Dran turned sharply at the elf's cry. The elf seemed truly terrified, breathing heavily and stuttering. Sitting crosslegged on an unoccupied bed, he turned his attention on the scene to see what would happen next.

"Then that will be your goal, your purpose in strengthening yourself. Your home was crushed and you were incapable of stopping it. Now you have been contracted to do just that; will you allow it to happen again?" Kreen asks, stepping back from the elf. "If your answer is not, then our work is not yet complete. We should acquire food, and then proceed."

Dran had seen enough combat in his life that he was not particularly moved by this story of destruction. The extreme reaction of the elf was something else again. Dran had had little contact with elves, and though he had heard of their pacifistic nature, he was somewhat disturbed to see it in person. However...
"Contracted?" Dran interjected. "What exactly is the purpose of this place, anyway? My ride was not particularly informative..."

He hung his head. Kreen's training was so difficult. If earlier was just the starting round, he was not sure if he had the strength to go on. He did not want to be weak and useless, but the exaustion was not something he enjoyed either.
Fighting within himself, he made a decision. He had to do the right thing, and that was to look past the pain and become strong enough to defend those like himself.
He stood up. "Yes, I will continue the training. I must abandon the weakness I have felt and I must become resiliant."

"Come then, Artes, for you are a stone of shale. Through the trials of fire I bring, you shall become as marble," Kreen says, stepping almost through the doorway to the outside. He briefly turns back to the newcomer. "We are the guardians of the children of Lord Valden, Lord Zeal's bonded one. So, too, shall you be, should you choose to remain among us."

Artes got up, smoothing down his clothes. He tried to think through everything he had done before in his previous session. He could still feel some burns on his skin. He would learn to remedy that in town.
He stood ready for Kreen to lead the way. He was a bit fearful, but he was certain that Kreen would do everything to not actualy injure the poor naive elf.

Dran's eyebrow twitched skyward in amazement and amusement. Guardians of Lord Valden? What on earth could possibly threaten that creature? Directing his gaze towards Kreen he continued, "I would definitely like to learn more about that, my ride here was not particularly informative. In the meantime though, I see that you are both going to train? I would like to join you, if you don't mind."

"This training exercise is for Artes himself. If you are to join us, then it will be his choice to have him train with him," Kreen says, continuing from the room and down the adjoining tunnel as he speaks. "Assuming, of course, that Lord Zeal does not choose to transport us to the village beforehand."
