of everyone else's sad ones.

And then he saw the body, and immediately frowned. Somehow the way they were doing this felt... Well wrong. Nao couldn't quite pinpoint it, and since everyone seemed so unhappy about this, he decided not to specifically tell whoever did this that they did it wrong.

Nathan had also caught sight of Sire's body with his eye, and he stopped walking and just stared. It was only when a tiny red hand tugged at his sleeve did Nathan remove Nao from his hip and set him down. He was unable to get any closer than he already was.

The Fa'e had dressed himself in a deep blue and orange patterned 'skirt' that wrapped around his slender form. An ornate lapis and gold necklace also adorned his neck, and almost looked heavy for the small child, but he held his head high. He felt it very celebratory considering the event.

Smiling, the child stretched out his wings before walking respectfully and cheerfully over to the other Fa'e's body.

Once near enough, Nao pushed off the ground and flew up above the body. He was too short to reach otherwise and Nathan was still statued where the Fa'e had left him.

It was then that the package in his hand was visible. Carefully, he set the dead's gift atop of the flowers that were already there. It was a bar of chocolate wrapped with two of his own feathers by a fancy, but small golden ribbon.

"Cacauatl... y yectli." He whispered while placing a small hand on the other Fa'e's chest, "Ma xipatinemi mocehuia Ichan Tonatiuh Ilhuijcan."

It was then the Fa'e seemed serious, expression and eyes changing to match the general feel of all those there. He knew things would be okay.

Closing his eyes and muttering something else, the hummingbird finally gave a quick nod and backed away from the body before landing back on the ground in front of the dead one.

Naolin was confident that everything would be alright. With death came life. Death was the only way that those alive survived. The only way that many survived. Sacrifice was noble, and the sun would take him in.

Looking around, Nao stayed quiet as his eyes caught just how lost many seemed. He didn't understand why, he was too young and his instincts told him otherwise.

Chocolate and feathers for the dead's trip to thier afterlife. An afterlife that was guarenteed to be wonderful for such a sacrifice.

Now all they could do was await the new life that would come of this. At least, that's the only sensable reason that the Fa'e could believe.

"Life and death are not worlds of opposition." The hummingbird murmered to himself as he looked back up towards Sire's body once more.

It didn't matter what other's said, he was sure that he was right. His instincts were right and Naolin simply chewed on his labret for a bit before smiling and returning to the still stand still Nathan.

Nathan had watched Nao, and was very confused as to how happy and confident the child looked. In fact, it was as if he were positively glowing.

Nao didn't notice in the least.

Anen stood back, quiet. Understanding, and not understanding. He'd seen death, he'd felt death, he'd experienced death; and yet, and yet ... Death had never come home in the form of a friend before. They could have been friends again, eventually, he thought.

Wakes were for the living, not for the dead. Anen had considered bringing the wooden knife that Sire had given him, long months ago, but it was all that remained to him now. He'd put it back in the box on his shelf and kept it. Instead, he murmured a prayer in Greek, an echo of a familiar ritual, commending a wayward soul to the gods. To whatever gods there were, now, whatever gods were listening. To whatever Sire had sought when he made his last choice.

It wasn't a choice Anen could imagine making, as a mortal or an Ancient, but it was a choice, too. In some ways, he could respect that choice, though it confused him and made him quiet with sorrow. Death instead of destiny, instead of whatever was coming. Oblivion and ending. He hoped that it had been peaceful.

The strings of possibility were very nearly visible, shimmering heavy in the air and flowing sluggish around the figures of other Fa'e. The legacy of the living, the legacy of those yet to come. Held by something inexplicable, Anen remained quietly where he was instead of turning to go. He would hold vigil a little longer.

It wasn't that much of a suprise to see the Arrikanez there. Aaron, Zael, Xander, Maverick, Damien, Erik, and little Ben. All of them were dressed in black "Prince" outfits, and Ben's hand was tightly clutching Aaron's. They'd lost Dragon - now they'd lost Sire. It was quite a blow to the family, as they'd all been fond of the Fa'e. They were quiet - which was unusual for all of them - especially for Ben. The nine-year old's eyes were wide, and he ducked a bit behind Aaron's leg, blinking back tears.

Zael was the first one to approach, his blonde hair combed back for once, and his royal garb immaculate. A black cape, black tunic-style shirt, and black leggings. He had a silver circlet around his brow, with a green gem in the front of it. He also carried with him a golden circlet holding two red gems. Without the slightest permission, he lifted Sire's limp head, and placed the circlet around the Fa'e's forehead. He bent down then, to kiss the middle of his forehead, and reached up to brush some hair back from the closed eyes.

"We will miss you, Sire. Truly a Prince to us. When you see Dragon - tell him hello for us..."

He smiled a bit, and moved his hand down to the boy's hands, clasping his own over them for a moment, and bowing his head in some silent prayer. He remained this way for a moment, then looked back up, smiling at the body, and backing away with a soft bow. He went to stand near the back of the place, watching with his teal eyes, tears in them.

Next to step forward was the prankster - the foolish one. Damien. He was far from humorous as he approached the bier, and stared down at Sire's face, raising an arm to wipe his eyes on his sleeve. He was wearing the same cape and clothes, but the circlet around his brow had no gem. He reached out, and touched his fingers to the tips of Sire's lips. He said nothing, but bowed his head, whispering something beneath his breath, before drawing back to stand with Zael and watch.

The next to approach was Erik, wearing much the same as the others. He had his eye AWAY from his left eye for a change - He was rather handsome when he did that, though it was really only for formal occasions. He wore no circlet, but carried a silver bracelet, which he slipped around Sire's limp wrist, before bending down to kiss his forehead as Zael had done, murmuring something in Juridian. He didn't cry - nor did he appear to show any emotion but.. perhaps... regret. For a lost person, or a lost relationship. But those that knew Erik well, would know that he was sobbing as hard as he could on the inside, where no one could see. He backed up slowly, and bumped into Zael eventually, who took his older brother into his arms, and hugged him tightly.

Ben stepped forward next, led by Aaron, who liftde him up to see Sire's body. The nine-year-old's eyes filled with tears, and he wrapped his arms around Sire's neck, and sobbed hard.

"Bruzzer... Bruzzer Sire.... Wake up..."

Aaron leaned forward, and whispered something softly into Ben's ear, to which the child burst into tears again, but let go of Sire's neck, curling into Aaron's embrace.

Maverick walked up to Aaron, and took Ben from him, cradling the child so that he couldn't see the body anymore, while Aaron fastened an oddly shaped necklace around the boy's throat.

"Goodbye Sire... We love you - all of you. I wish I could have been here to help you... I wish you would have let me."

He stepped back, and took Ben again, watching as Maverick and Xander both approached the body, and stood there, hand in hand, heads bowed, chanting some spell or prayer. They remained there for a few minutes. After which, they drew back, and all seven of them stood back, watching, trying to comfort the now-sobbing Aaron, and little Ben.

Out of respect Sati had waited until Sire's closest family had long since visited at his side. Clad in a plain dress of white, she carried a flower garland and laid it carefully on Sire, noticing the other items that had been placed. She pushed her palms together bowing and reciting a verse from the Bhagavad Gita;
sri-bhagavan uvaca
abhayam sattva-samsuddhir
jnana-yoga-vyavasthitih
danam damas ca yajnas ca
svadhyayas tapa arjavam

ahimsa satyam akrodhas
tyagah santir apaisunam
daya bhutesv aloluptvam
mardavam hrir acapalam

tejah ksama dhrtih saucam
adroho nati-manita
bhavanti sampadam daivim
abhijatasya bharata

She bowed again when finished, and then walked away...

Looking up at the sky, sprinkled with stars, Silver nodded. It was time to set him free. He looked around for Riven, and for Devi, motioning them both over. It was indeed time.
